Angels Defeat Guardians Somehow

Today Jose Soriano went up against the Guardians led by Luis L. Ortiz. Now for the video you’ve all been waiting for. Ta da! The Angels bullpen availability:

I wonder how come Kenley Jansen hasn’t thrown a pitch lately.

Anyway, this was the fielding alignment.

The Angels went three up three down in the first, but there were no strikeouts at least. Steven Kwan singled on a grounder to Kingery at second to lead off the bottom of the first. Angel Martinez grounded into a double play. That was nice of him. Jose Ramirez grounded out to first. No score after one.

In the second, Jorge Soler had a nice long at bat and ended up walking. Mike Trout lined out to third base. Logan O’Hoppe singled on the ground to left field. Jo Adell came through with an RBI line single to right. 1-0 Angels.

Scott Kingery grounded to third for a double play to end the inning. The Guardians half of the second inning was quite a bit like the Guardians half of the first inning. Still 1-0 Angels.

For the third inning, Schanuel and Ward both singled to put men at first and third with two outs for Jorge Soler. Luis L. Ortiz chipped in a throwing error to help ward make it to third. Soler grounded out to third. For the Guardians, Bo Naylor got a walk but three other guys were out to end the inning without further scoring.

The fourth and fifth innings were scoreless. Mike Trout did get a hit.

Zach Neto got caught stealing. I hope he didn’t tweak his shoulder.

The sixth inning was underwhelming. Still 1-0 Angels. Scott Kingery doubled to lead off the seventh inning. I didn’t know he had it in him. Luis Rengifo got him over to third with a groundout to first. Tim Herrin came in to replace Matt Festa on the mound. He threw a pitch ruled a passed ball to score Scott Kingery. 2-0 Angels.

Nolan Schanuel singled and Taylor Ward walked. Jorge Soler singled to center to score Schanuel. 3-0 Angels.

Mike Trout got his second StrikeTroutTM of the game to end the inning. Robert Stephenson came in to pitch in the bottom of the seventh. On his third pitch he injured himself; apparently on the biceps. Buggerall!

Now Detmers came in to pitch. He retired three men in order. On to the Eighth!

Jakob Junis came in to pitch and Logan O’Hoppe smoked an infield hit with about a 55 MPH exit velocity. Jo Adell doubled and Scott Kingery walked. All right. I know where Kingery was during the Yankees games, but where were these other guys? Do we have pod people (I’m sorry. I think they prefer the term “humanity challenged”) doing the home games? Rengifo and Neto struck out. Nolan Schanuel grounded out. Ryan Zeferjahn came in to pitch. The Guardians had a couple of LOBsters but did not score. Thank you Zeferjahn.

Taylor Ward struck out to lead off the ninth inning. Jorge Soler then homered to make it 4-0 Angels. Dude! Sweet!

After Soler, there was no further scoring by the Angels. Kenley Jansen walked Carlos Santana but Jansen got the next two outs before walking Bo Naylor. Just trying to make it interesting I guess. Nolan Jones singled to score Carlos Santana who had advanced a couple of bases on defensive indifference. 4-1 Angels. That was it. The Angels won this one 4-1. Soriano had a pretty good game.

Get him……apparently this blog loves guys who can be Jack Of All Trades and master of none. #1 overall pick in 2022 draft along with Zach Neto. Can play the infield and outfield just not as good as Zach Neto or Aaron Judge.

Road to Omaha – Day 2

It was a solid Friday for the state of Arizona. The state of Oregon? Not so much. (ouch)

Jamie Arnold pitching tonight – he might have more starts for the Angels the remainder of the year than the Seminoles.

I wish I was at Jackie Robinson Stadium today – go Devils!

I also noticed that when I wear dark colored shirts they’re undefeated 🤣🤣. WOW 😮!!!

when I eat some Jack Tacos that day, the Angels are 2,211 – 2,009.

(I just had a few, so we are in decent shape today.)

They got their weekly win out of the way, and Stevenson /Stephenson can take his spot back on the still warm Lazy Boy recliner next to a certain 3rd baseman who name I shall not write.

I hope Stephenson isn’t badly hurt. They need a guy with his skills with Joyce out.

It was nice to see a win at least.

3 double plays on defense and a solid rally in the 8th.

The defense held today and have the bats a chance to get a W.

I was pleased Soriano was credible tonight. Not perfect, but we need him to be our number one guy.

I was lucky enough to go last night. Awesome time. The kids were so entertained they barely even sat down. I don’t think there was an empty seat in the whole stadium. Highly recommend.

Dont look now but in his last 8 games Jo Adell is slashing .308/.400/.500 with 3 walks but only 4 strikeouts in 26 at bats.

I feel like after only 1231 major League plate appearances hes finally turned the corner

There was alot to like about Jo’s game last night. I mean, above and beyond the 3-4 with the key RBI in the 2nd inning, his overall approach at the plate was really good. For example, on the RBI single to right he didn’t try to do too much — he utilized the inside out swing (ala Derek Jeter) and took a good fastball and plopped it into right field; just a real beautiful piece of hitting.

During his slumping he as trying to do too much, overswinging etc. Perhaps, dare I say, he learned from that and has decided that it is more important to make contact and get on base, and most importantly DRIVE RUNS IN (even if with just a single) than it is to hit the ball out of the park on rare occasions. This is what Jo needs to do.

That said, other than Adell I wasn’t real impressed with the offense last night; 11, count them 11 LOBsters last night were served up, and the team as a whole was only 2 for 12 in RISP situations. Normally that is not gonna get it done. We were lucky that Soriano pitched the great game he did — he really saved our bacon, cause the offense disappointed in their inability to drive people in.

We have a lot of underperforming hitters versus their career norms. I think somebody needs to own it. I think firing Johnny Washington and his assistants is a good place to start.

Agree. Also, a philosophy which placed more emphasis on contact, getting on base and moving runners would be nice.

With all due respect to my fellow, commenters, I believe that we have a lot of help that the current situation is completely credible. I would like to continue making changes until we start getting it right. It seems like an easy fix to bring in a new hitting coach who hopefully can give our hitters a better approach.

You talking to me about critical thinking skills is pretty funny.

And FYI Adell did have three hits in the Yankees series and they have a good pitching staff. Cowboy also pointed out that Adell is slashing : .308/.400/.500 with 3 walks in his last 26 AB.

Maybe try improving your awareness of what the conversation is and what the facts are before you throw your 2 cents in ?

His best season was in 2024 when he hit .207 with 20 hrs and just 62 rbis.
He’s never going to be what Eppler envisioned him to be, not gonna be the next Ronald Acuna. Right now he’s another Alex Verdugo and Brandon Marsh how long should we stick with this guy (drafted in 2017 that’s almost 10 yrs ago)? SUNK COST AGAIN. We shouldve got Harrison Bader BUT WE DIDN’T……
BTW you were a Washington guy too, along with being a Patrick Sandoval guy the last two yrs when he was one the worst pitchers in MLB.

I was never “a Washington guy” so to speak. I did say I thought he was a clear improvement over Nevin. Of course it would not be hard to be an improvement over Nevin…. Wash is also better than Ausmus as well. You could do worse with a manager, but you could also do better.

As for Adell, who ever compared him to Acuna ? Not me. I like how you pull those things out of your ass.

GMs and POBOs matter way more than a MLB field manager. In fact a pitching coach might actually be more important than a field skipper. Wash led the team to it’s worst won loss record ever so I don’t see the same improvement as you do.

It depends on who the pitching coach is and who the manager is. You would be hard pressed to find a pitching coach more important and impactful than manager Bruce Bochy. But I do think that there are some pitching coaches more important than the manager.

We never got passed Bud Black leaving as pitching almost 20 yrs ago.
Pitching coaches tend to follow field managers just like offensive and defensive coordinators follow HCs in football unless they have a falling out or chance to be the head guy.

It wasn’t just Bud Black though… we had an integrated philosophy at that time, and it included how pitchers approached the game. That was coupled with some really great pitching talent, including Frankie and of course Scot Shields.

That philosophy worked well for several years. But Sosh did not adapt. It got stale after time and well after Black left Scioscia became a dinosaur and stuck in old ways… Arte sticking with his friend Scioscia for waaaay past his expiration date is the main reason this team didn’t win 2 or even 3 World Series titles…

There was a lot of crying about trAdition tonight after Stephenson got hurt but overall I feel like we’ve actually been pretty healthy this year.

Starting pitchers have been unscathed. Position players other than Trout have been fine too plus Moncada but that was expected. And frankly Trout was expected to miss time too.

Joyce getting hurt sucks and losing Crouse in AAA sucks too. But overall it hasn’t been that bad.

When shit like this happens, does the player give a full play by play of exactly how this went down? And does the team ask questions?

This was a road win so does it really count? And that was a lot of hits for four runs. And Stevens is hurt! I blame Arte. This team is a joke. The mollusk rots from the foot up. Let me tell you how shitty Logan O’Hoppe is. I am a sad donkey. Piss is my mouthwash.

After Christian Moore tore up Kansas City’s triple A pitching in the first week of his Salt Lake Bee debut, Reality has definitely set in against the much more polished pitching prospects of the Mariners Affiliate in Tacoma. Through today hes hitting .118 with 2 singles and 8 k’s in 17 at bats. Needless to say let’s keep him down at the farm for alot more seasoning.

In related news David Mershon made his AAA debut last night going 0 for 4 with 4 k’s and a walk. I can see the Angels calling him up any day now to take Kingery’s spot.
