Jared Walsh and Shohei Ohtani both appear on this list of six players who are primed to have a breakout season. What are we going to do with Raisel Iglesias?
Links From Around Baseball
Shohei Ohtani is good. Joc Pederson is bad. The Boston Red Sox are very bad, or else very good. Angel Hernandez apparently only got 83.2% of his calls right behind the plate Tuesday. The Nationals and Mets will make up the three games they missed by playing a game on what had been a mutual day off and playing two split doubleheaders. Here is an update on the status of the threat to Major League Baseball’s antitrust exemption.
And Now For The Injuries
James Paxton is on the ten day injured list with a left forearm strain. The injury bug also befell the Oakland Athletics as Trevor Rosenthal may need thoracic outlet surgery. The Padres do not believe Fernando Tatis Jr. will need surgery. They think he will be able to play again after his stint on the ten day injured list. Mookie Betts has back stiffness and was held out of Wednesday’s game as a result. Meanwhile Aaron Judge was held out of Wednesday’s game versus the Orioles because of general soreness to his side. I traded Jo Adell for Mike Soroka in my “If I were Perry Minasian” piece. It’s a good thing I’m not Perry Minasian.
Have they finally fixed the power in Texas or figured out how to keep western coastal central Florida ( Manatee Co ) from being under toxic water?
Meanwhile I’ll keep my mask on and wait till I get my second Moderna shot in a few weeks. I’d rather live to see my 60th birthday than not. Yes Arte good infrastructure ( good scouting & player development ) matters on a MLB team, and not just politics.
Bye!!!
Another example of why I love baseball. A long season can be boring, and you need to something to keep going…

The Jays have a very, very good team. With that said then it really will be a good test for us as the first road trip of the season to see if our late inning scoring will come through. The Blue Jays are thought to be anywhere from Wild card entrant to Division Winners so this is going to be fun to watch it looks like.
since we’re on the road we can’t be looking for that 8th inning magic. It’s easier to close them out if they only have one at-bat left and it makes me nervous knowing that Toronto has last licks. So hopefully we win all four by large margins, scoring early and late.
“surprisingly” it’s only Republicans who want to revoke the anti-trust exemption. Talk about cancel culture!
Is it not the Donkey’s who at a national level who want to impose on the state of Georgia to comply to it’s will. Let the states do what they think best and then the people of that state will resolve their own issues. But either way Major League Sports should stay out of it as there will always remain a large amount of fans feeling pressured by what they do not agree with.
you’re old enough to recall the states’ rights argument re: segregation.
I’m old enough to read what segregationist voter laws looked like. Are you honestly saying the current voter laws in several states are the same?
YAY! POLITICS!
Turd for dinner again!
Anyone see this from Norwegian Coast Guard? Happened Monday. 50 knot winds, 50’ swells, 80 miles out at sea.

Wow. Wonder what is causing it to list to one side so badly? Maybe the pumps failed. The ship looks like it is under power still.
I think a load shifted causing the problem and ended up saving the ship.
Certainly don’t wish injuries on any players, and hope for quick recoveries– especially for a guy as exciting for baseball as Tatis. That said, as an Angels fan who has had to endure all these years of our starting pitchers dropping to TJs and other ailments, you won’t see me give any sympathy to fans of the other teams who may complain about injuries. Don’t have much tolerance either for “injuries” to be excuses for why a team underperforms. The Angels (deservedly) have been criticized for the past 5 years of subpar play and no one was giving them any sympathy for losing their starting pitching to the surgical knife. Specifically I’m waiting to hear MFY fans whining about not having Judge.
That antitrust stuff is a deep dive. My gut tells me that, setting aside political grandstanding that has nothing to do with the merits of the situation, this policy is overdue for reform, if not elimination. Just doesn’t seem fair on the face of it.
If Manfred is commissioner of MLB and they lose their exemption, then Manfred may be on the hot seat and lose his job.
I’m pretty fiscally conservative and even I think MLB is a monopoly. Though so is Google. If they start busting up the MLB it will probably be part of a general anti-trust movement against a bunch of not monopoly monopolies.
Now we come to a road trip of the type that will make or break or season: games against teams considered to be at or just below our level.
The homestand was nice, but we have a lot of games against teams like Toronto, KC, the Twins, etc. and we need to win these series. Reverse can be said for Toronto and other playoff contenders.
How we fare against this tier of competition will really impact our playoff odds.
Today is the 12th anniversary of Adenhart’s start vs the A’s.
Take a trip down memory lane via the box score.

Unbelievable that was 12 years ago!
Seems like yesterday and also so far away.
I do wish Major League Sports did not become more political as we move on. The recent reaction to the people’s choices in voting rules in Georgia is up to those that live in that state, not us in California or any where else for that matter. Celebrating Hank Aaron in Colorado and not Atlanta or Milwaukee seems just not right. Well we all think different and that makes the world go around.
We all miss the boat sometimes Charles as I have always been a huge fan of Fletcher, but when he emerges from this hit slump he then moves into Hitquake and Rocks it. We will hit 88 wins this season and the “Stros may hit even more as we will still make the playoffs.
I thought we should have signed Rosenthal so how would that have worked? I did not think Ohtani would pitch very well. I thought Fowler would be worthless but there still is time, lol.
I had the faith in Walsh and that he would come through and he did. I felt since the last day of the 2020 season that JUp would return and I believe that still and he certainly has not surprised me with his great start.
Joe seems to be calling all the right moves with the messed up BP right. Bundy has a shot at CYA. Good morning to you.
That’s a lot of conclusions from 6 games! I say we don’t really know anything yet other than the team has potential. Will be very interested to see if they maintain that energy and intensity on the road.
I like to wait for 40 games before I come to something like a conclusion.
Ken Rosenthal was available? What would it have taken to get him? 😛

But the good thing is then we would be out on Heyman
Ah… the memes that keep on giving.
