Kyle Hendricks was masterful in New York tonight. He pumped his high 80s heater past the Bronx Bombers and mixed in his changeup to perfection. On the night he pitched like a crafty veteran and put up 6 shutout innings including 9 strikeouts. He only walked one hitter and allowed a measly 4 hits.
When your starter gives up 0 runs, the offense doesn’t need to do a ton. It did enough to stake Hendricks to a 3-0 lead when he left then added a 4th run in the top of the 7th.
Luis Rengifo continues to increase his trade value (which was zero a couple of weeks ago). He singled in Logan O’Hoppe to drive in the game’s first run in the top of the 2nd inning.
Taylor Ward is also increasing his trade value. He punched in two more runs the following inning.
Nolan Schanuel then drove in Rengifo in the top of the 7th to extend the lead to 4-0.
The team held on for the win with Ryan Zeferjahn and Reid Detmers pitching clean innings and Hunter Strickland closing it out. That’s two nights in a row for Hunter.
4-0 shutout victory in NY! That makes 20 consecutive scoreless innings by Angels pitchers.
Two up, two down in NY. Let’s hope for a series win tomorrow.
