What MONTH is it? The last time the Angels won 3 in a row was early June, when they won 4 in a row. And the last time they SWEPT a team was in late May vs the Rangers. Yes, the Angels aren’t good, but if you look at the metrics, they are a bottom 10 team, not a bottom 5 team, and yet the Angels were the last team to win 40 games this season. Maybe luck is on the Angels side, just as the trade deadline nears so that the FO can get screwed over.
Yeah, that tracks. We have seen this happen before, most recently when the Angels caught fire in late July and then traded for Lucas Giolito and Rey-Lo in 2023. They proceeded to suck IMMEDITALY AFTEER THIS. Maybe if the Angels do win 10 in a row, the new GM is smart enough to SELL and not BUY at the deadline.
One of those rumored to be on the trade block is Reid Detmers. He went 5 and 1/3 innings, giving up 1 run on 2 hits, striking out 6 and walking 2. In line for the loss, he really was screwed over by bad hitting yet again.
Highlighted Recap
It was a pitching duel, so it was all defense and pitching for the first 5 innings. Like this one from Oswald in the first.
And this one by Nolan in the 4th.
St. Louis also did the defense, like this railing catch in the 4th.
GIDP happened by both teams, what was better? Grissom?
Or Burleson?
Sadly, someone had to score, and it was the cards on a solo shot in the 6th.
Angels out hit the Cards, but were un-clutch. It was yet another showcasing of a team that scores 2 runs or less needing the pitching to be perfect to win. Angels lose, snapping their fledgling win streak and are now 41-62 with the trade deadline looming.
Upcoming
No game tomorrow, at the Giants for the weekend.
