Angels shut out by Marlins

Pitching duels are fun for some, boring for others. Depends on what you like as a fan, and how your team is constructed. For Angels fans, it is a “please go as long as you can” type of stress, with how bad this bullpen is and how inconsistent this offense has been. It being an away game makes it more scary.

Today’s was supposed to be a pitching duel between Sandy ans Urena. The Marlins’ all time innings man vs the Angels rookie who has gotten little run support. Instead, Urena went 2 and 2/3 innings giving up 4 runs on 4 hits striking out 2 and walking 3. That’s the opposite of a pitching duel performance. It’s now an ace vs a bullpen game. Yikes.

So, could the Angels offense do anything? Yeah, no. With the pitching failing, the bats couldn’t do much against an ace pitcher and by the time Sandy was done, the deficit was so enormous that it was not even funny.

But hey, at least the amount of arms used was minimulized. After Urena left, Kerry pitched the rest if the game. That leaves more for tomorrow, and the next off day is August 17th, so, health is something you need to keep in mind.

Only good thing the team did today, preserve the bullpen

Highlighted Recap

Things were going well until the 3rd, when Urena could not find the strike zone anymore and started walking guys. Bloop hits then just drove in run after run.

2-0 Marlins

After run after run…

4-0 Marlins

That’s a horrible outing as Urena was pulled before finishing 3. A bullpen game vs the Marlins’ ace, ouch. But hey 4 runs isn’t THAT bad…

And then when the Angels tried anything, the Marlins shut it down like with this diving catch in the 5th.

Dang it

It engerized the Marlins and in the bottom of the 5th that deficit grew to 5.

5-0 Marlins

And 6

6-0 Marlins

And 7…

MAKE IT STOP

Well good news the Marlins stopped scoring. Bad thing is that the Angels did not score at all. Angels lose 7-0.

Upcoming

Angels have one more in the morning vs the Marlins. And then go back home for the Rangers and Royals.

Why I was so glad they won the first game yesterday. This team was bad, now totally pathetic. And just to top it off I just got done watching Dodger game. Bring on the lockout, no reason to watch the Angels next year.

How is winning ever going to be seen as the priority on this team when the face of the franchise has made it abundantly clear he doesn’t care about winning by just accepting his fate on a losing team as long as he gets to go home to his OC mansion every night? Not requesting a trade. Not vocalizing that Arte needs to step up? I really don’t see the Angels winning anything until Trout’s contract is done.

Agreed. I harbor no anger with him. But he is a 12 year old boy happy in his big house with his buddies (kids) and collecting baseball cards. Having 1/2 billion allows him to be Peter Pan without a real care or concern. Good for him….I guess.

I think most of us would be pretty happy with that life.

Can’t blame the human being, but it is frustrating for fans in a purely sporting sense when that is the face of the franchise.

I can’t tell you how tired I am of successful people with fame and talent not saying what I want them to so me feelz get all tingly. It really sucks. I have been trying to get Dwayne Johnson to speak out against dogs in restaurants for years now.

I have to agree with you. What do want the guy to do? He is the best player to have ever played for Angels, he is also a good dude, he has been loyal to a fault. And you guys want him to complain and whine about how bad the team sucks. If he did demand a trade, you would be the first people to call him selfish, disloyal after all the years you have been cheering for him.

Give the guy a freaking break, I believe he has earned the right to do what he wants, if he wants to stay great, if he wants to leave well that’s right. We Angel fans have a lot to complain about, but Trout is not one of them.

You should be ashamed to call yourself fans.

I tried to watch Salt Lake after the Trash Pandas game.. They play fundamental baseball WORSE than Angels. After 2 innings I had to turn it off before I slit my throat.

This is the third time I have tried to watch 25-35 year old players that look like they have never played the game.

The Angels for the longest time drafted more athletes than baseball players with slightly lesser athletic ability. Hopefully that has started to change. Willits for sure is a baseball player.

Almost none of those players are in Salt Lake.

Seems like every year the Marlins come up with some legit players, no easy out. Management holds them back.

Pandas down 4-0 in the 3rd pitcher warming up in the pen. Sound familiar?

Also pitcher warming up throwing a mini soccer ball. I remember a football a times, but a soccer ball? World cup really having an affect.

Was urena pulled early because he threw alot of pitches?

No, he just hit a spot where he couldn’t find the strike zone.

Rocket City game on ABTV. Bremner pitching

early thoughts:
— works the FB up effectively with excellent vertical break
— trouble throwing strikes
— slider needs a lot of work on its shape

I am not impressed

Got thru the 1st after 30 pitches giving up 2 ER. Flores bailed him out with a strike em out em throw out to end the inning. The bullpen was getting up, hopefully Bremner got the nerves out and pitches better

Would have been nice to select him at #2. Thought he was the obvious choice.

Does Bremmer have a high ceiling? More MLB ready than others in his class?

I’m trying to squint for any reasoning for Perry to take someone ranked in the mid range over 2 pitching prospects universally ranked higher than him and in the top 5 range and the only thing I have come up with is that he was selected 2nd because Perry is an idiot.

Your last thought is most likely. Kade was in the same ballpark as MLB ready i believe

Bremner’s FB + CH look MLB ready, they play off the same plane with the FB rising up and change diving down. His slider/cutter doesn’t break down or glove side enough for my liking.

He needs to work on his command too

He’s going to put up .7 WAR over 7 years with the Angels. Go to the Blue Jays who will just say throw your changeup more often, it’s your best pitch and he’ll be great for the next 3 years.

14 pitch 2nd inning — gave up a HR on a hanging slider, strikeout on a beautiful change-up, 2 fly outs.

With such a fluid pitching motion I’m surprised he struggles as much as he does with his command

Bumner?

I do hope this kid turns out to be worth the pick. I remember he was doing pretty well to start and keeping up with Kade and Seth.

yea this is probably Perry’s parting gift. Completely blowing a 2nd overall pick. Bremner might wind up being a decent back end starter but he’s going to have to make a heck of a lot of progress to be anywhere close to someone you’d want with the #2 overall pick.

I wonder who Tim McIlvaine was favoring. Probably was not concerned about drafting an under slot section and primarily was just looking talent level.

Mozeliak drafted Liam Doyle over Seth Hernandez. Mmmmm.

Sure would be nice to get the L tomorrow and put us on pace for the 100 losses. Yes, we should be able to do it with a depleted pitching staff – but if we can keep losing series – we’ll get there for sure.
