Honestly, there are times when I’m amazed I’ve been able to write about the Angels and the experiences that have come along with it. This opportunity is a combination of my lifelong love of telling stories, my natural curiosity, and of course my love of Angels baseball. And I’m looking forward to continuing this journey on Crashing the Pearly Gates.
I’ve always been a storyteller. As a kid, I never shut up. As an adult, well pretty much the same thing. I put my heart into my writing assignments in school, have always dreamed of one day writing a great novel, and majored in journalism when I went to college. Young me always thought I’d be a writer of some sort.
And the Angels? A lot has changed in my life since I first heard those magical words “Wally Joyner” over the radio but not my favorite baseball team. My family follows baseball and I’m sure I would have been a fan of some team, but that one name decided which. The California Angels.
Being able to combine two passions in life has been nothing short of a blessing. I’ve gotten to know Angels players and personalities. Victor Rojas, David Fletcher, Ty Buttrey, Chuck Finley and a host of prospects. The “Angels” search in my contact list gets longer each year and I’ve had face to face encounters with pretty much all of them.
In return, I think my readership has enjoyed getting to know these players and personalities a bit, too. Been able to put a little story and personality to the prospect rankings, know David and Ty before they donned Angels uniforms. My goal is to take my amazing experiences and let the readers share in them.
Some of the greatest people I’ve met along the way will share the masthead at CtPG with me. Jessica DeLine is a great site manager who I consider a friend and I’m thrilled to join this venture with her.
So I guess the answer to why I write for CtPG is quite simple. When you get the opportunity to do something you love alongside people you enjoy, you take it.
You the Man Joiner! Can not wait to see you and your family Next week @ Spring Training…..
You guys lost your heads – photo not displaying properly, at least in Safari on Mac. Noticed it in weekend links, too, so not a one time problem. Other posts are fine.
As some others have already said as well, your interviews are my favorite series and much of the love carry for Fletch and Ty probably arose from your articles.
Looking forward to seeing them again!
Logged in (finally!). I’m baaaaack and ready for the 2020 season!
Yay!
I for one are so thankful to you guys for putting this site together and don’t mind being a patron for the site as I actually spent more on the LA Times (now dropped) site just to keep up on the stadium situation. I would be checking in on HH all day long for updates (retiree’s have nothing better to do)and now I will be turning to you guys here on CTPG
Thank you for the support
Always enjoyed your writing Jeff!
Glad you are here JJ, always enjoy your stuff. Hoping the interviews were all powered by you, and you still have the access you had before.
Is that a picture of you and Lil’Davie at his number retirement ceremony? If so, how was it?
That is at the number retirement and it was fun. A decent sized crowd was in hand and Cypress baseball raised some much appreciated funds.
Can we expect the Daily Links to continue on Monday?
Yes. Will be more of a group effort going forward.
Always enjoy reading your work, Jeff. The player interviews are one of my favorites.
We’re glad to have you with us, Jeff!
Thank you Jeff!
I hope not having Halos Heaven attached to your name doesn’t stop the access you get to the team. Hope CtPG gets you the same status. I really need to know if Rendon is an In N Out guy.
Edit: I accidentally clicked “private” on this comment and then the button disappeared…
The team never set up interviews, I’ve hunted them on my own. Really, I’ve cultivated a relationship with a couple of agencies who like getting their prospects some interview experience. I’m expecting those relationships to continue and know for a fact the most notable names will stick with me.
That’s awesome!
How do you edit?
Aha… now i see. 😀
