Baseball wasn’t always a part of my life, until I saw Shohei Ohtani. Yes, he plays for the Dodgers now, but watching him dominate on the the mound and in the batter’s box as an Angel was unbelievable. But, what stood out most was that he looked like me. As a Korean American, we weren’t completely similar, but seeing someone who shared similar traits to me break barriers on the biggest stage made the game feel personal. It gave me a reason to care and love for the game.
My father also played baseball back in high school and grew up watching the Oakland A’s. His love for the game may have fizzled out, but it was always there deep down. It wasn’t until Ohtani came onto the scene that I truly connected with it too. Baseball became something we could share.
Writing for Crashing the Pearly Gates gives me a chance to explore this new passion further and grow in a community that shares the same passion. I’m excited to contribute and tell the stories behind the scores!
Glad to have you here and appreciate your work 🤘
Welcome aboard!!!!
My first favorite player was Stan Musial because he was a lefty, like me! So I surely understand how Ohtani’s Asian heritage affects you. Welcome! So far you’re off to a great start
Thanks for the good work, Yorke!
Welcome to the ‘pool
Love it!
Welcome Yorke,
YORKE! HUZZAAAHHHHH! Good to have you.
Welcome!
so how do you say your name – silent E?
Yes, silent E.
Korean baseball is legit one of the best events I’ve ever been to while stationed there the last time. Wish it could be like that here (but still not a fan of banana ball). Either way, welcome aboard.
Welcome aboard! Someday, I hope to watch some Korean baseball live in person some day. I’ve been to six stadiums in Japan and absolutely wonderful fan experience. Korean baseball is absolutely on the bucket list.
Welcome aboard, Yorke.
To let you folks know, Yorke is from the same internship program that brought us Nolan last year. He’s jumping in ahead of schedule and has already done a couple of postgames.
I love your write ups. Well done.
