LA Angels Wednesday News Crash: LDS Later Day Series

Morning Angels fans, have links.

Angels News

Kikuchi gave Adell chopsticks made of broken bats. That’s creative.

And yes, that is it for Angels news, the team sucks and it is the postseason right now.

Around Baseball

The ALDS’s are at 2-1 while the NLDS’s are at 2-0 going into today. Jays, Mariners, Brewers, and Dodgers need one more win to move on, while the Yankees, Tigers, Cubs, and Phillies need a comeback.

One of those 8 teams is the MFY, and Judge kept their season alive by hitting his 6th HR in an elimination game, tied with Ortiz with the most all time. Always those two teams…

Seriously though, the Blue Jays bullpen blew it. 8 runs.

And the Mariners took a 2-1 lead thanks to a catcher hitting a home run to a fan who was wearing his shirt of the home run count he had. Spooky.

Fans running onto the field, yay or nay? And if yay, why?

Zero reason for fans to run onto the field at an MLB game.

I love the tradition in college football but predict it ends soon. Some idiots will attack an opposing player and people will realize the massive security hazard this tradition brings and it will end.

My take on people running on the field: When it happens, they get warned that rough procedures will be used if they don’t comply quickly. Then, have the former middle linebacker three point tackle him and drag off his carcass….or deploy a taser.

Here’s a fun game. It isn’t gonna happen, but I would loaf it if the Angels moved their High A and Triple A teams from East Washington and SLC. Both are such goofy places to play that we barely use them to develop what passes for top prospects in our system.

We are moving A Ball back to Rancho Coockaracha. That’s cool. But where could we move those two teams? This may even become an issue soonish for the SLC team since their owner is bidding on an MLB team. He just built a new Bees stadium. It is set up so they can expand it to fit an MLB team if they get one and, in a crazy cool move, the SLC MLB team and the SLC Bees would actually share the stadium with different club houses and offices. The SLC team’s AAA team will be RIGHT THERE. So the Angels would have to move.

Now you can’t just decide Ventura is nice and plop a team down there. It has to be part of a league (Cal League is A Ball and we have that covered.) So you’d need to look at where A+ Ball teams/leagues are located. Where perhaps past teams have played and facilities may be built/upgraded easily. Partnerships with a local ownership group or a large group like Diamond Sports would be needed for that. Same with AAA. So the pickings are slim, especially if you are trying to avoid high altitude places like Colorado Springs.

AAA options in California would work for the Pacific Coast League. Maybe an ambitious up and coming town in Texas? Or we could look to Mexico? I doubt we can move far enough east to have an Intl League team.

Where do you think we could either put a team, start a team realistically, or upgrade a Cal League facility to AAA? I have some ideas, but since the pickings are slim I’ll leave em unsaid and see what folks come up with first.

But when I think of getting a “real” GMofPOBOandEIEIO baseball manz into the front office one of the first things I’d hate about our development pipeline is the fact that two stops on it are bull’s tits useless. I know that they have actually started to put some work into the stadium in Pasco so that it’s less of a death trap for hitters. But still, I’d find us an upgrade. The question is how?

The Riverside Red Wave’s former facility is probably available (Worst infield ever back in the day).

Agreed and it isn’t that difficult in my eyes.

Bakersfield has 500k residents, plenty of oil and big ag companies to buy season tickets, and lots of land near the Cal State University campus.

Yes, the temperatures can suck but Fresno hosted AAA games for years and drew well. Bakersfield sits at 400 feet above sea level, has an airport, and is about a 2-4 hour drive from the Big A depending on traffic.

Portland, Oregon has a much better climate, a much larger airport, and no baseball whatsoever. And despite what certain “news” outlets report is not burning to the ground. I’ve closed two residential and one commercial deal there this summer and it is doing fine.

Moving would be extremely difficult. There are so many steps and factors that would make it so very difficult to move a team like the Bees

agreed. I’m just saying there are logical places available.

without building a new facility, it would be nearly impossible to move

Fans running on the field? No. Act like you won something before. If you need to riot, I’ve heard Antifa is looking for recruits.

As for Angels GM/POBO: it doesn’t matter one iota for all the reasons discussed ad nauseam over the last 14 years.

As for our next manager: it also doesn’t matter as long as the guy doing the hiring is Perry on a one year contract.

Antifa? You mean the guys who go out and counter white supremacist rallies? The ones opposing fascism? Weird, yet revealing, reference.

Prescription for the offseason: Arte can’t quit the Halos but he finally wises up that he’s not a great baseball mind and he wants someone who is to determine how to best spend his $$$ (far-fetched, I know). He decides the best course of action is to hire a President of Baseball Ops, a POBO if you will, to layer Minasian on his contract year and finally put the organization on a path to long-term sustainable success. In this hypothetical world, the POBO has full grip on the wheel, Arte’s out of the cockpit, setting a budget and letting thE baseball ops team spend it as they will. Who would your dream hire be for this role? Chaim Bloom and Farhan Zaidi some recent POBOs out of a job. And what course would you have him chart for the team? Quick rebuild around current core to win before Trout’s contract is up? Take it down to the studs for a long-term overhaul? Or?

gitchogritchoffmypettis

I’d be fine with Chaim Bloom, but he is the Cardinals POBO. Zaidi is a putz. I’d try to steal some guy we’ve never heard of from the Rays or Brewers. Or I’d try to get Falvy from the Twins. It still wouldn’t be the magic we think it is since ownership still is fairly involved with all of the teams decisions. In some cases, like Houston and Boston, having very involved ownership even works well.

But going the the CtPG POBO fantasy, yep, raid a lower payroll team that does things the way we wish we did things and let the new guy run as much as possible, but with more money. Like the Doyers and Mets have done.

Of course, we did that with Perry and the Braves. Not awesome. But this new guy will be called a POBO. That will change everything. Can’t wait.

Agreed. Intention with this fantasy is that POBO title changes everything 😂

Without Arte giving up his and his loyal minions’ total control of the team, nothing will happen. If ten years of mediocre results haven’t persuaded him that he really doesn’t have the necessary expertise, nothing will.

What’s crazy is how much money he’s spent in those ten years on these results though! You’d think if he doesn’t care about mediocrity, he’d want to arrive there in the least expensive manner possible.

I don’t miss watching the Angels but the TBS playoff games aren’t available to me without another overpriced subscription. MLB.TV not including playoff games in their package is very typical to who they are.

last year I reduced my Spectrum package to a handful of channels to save a little money. I dropped TBS and TNT without thinking of the playoffs.

Fortunately, I kept the sports bundle and found the games in Spanish. See if you perhaps have ESPN Deportes or Fox Sports Espanol in your current subscription.

I found them by accident looking for boxing. The Spanish stations have great boxing.

Salt River Rafters kicked off with a win in the AFL yesterday.

Juan Flores homered and Raudi went 2-2 with 2 walks.

MOARRRR KIIIIDZ! Man I enjoy the kids so much more than the MLB team, and that’s with most of our kids kinda sucking. If we ever have a good system….. man that’d be fun!

3 of the 4 teams with the best records that sat out the 1st round are going to be in. Only the Phillies won’t make after being knocked off by the Dodgers who have won wall 4 of their postseason games. The 4 teams that only need one more win have all been hot lately, I wouldn’t want to pick who wins either league championship series.

DAMM I’M GOOD!!!
The reason why the Dodgers are about to sweep the Phillies is because of bullpen management and the fact that field managers don’t matter as much as they used to (they still matter a lot to 65% of this community…LOL!!!). Many people on this blog mocked Dave Roberts as a organizational tool 2yrs ago as being lousy with bull management after losing to the D-Backs.
The Dodgers are shunning their relievers and using their starters like Tyler Glassnow in relief. Field managers are like Captains in the military and Sergeants in law enforcement they just execute orders from above. This is top down organizational (that means good competent baseball people not OLD RICH GUYS or Perry) management at it’s best and Bruce Bochy or Mike Scioscia need not apply or others like them.
BYE BYE!!!

All you gotta do is ignore that shiny new ring Bochy has and you’re sort of right. Though I generally agree. The “best” managers seem to have players that do their jobs well reliably and when they don’t the super smart manager plugs in a different player who…. does his job! Wow. Genius.
