Angels Beat Bahstun Postgame!

Zach Neto is a stud and he proved so once again tonight. First there was this great throw to cut down a runner at home.

While Neto is a key piece to the young core, perhaps THE key piece to the young core, he is not alone. After both saving a run in the bottom of the second and punching in the first run of the game in the top of the third, Neto got some help from another youngster who is showing some studly attributes of his own.

I absolutely love that style of hitting. That’s some Rod Carew, Tony Gwynn, just go with the pitch and put it in play kind of stuff. And it netted two runs to push the Angels lead to 3-0.

Boston threatened in the bottom of the third. They had the bases loaded and a run on the board with only 1 out. But a big K by Kikuchi and a grounder ended the threat.

This was not a good night for Kikuchi. He issued 5 walks in 5 innings of work and had traffic all night. Ultimately a leadoff walk in the 6th was followed by a home run and Kikuchi left with the score tied at 3. Walks are a disturbing trend for the Japanese hurler this season and the reason seems really odd to me.

Brock Burke then Connor Brogdon kept the Sox off the board in the 6th and 7th innings respectively. That’s now 7 consecutive scoreless appearances for Brogdon who is throwing some pretty wicked stuff right now.

Hector Neris entered in the 8th inning and promptly gave up a single but put up yet another zero.

Boston countered with domestic abuser Aroldis Chapman in the top of the 9th. He mowed through Adell and Taylor then struck out Neto to wrap up a 1-2-3 inning.

Kenley Jansen pitched the bottom of the 9th, hoping to get the game to extras. It wasn’t easy, but he did his job.

Neto started the top of the 10th as the runner on second base. Schanuel attempted to bunt him over to third but an error led to him reaching safely. Trout then walked to load the bases with no out. Taylor Ward was spotted a 3-0 count and really had a chance to break the game open. Instead he swung at ball 4 and grounded into a double play. Neto scored to push the score to 4-3. Jorge Soler came up with 2 outs and Trout on 3rd and flew out.

Reid Detmers came in to protect the 1 run lead in the bottom of the 10th and looked great. He punched out 2 then got the red hot Rafaela to fly out.

Angels Win! Suck it chowds! Let’s get the sweep tomorrow!

BTW, Taylor turned a stellar DP on that short hop feeder.

The Halos even had less Ks than the RedSux.

Series win!!!

Detmers channeling Nolan in having a no-no and a save. If his calling is to be some super-reliever instead of starting ace, so be it.

Shoutout to the BP – against a tough Boston lineup: 9.2 IP, 1 run. Whew!

Schanny the last 15 games – .426 OBP. Even if he can’t slug, who cares as long as he’s not an out an can keep the offense moving.

Oh, and welcome back Trouty!

You mean, the Halos developed a really good pitcher?

Nice game today.
Here’s hoping Trout is not given a rest in the day game today.

It’s Shuffle Bot Eve. All is calm, all is bright.

Too bad the road trip ends tomorrow. Back to disappointing, losing baseball games at home.

Yeah, the prospect of a home series against Seattle is pretty scary. In recent history they have handled us easily in those Anaheim games.

Trout was only 1-4 with 0 RBI. Move him back to the 5-hole. Haha

That relay between Adell & Neto was awesome.

I thought that Ward DP in the 10th would sink us but, alas, the BP was good enough tonight.

A win tomorrow gives us a sweep of the hated Red Sox and a Shuffle-Bot appearance. Make it happen.

“alas”???? That usually means something to regret. You’re sad the BP was good enough last night?

These 1 run wins are the type of games playoff bound teams win.

The Angels are now 10-4 in one run games. That is pretty darn good, and something important. More important than run differential is record in one run games. Kenley is a big reason we have that record.

our run differential is distorted by 14-1 losses

Yes, this is part of the point. In those blow-out losses many of the runs scored by the winner come late against cannon fodder in the bullpen. Those good ole meaningless runs/stats in already decided games…

And now we have a better record than the Red Sox!

How did that happen? This team totally exceeds my expectations. 👏

I love the cheap runs we got early. I hate the way we hit in the 20th. Great and crappy.

The 10th should have minimum been a 3 run inning for us.

I appreciated Taylor’s defense tonight.

Yes, despite his offensive struggles he has been solid defensively, both in the outfield and the infield tonight.

And he did hit one ball real well that was caught on the track in RCF. I predict a double is coming from him very soon !

The more I think about the win, the better I feel about it. It feels like progress, albeit unsteady.

If we gets pieces for Kenley at the deadline, maybe it’s Detmers who takes over.

28-32 is 4 games better than I thought they’d be. I expected 24-36 so this is very encouraging.

Detmers with some confidence might be a winning combo. Also I just realized in that last inning there’s been no Bregman. Very nice to not see that stupid smug face and the fact he owns this team. Great win!
