Angels at Dodgers Gamethread
Another pitcher…………..Carl’s Jr Western Bacon Ranch Cheeseburger
The Angels and RHP Carl Edwards Jr. have agreed to a minor league deal, sources tell
Edwards, 33, made one MLB appearances with the Padres last year, but pitched to a 3.69 ERA in 31.2 IP with the Nationals in 2023.
Go Kings! Make a run at the cup so some of us have alternate viewing options.
Or I guess we always have Meghan Markle on Netflix
Biggest positive for tonight was Soriano.
2nd was the announcer actually saying the Angels updated Spring Training Facility finally brought them up what the rest of the league already had. Think he’ll be gone by Opening Day.
It feels like we are rooting for the Washington Generals. This team just exist for other teams to beat up on. Like relegate this team to the minors already. Arte doesn’t deserve a team.
Can we just send Fontenelle and Davis and Perdomo on a spaceshit to Mars.
Perdomo pitched well but got screwed by his defense and forgot his PFP training. Davis will not make the team and may not even go to the minors.Considering what Fontenelle went through last year I’m just happy hes playing again and can now go back to Rocket City and continue to develop.
Are your sure your not just a little but hurt because he laid a giant turd against the Doyers ?
I think it is alot more than that Cowboy. His stuff just looks VERY hittable. He is the LAST guy you’d want as a closer right now : 37 yrs old and ready for retirement. If not Joyce as closer we should have kept Charlie Sheen.
I mean, sometimes as a closer you make a pretty good pitch and the batter does a great job of hitting it — that happened to Estevez when he gave up the Grand Slam to Mariners in August 2023 in that series when we were neck and neck with them in the standings …. I mean, if a guy hits your high heat of 97 then you tip your cap.
Kenley doesn’t have near that kind of stuff.
Who missed the last 2 weeks after burying his mom. I looked at his stats for last year including his last 18 appearances where he had a 10.2 K/9, a 0.70 WHIP and a .419 OPS against . He did not perform like a guy who has lost it . So unless he just sat around and ate bon-bons all winter Im not too concerned
Did you guys see Ian Anderson’s crazy stat line for Spring Training so far? 17 IP 6 H 18 BB
All his pitches are 90-91 …. I think my prediction earlier that we get the Kenley implosion year is gonna be right …
Yea this is the most Angels transaction ever. Pay a former superstar way more money than he’s currently worth. Then watch as he loses any motivation to play but since we’re paying him 10 million or whatever a year he’ll still be on the roster in August with a 7+ ERA and we’ll hear things like, he’s working on some things in his bullpens and is about to turn it around.
I’m looking forward to when Joyce strikes out 3 in the 8th on 11 pitches and then Kenley gives up a game winning homer on a 89 mph cutter.
It would have made alot more sense to just give the closer job to Joyce. Zeferjahn and others could rotate the setup…. At least that way we don’t get a ton of late blown leads (and games !) early in the season ….Those types of losses totally kill the morale of the team..
yea makes me wonder why our GM still has a job. Way too much to pay for a reliever when the Angels aren’t going to be competing anyway.
So he shits the bed one time in the spring and you guys are already crying?
Please. I’m sure you’ll still be whining when hes coveted at the trade deadline and we flip for more real prospects.
We will see Cowboy. His stuff is just not good. If he miraculously pitches great I will gladly eat crow. But I don’t see that happening.
When the team finally demotes Kenley and promotes Joyce it will have already cost us 5-6 games in standings due to blown saves.
It would make sense if the season wasn’t 162 games long. NFW Joyce last the whole season as the closer without ending up on the IL.
I think this is a smart move by the Angels
Not logical Cowboy because Joyce would pitch just as many innings (if not more !) as a setup man as he would being closer… Alot of setup guys get 5 outs these days…
No he wouldn’t Frostie. He’ll pitch when hes available and the Angels need to regulate his innings. Now the Angels have 2 pitchers who are capable of closing and they dont have to worry about overtaxing him or are tempted to put him in too many high leverage situations ( which yes studies have shown lead to more arm injuries) . The guy who is going to get taxed way too much is Zeferjahn because the rest of our bullpen is left-handed and a RHP who has never pitched in relief and has reverse splits against right handed batters.
IF the Angels split the closing duties between Joyce and Kenley that would be slightly more palatable. But all the pundits are projecting Joyce as setup. I guess we will see.
Personally, I have always liked early Maddon approach of closer by committee and go with the hot hand …
