The Kids are Alright Postgame

It is a great night when the Angels get a W and the win is powered by the kids. That was the case tonight.

Jack Kochanwicz had a solid outing on the hill, going 5 and 3rds and only surrendering one run. He wasn’t dominant but it was his best outing in some time.

Jack had an early 2-0 lead to work with thanks to Yoan Moncada driving in Zach Neto on a single and Taylor Ward bringing in Nolan Schanuel on a sacrifice fly in the first inning.

The kids really took over the game in the 4th. Jo Adell absolutely crushed a ball.

Next up, Kyren Paris beat out an infield single and then newcomer Matthew Lugo had the moment of his baseball life.

From that point on the teams would trade runs to end up with a 5-1 score. The Orioles never really threatened for the lead. All in all, this is just what a rebuilding team wants to see. Light up the Halo and get ready for the rubber match tomorrow.

George Klassen was struck by a batted ball and had to leave the game with assistance from the trainer.

I’m sure whatever small chance he had of contributing to the org. development has been derailed for a significant amount of time.

Why we should hire him and kick Perry out TODAY!!!!
He’s a veteran player the total is greater than it’s indivual parts guy.

Who do you think we’re kidding here, we’re never gonna have a great FS again with the old rich guy as owner so this solution is the NEXT BEST THING.

THE OLD RICH GUY DOESN’T CARE ABOUT FARM SYSTEM’s, EXPENSIVE SP’S, DISNEY OWNERSHIP DID AND DOESN’T…the 2021 Giants are the kind of team that he would like because it wasn’t full of expensive stars like the Dodgers, Yankees, Mets, Astros….
Hey that’s all for now!!!

Thinking the Angels may have a problem getting the best out of certain players who may need more coaching than others.

I know it’s early in the season to be seeking comfort on the desperate, dirty streets of minor league baseball… but one must acknowledge what our top two int’l signees from last year are doing in Arizona right now: Alvarez and Lugo, slashing .471/1.088 and .462/1.039 respectively after five games.

Manny’s kid (19-year-old late round draftee last year) is also holding his own. Weird that we got him so late in the draft… you think pedigree alone would “earned” him a Day 2 flier, especially given his signability ($150K).

Perhaps Phineas and Ferb would like to go. Then you’ll get to see Perry.

Nolan’s last 28 PAs
.374 BA
.464 OBP

Adell’s last 14 PAs (all w/ the torpedo bat)
.357 BA
1.00 SLG
3 HRs

Fun with small sample sizes!

Gosh, it would be great if Adell got hot and played his way into being a key part of this team’s future. The outfield is starting to get crowded – Ward, Paris, Adell, Lugo… not to mention Trout and Soler.

Taylor Ward’s play is surely tanking his trade value and he is taking up a spot that should go to a younger player. It might not be the worst time for him to “suffer a hamstring injury.”

What I like about Jo recently is that he seems to have become a little more patient at the plate. This is what we need from him. I’d like to see Kyren take a page out of his book as well…

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves with Lugo. I am happy for the kid getting his first big league hit, but he is a LONG way away from cracking the starting lineup as a regular.

Totally agree about Lugo. We know who Taylor Ward is, and he’s most likely not part of the future. We might as well start figuring out if Lugo can be, and this is the kind of season to do so.

Check this out on Adell:

2020–’23:
619 ABs
35.4% strikeout rate

2024–’25:
561 ABs
27.8% strikeout rate

Adell needs everyday playing time. An interesting note: this 14-AB hot stretch has come with him back in RF. Probably not a coincidence.

As regards Adell, I think with Trout’s latest injury it may be the end of his OF days with the Angels. Which of course means, a full-time DH. That leaves Adell or Soler in RF or perhaps Adell and Paris to battle for CF. I really hope Jo can continue his positive gains and get that BA above .230.

You really can’t have an everyday outfielder who hits sub .220. A good defensive catcher or really good shortstop, yes, but not an outfielder. He has to figure this out or HE is the one who won’t be part of our future. But I am rooting for him.

And for Ward, not sure what you mean. I have made the point several times recently that he has been hitting in really bad luck. To point, his barrel % rate is number 38 in ALL of MLB which is quite good (incidentally Jo is also very good in this metric). But Ward also carries an unfortunate and unlucky BABIP of .177. This is incredibly bad luck. So, in essence people just look at the BA and low OPS for Taylor and then think it tells the whole story. It doesn’t.

I don’t completely disagree with you on Trout but what’s frustrating is that almost all of his injuries have happened while batting or running the bases.

2021 calf strain and 2023 hamate were definitely on offense. This year’s injury too. And most likely the back issues from 2022 were from swinging a bat and not playing outfield.

Switching him to DH would lower some risk but outfield isn’t where he is getting hurt.

I get it, but this recent injury was a foot injury. One would probably rightly assume that his speed and mobility won’t be the same when he hits the field.

He did it planting his foot but I believe we’re talking about Femur and Tibia which is the knee. None the less, the result is the still the same as you said potentially affecting speed and mobility. It’s possible it heals with no impact, but it happened because he is missing cartilage which means he is susceptible to it happening again.

I thought it was a deep, bone bruise on the heel. Was that misdiagnosed ?

That’s what I thought initially as well but I believe it’s because he had cartilage removed and related to his knee surgeries.

Ward put up 7.5 WAR over 2022-24. He’s a fine player having a bad and unlucky start to this year.

He’ll also be a 33 year old FA after the 2026 season. He needs to get hot and traded by the deadline.

BTW-I love all the Devers drama! The owner flies in to be in the meeting when they ask beg re-ask, convince Devers to play first base.

Maybe they brought a grief counselor and a pillow for Devers to yell into.

Such a headcase.

Yes, Devers needs to put the team first.

That said, the Sox screwed up how they handled the Bregman signing and subsequent displacement of Devers. All the drama could have been avoided by better communication

JackFrost

Yeah, I mean, if I were Devers I would have felt disrespected. Just to assume he’d move off his longtime position of 3B without having prepped him was stupid. To use NBA parlance, it was “his team,” and this outsider (Bregman) comes in and he is expected to bend the knee…

Yes, Bregman is better defensively, but it is still about respect. I mean, imagine if the Angels had not been so respectful and careful with how they handled the Trout to RF issue — surely some feathers would have been ruffled. I don’t think the brass in Boston handled it well at all. They are just as much if not more to blame than Devers.

Not necessarily. Look at other sports and see how stars react to being disrespected. I understand that paying that kind of money emboldens the organization, but this is not the 1950’s. The athletes have alot more power and alot more say as to how they are utilized than they used to have. Just look at Trout for instance.

He came up with a clever scam on social media to get people to think he is giving free money away. It is transparent and anyone can see through it… Other people are doing it as well now.

You hire people or get friends to act like strangers or passerby — you then hand them a stack of money (which of course they don’t keep) when they add you on social media. People see this, think you are some sort of modern day Robin Hood, and they add you as well…start following you. You build your social media following and make real dough… Voila’, you become rich !
