It is my honor to bring to you the first daily links on CtPG. This is a new day, a clean slate, a fresh start. Pick your cliche.
So let’s make our start the right way, with baseball talk. We had a rule on the old site “bitch once then move on.” We’ve bitched a lot lately, now we’ve moved on.
Yesterday the Kansas City Chiefs won their first Super Bowl in 50 years and put a big smile on Angels play by play man Victor Rojas’s face.
And now we can look forward to the smell of freshly cut grass, the crack of the bat and all things baseball. Taking a look at the Cactus League master schedule, we have 19 days until the first signs of baseball and 20 until the Angels take the field. That link is great for planning a Spring Training trip.
Another great site to use is CactusLeague.com, particularly their stadium map page and trip planner feature. Those of you in the Phoenix area or planning on being there on February 19th should swing by their luncheon honoring Vin Scully, Tony Gwynn, Vida Blue and others.
Although camps start soon and players are already moving into their Spring homes, more work needs to be done, particularly in Boston. The Red Sox decision on Mookie Betts could come in the next few days. Most rumors have him going to LA or SD, but there’s a significant chance he stays put.
Unless they act this week, the Sox will start Spring Training without a manager. Candidates are interviewing, but time is short.
Fangraphs did more of their superlative work looking at a recent addition by the Mariners and Joey Gallo of the Rangers. The AL West is anything but a cakewalk.
MLB Network released their Top 10 starting pitcher list. Numbers 3 and 5 were free agents this off season, 8 was a free agent last off season, and 9 was traded away for Vinnie Pestano. Not to mention 6 who was briefly an Angel. There are a variety of reasons none are here, but it still hurts.
Also on that link is their Top 10 shortstops list, which misses on Simba of Anaheim and his dazzling glove work.
That’s it for now, add what I missed.
Can’t Wait to See MOOKIE BETTS in a DODGERS Uniform next Week. Its been a Long Off season and I am excited for the return of MLB Games. Nothing like a warm spring day at the ball park with boys!
We-eeee! Stepped through the portal offered-up in Nate’s last post at HH and landed here!
Just an ataboy note: It’s awesome how yall are building on what worked well at HH and making it better, trying things out etc. Had the “downvote” button. Ditched it. Have original comments appear white, then replies appear gray. Makes it easier than on HH for people who had trouble figuring out what they are replying to in a long thread. Now new unread comments are yellow, wasn’t that way a few hours ago. It’s really cool to watch you guys putting the site together and tinkering with what works and doesn’t work for what you want. Fine tuning the fineness. Workin it. Workin it.
Completely off topic site question:
Is there any way to mark posts that I have already read (kind of like the old site)? I’m not even asking for the “Z” function.
If you give it a thumbs up it marks the thumbs up in red. Interested to hear other strategies.
So real talk… how do you guys and girls get paid with this new outlet? Also… having no “add new reply” option at the bottom of the page is going to be a pain during GDT’s.
Enjoy the Fresh New Add Free site while you can.
Adds coming soon.
I think, for now, it’s Patreon…. same way anyone with actual thoughts from either direction gets paid on YouTube now days. That’s what that Become a Patron link is, you donate to the blog.
It seemed to be confusing some folks recently, but it’s a legit peer to peer company that pays new media folks. At least for now, I was looking at what i could find regarding it’s financial structure (cause I like to invest in things when I can) but I can’t really figure out how they plan to ever really make money and stay open.
And it’s not just about paychecks. We no longer have access to Getty images unless we pay for it. To make this blog into the only blog worth blogging, we have to deal with some overhead issues.
You have a point. What, we’ll have to scroll all the way back up to add a comment? Or have two tabs open?
In the lower right, at least on mobile, is a gray square with an up arrow that saves you from scrolling up to the top. I didn’t see one for down, though.
They have this option at the top

I just view it at newest, and you will see most of the comments being made at the top this way.
Imgur?

Thanks for the tasty linkage, Jeff. You all have really hit the ground running. It’s morning in America!
Sup fam!! Digging the new pad. Glad to see a lot of familiar names. I hope everyone makes the migration.
Bookmarks updated. I can now resume lurking and occasionally commenting. Thank you everyone who contributes to the site!

FAREWELL SBNATION
FTFY … Good riddance SBabomiNATION
Hey. More people on the new site!
Reporting for duty! Cheers to everyone involved in getting this set up.
My left index finger is so lost, since the Z doesn’t move you to the next unread comment anymore,
I definitely need to refine the technique to reading and re-reading all day, but it’s worth it to stick it to Vox
And I LOVE that the last post is “Halos Heaven In Memoriam”
I like the site name but I do foresee some confusing interactions.
“Hey… The site is crashing”
“Yes, Crashing the Pearly Gates.”
“No … The site is CRASHING”
“DIDNT you hear me? Yes… Crashing the Pearly Gates!” 🙂
What? The website is down already? OK. I’ll see everyone back at HH
Any advice on how to post .gifs?
It works if you paste url to the .gif
Just drop the url(image address) into the comment box
https://giphy.com/gifs/seinfeld-preseason-aMh59aKR8vjdC
Okay that didn’t work
https://giphy.com/gifs/seinfeld-preseason-aMh59aKR8vjdC
Probably need the image to end with .gif
That’s what it is. I just went and inspected the html on that first one Jessica did the other day.
I think you are using the “share” address, you need the direct link.
On mobile i view image in new tab, copy that address, paste, and violla.
KRAMER!
Thank you. I’ll practice
Yes!
2pints is in the house!
hmmm, wonder why my photo isn’t showing. It shows in my profile.
Good to see you but yeah no photo. My image was not large enough – no time for re-sizing yet.
Did you set it as your cover rather than your avatar? Happened to me. You gotta click on that circle in the lower left of the pic to change it.
2pints, you need go to your profile, to click on the area of where the profile picture would be (circle) then upload the photo to that space. I had the same issue.
thanks everyone, got it figured out
Did you click update?
Was hoping to see you here.
your dreams have come true! 🙂
Could you imagine a weird dream like this? Been posting at HH nearly 12 years and one day I’m suddenly somewhere else posting with all of you. Weird, man.
Super Stoked for the new site !!! Like ol’ times
yawn
What’s up halo honks.
Thanks for the links Jeff!
You’re welcome. It was pretty cool to deliver the first batch.
Please. We’re Halo HOMIES. Halo Honks are Roger Lodge fans.
Speak for yourself Red. I’m a Halo Homeskillet myself.
Speak for yourself Double D. I’m a Halo Homeslice myself.
I’m def with team Grich. Not Lodge. Thinking of this for a new handle: GitchoLodgeoffmywife
BANNED!
So we went over 100 comments on our inaugural game thread and didn’t crash the site. Looks like we’re on our way.
Completely off topic, but…
I like that tiny little Yankees icon in the Houston area in the 2nd map.
It’s an ill wind that blows no good. At least the Trasshterisks have given us something we can all agree upon!
