Kikuchi Gem = Angels Win Postgame

Yusei Kikuchi was on top of his game tonight. Even with some defensive miscues behind him, he delivered 7 strong innings of 1 run ball.

The answer to the question on the bottom was “not much.”

Yoan Moncada hit a laser to dead center to match the lone run surrendered by Kikuchi.

And then Mr. Clutch, Luis Rengifo came through with a game winning single in the bottom of the 8th. It was too late for Kikuchi to get the win, but it gave the Angels the win and that’s all that matters.

Light up the Halo! Enjoy an off day tomorrow before a weekend series against the Cubs.

I was at the game today (as was Jeff). Most likely the last game for me this year. Glad it was a win.

I was also at the game today, wearing the CtPG shirts. The fact that it was a win made it more enjoyable for our group, but for most of the game it felt like things weren’t going well for the home team — until they were.

Super impressed with 11th rounder from this year Alton Davis II. Worked 94-95 MPH tonight. The ball explodes out of his hand.

He also dropped in a few nasty sliders(video below). He might be one of those “quick movers” if he can repeat what we saw tonight.

First pitcher to make debut from draft? I think so.

Trout 2-4. Not really driving the ball but, he is pumping the OBP Stock.

If Rengifo’s going to bat 2nd, I’d maybe prefer Trout actually.

Trout looked a bit more like himself these past 2 games (2 hits in each). Here’s hoping that translates to homers in the Cubs series.
Very happy to see that Trout is now consistently in the lineup, rarely taking a day off.

When, and I said when, Trout hits a rhythm, he’ll go on a little tear.

People somehow forget that Rengifo was never supposed to be a starter. He was always best suited as multi-position super sub. The problem is not Heef, it’s that so many other players haven’t panned out.

Anyway, The Kuch is good pitcher. Our most consistent to he sure.

Kikuchi has been a very good signing. And one of the few free agents to actually perform for the Halos in recent years. He was mahhhhhvelous tonight. Maybe he will help Arte to see that investment of $$ into pitching is a good investment.

6 1/2 out of WC 3. 35 games left. I’d like to see us 5 out on September 1st so we could have the illusion of contending

Just depends on your expectations. They have far exceeded mine this season so I feel pretty happy.

I feel pretty happy.

….almost.

They reliably “mail it in” when September rolls around. If they play out the season, and not take the Tank for a spin, I give them a big thumbs up.

Damn. I just boarded the Heefo hate wagon and was rewarded with a Heefo game-winning RBI.

A serving of crow for everyone on the train!
