Angels Outslug A’s in Home Run Derby 10-5

Sacramento is the capital of California. It is supposed to be the most important city in this state. And maybe it was 150 years ago. But these days the only time I hear them is when there is political news/ads, or if the Sacramento Kings are playing.

We will hear them a lot these next few years though due to the A’s being stuck there. Even if they don’t even use Sacramento offically, the Angels broadcast, social media, and people with eyes know it is Sacramento. And whenever you feel bad as an Angels fan, you can always say “at least I’m not an A’s fan” and feel better.

Anyway, Jack Kochanowicz was the starter today. Would he sack SAC or be sacked by SAC? He went 4+ innings giving up 4 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits striking out 6 and walking 5. That’s… Not good. Very inneficent. Lots of walks. Left with the lead, but no win for him today. Oh and a runner on base. Yes it was a walk.

Wow that’s wild

The bats did their job though. Lots of home runs. And the A’s hit theirs as well. Jeez that’s a lot of home runs this game. Like it is a home run derby or something.

Highlighted Recap

After Jack escaped a bases loaded jam in the first,

Seriously, he walked 3 BATTERS

Logan thanked him by hitting a 2 run BOMB out past everything in left!

2-0 Angels

Too bad that Anderson made an error at 2b and that Jack hung a pitch that got crushed in the 2nd.

3-2 A’s

Not to fear, Neto is here, and he hit a 2 run jack in the 3rd!

4-2 Angels

Logan decided we need insurance and added one in the 4th.

5-3 Angels

Oh and Jo Adell wanted to hit one too.

6-3 Angels

Jack went out for the 5th. And gave up another home run.

6-4 Angels

At least the bullpen was in now. OH NO. THE BULLPEN IS IN NOW! Annnnnnnnd Ian Anderson gave up a home run in the 7th.

6-5 Angels

In the 8th, the Angels scored the first run of the game not on a home run with a Soler double after a Ward Triple!

7-5 Angels

The Angels loaded the bases and almost did a NOBLETIGER (No-Outs Bases-Loaded Ending with Team Incapable of Getting Easy Run) but got a run due to a wild, WILD pitch.

8-5 Angels

9th inning time and need for some insurance. Ward was having himself a day and singled in a run for his 3rd hit of the game.

9-5 Angels

Soler said “let’s hang 10” and drove in Ward as well.

10-5 Angels

No Jansen today. So who gets the ninth tonight? Brogdon. I don’t even know who that is. Anyway Angels win their 6th in a row. And I’m so happy right now.

Upcoming

One more in Sacramento tomorrow for a day game. And then back home for the Marlins. Yet another franchise that is in a worse spot than the Angels. Be thankful for that.

Great game write up as always and the links are so helpful. One correction for the history books, it was Shaun Anderson, not Ian Anderson on the mound for the Angels.

It’s a minor league park and I have no idea how impressive some HRs are there. Yesterday Moncada’s HR disappeared into the trees in right, and I thought, was that 450 feet? Naw: “only” 439 feet. I’ve seen a few land on the top of that…building? in left. What is that? A storage facility?

Logan-Os first one looked insane to me, but I didn’t trust my judgement. Off the bat and seeing it land it reminded me of the 467 footer he hit to dead center in San Francisco… last year, still in Top 4 for longest homers at Oracle Park.

Logan-O’s first one today in Sacramento was 470. My gawd. His second one fooled the A’s broadcasters, who said “This one may have gone even further”…but it was only a 430 foot blast. Two swings of the bat: 900 feet total Not bad.

I hate their owner for moving them out of Oakland, even though that stadium is the pits. Their fans didn’t deserve that. (Except the drum circle idiots.)

Was there much talk on Rengifo getting pulled right after being picked off?

we appear to be 3 games out of the wild card spots, 3 1/2 out of the 1st wild card

Worst Case: Angels streak here will convince the front office the team can still complete and enforce the need to hold onto trade assets #DeadCatBounce

Worster case: (I agree with you but joking…a little) Angels streak will convince the front office that all we need is Sandy Alcantara so we trade Seth Hernandez and “Lugo”. Maybe not Lugo, maybe somebody else who looks even better in July.

Three games out, but with a slew of teams in front of us.

Production up & down the lineup.

Neto, O’Hoppe, Ward, Soler and even Adell.

It’s particularly awesome to see our young core (Neto/O’Hoppe) leading this on a consistent basis.

Any idea how many years it’s been since we’ve won 6 in a row? I feel like this hasn’t happened recently.

Apparently we won 6 straight last season, but haven’t won 7 straight since the 1970s, but who knows if AI is accurate here.

I always hated the A’s. They always seemed to pull out lucky, late inning wins against us in Oakland. Especially before we switched to the red jerseys.

Nice to give them a good spanking, even if they are not in Oakland any more.

Me too! Their crappy trailer park latrine of a stadium with the wannabe John Bonham playing drums. Then they always seemed to troublesome to beat.

I’ve said before that the last game I went to with my Dad was in Oakland. Must have been 1988 or 1989. The first game we went to together was in Ebbetts Field. I was *that baby* that you see Dads protecting at the park…anyway, don’t remember it but I do remember the last one. The A’s beat the Angels on a walk off HR so, because it was the last game we took in together, I hold a grudge. I love the memory of being at the ballpark with my Dad but a better memory would have been a win.

I think it’s awesome that you two shared a love for the game. My time with my adult kids grow more dear to me as the years pass.

What a week! So much fun right now.

Sacramento is a pretty decent place, by the way. Downtown is meh, but Old Town is fun and Midtown is really cool.
