The Royals showed out on small ball execution and an Angels miscue to grab control early, while Los Angeles’ offense couldn’t find a rhythm.
Kansas City scratched across their first run in the third when Michael Massey singled and later scored on Mike Yastrzemski’s sacrifice fly. An inning later, Kyle Isbel’s bunt and a throwing error by José Peraza brought home two more. This stretched the Royals’ edge.
The Angels finally broke through in the sixth inning after being silenced for the first five frames. Zach Neto drew a walk to set the table and Yoán Moncada kept the rally alive with an infield single. That’s when Jo Adell delivered a towering 418 foot shot to center, a three-run homer that flipped the score and gave the Halos a 3-2 lead.
Frazier then doubled to right, Tolbert scored to tie it up. 3-3. When it looked like it could be anyone’s game, Adell reached on an infield single to shortstop and Moncada scored.
Kansas couldn’t respond in time and Angels pulled through with this thriller. 4-3 Angels.
Jo Adell is coming up clutch and its winning games and he is building confidence that he belongs. 100 RBI season is in his sights. We are all excited to see him come around. Go Jo!
Watched the 66ers game tonight (the Cal League regular season wraps up Sunday).
Once again, Ubaldo Soto was cruising. 10 up, 10 down before a high chopper surrendered his first single.
Most of the attention has been on TGA and Dylan Jordan, but Soto is the unheralded member of the trio coming up from the ACL. Only got in trouble in the fifth inning, surrendering a solo HR and a single to Ryan Wideman where his defense let him down a bit.
Three effective pitches. Getting guys to swing through his 96 mph FB high and low, while landing his curve with 19″ of vertical break. Located a few changeups that had the hitters off-time and fouling them off. He’s also athletic AF, fielding a high chopper and firing a laser to first base to catch a speedy runner down the line.
Of 67 pitches through five, 51 were strikes. He has more command right now than Jordan or TGA, and I think every bit the ceiling of the latter.
Mmmmm…. all these boys, plus guys from this past draft, are a far cry from Davis Daniel level pitching prospects we are used to. The semi-distant future is brighter. We may finish .500 in 2028 by winning 70 games 2-0 since we will likely still just have Trout as our offensive “weapon”.
Dana looked pretty solid. Jo Adel is looking like he may have the clutch gene. Bullpen still doesn’t suck. Trout’s herpes should clear up soon. Back to meh baby!
Nice team win outside of Stephenson.
Who?
You mean the person who got the dub?!
Yes. The guy who blew the dub for the starter.
Spoiling the Royals chances at a wild card playoff entry.
I know. This is the only bummer. I want the Royals to catch the Yankees so bad…. just gonna have to win a lot starting this weekend.
Also Chafin’s battle with Pasquantino was epic and Detmers was dominant.
Yorke, your recap of the 2 runs scored in the 3rd inning is inaccurate.
I love every minute of Jo Adell being a good player. Man it’s so awesome.
Jo Adell 4, Royals 3
Encouraging start for Dana as well.
JOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Yorke, I like your recaps best when they’re after a win!
Go Jo! Dana! Detmers!
