Top 100 Angels #74 Peter Bourjos

The Los Angeles/California/Anaheim Angels have played almost 60 seasons of baseball. As the baseball world is suspended due to circumstances outside its control, it is time to look back at the history of this organization. There have been many talented players to put on the uniform, and we at Crashing the Pearly Gates wish to highlight the best who have ever represented the Angels. Without further ado, here we go!

#74 – Peter Bourjos

Drafted by the Angels in 2005, Peter Bourjos is a defensive CF that played from 2010-2013 for the team before getting traded away. He came back in 2019 for a 4th OF job and is now a FA in 2020. Fleet Pete‘s 4.6 Defensive BWAR is 18th all time ahead of other defensive first players Eckstein and Figgins.

2011 was his big year, his 4.9 BWAR with 3.9 coming from offense really made many to see him as the CF of the future. It was Fleet Pete that made Trout move to LF in his first seasons playing on an MLB level after all. With a 116 OPS+ and an AL leading 11 triples, he was the 9th hitter extra leadoff man speed demon that was certainly a fan favorite.

While his other seasons did not live up to that 2011, his speed is certainly something he is still fondly remembered. Defense is what he is good at and the fond memories is why he was celebrated coming back in 2019. He is just too lovable.
