A little bit of Angels news
The official Angels Twitter account is trying to remain upbeat. Meanwhile, should I stay or should I go? Hansel Robles came in at #16 on relief pitcher rankings for fantasy draft purposes.
And news from around baseball
It’s official. There will be no baseball until at least mid-May. As always, the working poor seem to be on the very brink. Amid the chaos people are attempting to help one another out. MLB and MLBPA team up to donate a million bucks to feed the hungry. The Rays are giving minor league players $800 to help with expenses. Individual players also continue doing what they can. Eric Sim. Austin Beck. Fergie Jenkins.
There shall be no scouting activity of any kind, effective immediately. A transaction freeze seems to be on the way.
Last night, Wifey and I watched Mike Trout’s MLB debut. I have the complete game on DVD, along with the pre- and post-game coverage. It was a pretty good game. Aybar hit a leadoff home run in the first, Vernone went 3-for-4 with a dinger, Conger homered, and the game concluded with a walk-off Trumbomb. Mike, batting ninth, went 0-for-3, but he did make a spectacular catch to end the eighth inning.
After the game, Trumbo did the on-field interview. He got about five words out when Conger came up behind him and plastered his face with a shaving-cream “pie.” I mean, he incorporated that shaving cream into Trumbo’s being. Interview over.
We just cancelled our baseball trip for the end of April. Bigger things to worry about, I know. But it sucks because we were planning on hitting our last 3 stadiums of the 30 (CIN, CLE, PIT). Hopefully we can still do it this year when the new schedule comes out. Whenever that is…
Well Jessica, it’s still beautiful in San Diego with plenty of outdoor places to visit. Lot’s of trails in the hills and mountains, and a ton of shoreline to walk. Grab yourself your favorite craft beer and local restaurant food to go and have a picnic ! ~ Today is another great day to be Thankful and Live ! ~
I was supposed to be in Arlington for the Halo series 2 weeks from now and in KC for the one in mid-May. I’m just waiting for MLB to get off the pot and tell us what this is going to look like when/if this season is going to be played. In Nebraska, all of the schools and bars are closed, restaurants are take-out/delivery and groups of no more than 10 folks can meet. The good news is that some people are recovering from this and being released from the National Biocontainment Unit at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Everyone be safe.

A Happy St. Patrick’s Day?
Unfortunately, I quit drinking so I wouldn’t have to go to the store.
Looks like you picked the wrong week to quit drinking.
(and smoking, and taking amphetamines, and sniffing glue)
What we Sniffing?
Anybody heard what the policy is for ticket refunds for cancelled games? I have a pair for April 25, supposed to be Shohei bobblehead night.
I don’t know yet but I have four tickets for my kids Little League day on a Sunday in April.
I’m sure they will announce it. My guess is they are waiting to see how things progress- how long of a delay. Games are not officially cancelled yet so…..
Waiting for the games to get rescheduled, and when they do, you will be able to exchange them for another ticket. To some game you don’t plan on going to.
If you want your money back, forget it, it’s their money now.
It’s an extraordinary time and by that I mean we are living in historically significant times. Our great grandchildren will read (or maybe be programmed to know) about this epidemic.
This post is a simple call to service to the young folks out there – let’s say 30 and younger. Yes, you all generally tend to do pretty well with this disease. And therefore many of you have not significantly altered your behavior. There was a Post Malone concert that attracted 10s of thousands of you on Sat. Masses of you have been going to the beach, Disneyland and Disneyworld (when they were open) traveling and going out partying and carrying on like nothing is different. Heck, no school and it’s spring break, right?!
The problem is that you all are the single largest vectors of Covid-19. Your fun is killing people.
I ask, no I plead, of you to think bigger right now. Think of society and the greater good. Think of service to others. In short, try to think of yourself as part of a community and not just an individual living in this world.
I know it’s not easy. The generational gap is wide. Millennials versus boomers etc. But all I can do is promise you that if you are part of the solution there is something big and meaningful in it for you. The joy of selfishness and of caring for others is incredibly meaningful and will help shape the rest of your life.
You are all fantastic- I love the young people of today. You are smart and switched on early and passionately to important causes such as human rights and the environment. You know technology like the back of your hand. Arguably your only weakness is you have grown up in a highly-narcissistic age (no fault of your own) where ‘me’ comes before ‘we’. Here is your chance to change that. Here is your chance to learn what it is like to sacrifice for the greater good.
Please help all of us in this global community by self-isolating and let’s flatten the curve as quickly as possible.
You may not kill yourself, but you will kill your grandma.
I saw that in a tweet a couple days ago and it has stuck with me.
Have a rec.
Thanks Mia. Be well. A few months from now this will be a memory and a year from now a distant memory. And those Trader Joe’s dried legumes will still be in the pantry. 😃
Maybe in your pantry, my frozen pizza boxes will probably be in a landfill. 😉
As a dude that no longer fits into the younger demographic (when the hell did that happen) I agree. We have to approach this as a community, which isn’t easy to do in these partisan times. To me it’s simple; if you think this is a hoax or overhyped hysteria, well, when we get through to the other side, by all means, talk shit and scream “told ya so.”
Until then, just stay away from large group gatherings, avoid licking doorknobs, and if you’re sick, STAY HOME.
And always remember LOLBAH
They’re hilarious, and since you’re working from home they won’t earn you a visit from HR.
From a logistical stand point. Wouldn’t it be easier to quarantine the elderly than the entire population?
Doesn’t work and beyond that I think you may be underestimating lots of the symptoms even in younger people. Even though they survive – many young folks have 30% or more reduction in lung capacity following the disease.
Additionally this is affecting the World economy and the job market and many other things that should be of concern to young people.
You don’t mess around with novel viruses. There is no immunity in the community and they can rapidly mutate. There is no saying that this virus couldn’t mutate and begin killing thousands of young people.
In that circumstance can you imagine old people asking if it would be easier to just quarantine young people?
This is all of our problem Dono. You are welcome to join me on the hopeful solution train or you can keep convincing yourself it’s not your problem.
No Convincing Needed. Just Not Afraid. Not Buying the Fear & Hype. Feel Free to Sling Insults if Anyone Likes.
I like the no fear. We shouldn’t be fearful. This will all pass. Fear does nothing. We should be motivated by helping our fellow man (and woman).
I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
NO FEAR!

Now, stay the f*ck inside so we can have baseball back quicker, or I may just socially distance you from this planet.
It’s only day 2 of working from home and the cabin fever is setting in…
Cabin Fever is Over-Rated !
I know, right? My house is too damned quiet to work in. I need the background noise.
Surely you must be joking.
He is serious, and stop calling him Shirley.
Yeah, I am serious. I need the background noise.
My neighbors complain about my noise, although the noise complaints are usually dwarfed by the complaints about the aroma. Can’t please everyone.
Just wash the rally thong, it’s not that complicated.
Bad Luck to wash!
Not talking about the thong… it’s other odors.
Damn skunks.
The Hamilton soundtrack seemed to do the trick for me today…
Also, a lot of people with high profile jobs really suck at using video conferencing.
The Hamilton Soundtrack sucks. I can only hear Snorting for so long.
Well done.
San Francisco is under a “shelter in place” order until April 7, which means I’m working from home until at least that day. Since many of my co-workers already work in other offices, Monday felt like any other day, except my commute was 10 feet from bedroom to home office, rather than the typical hour.
It was nice to just walk downstairs to our computer room, I will say that.
Being 10 feet from the kitchen all day may turn out to be a bad thing in the long run.
