The AL West is terrible. Horrible. No good. Even the A’s are only at .500, and that may not last long given their schedule. So the fact that the Angels are only 7 and a half back doesn’t mean the team has a shot. It means this is the bad division, and that whoever is the least bad in the upcoming months will somehow host a playoff series.
Well, that just means the little bit of hope the most delusional Angels fans have has some backing. And the offense have given that some legitimacy, scoring lots of runs on back to back games. Yeah, I know, that seems wrong, illegal. But that means nothing if the pitching also blows up.
Jack of the K had himself a good night. He went 6 innings, giving up 3 runs on 3 hits, striking out 7 and walking 4. A Poor Quality start, but one nonetheless, especially as he cruised in his last 4 innings.
Highlighted Recap
A’s scored first on a 2 run single in the first
But the the Angels scored in the first inning as well for the first time in weeks!
The 2nd saw an error drive in a run for the A’s
But then Adell tied the game up right away
And then, Josh Lowe, the most hated player on this site (maybe) hit his 5th home run of the season.
From then on out, it was a pitching duel, barely any baserunners, and the ones that got on did not last.
That is, until the Angels bullpen arrived in the 7th. Zeff put 2 runners on and Bachman had to come in to get the last 2 outs. He did, at the cost of 1 run.
Bachman pitched a clean 8th, and Kirby Yates came in to save it. The Angels have the least saves in baseball, and the most blown saves, so this was pretty dicey with a 1 run lead.
So of course he allows a leadoff home run.
Brand new ballgame. Angels do nothing in the 9th.
So of course the Angels blow it in extras. But not just any Angel. No, Mike Trout has to be too passive and just… WHAT THE HELL MAN?!
Oh look, with 2 outs in the 10th, man on 3rd, it comes down to Mike Trout. Nevermind, IBB. With 2 on, 2 out, down by 1, it is up to Nolan. Yeah, Mike can’t make up for his blunder now. And he walks. So, Bases loaded, 2 outs, down by 1 in the 10th, Soler came up to bat. He grounded out.
Angels lose.
