LA Angels Tuesday News Crash: Angel Gone

Angel Hernandez claims he will retire.

We had a benches clearing incident between the Brewers and the Red Sox which mostly appears to have been a bunch of guys standing around and hugging one another. Perhaps there were some insults thrown. Bryce Harper got himself ejected from a game and was fined for throwing his helmet. The tarp monster almost claimed another victim.

The Guardians have officially released Ramon Laureano. Meanwhile, the Nationals designated Victor Robles for assignment and the Braves did the same to Joey Wendle. The Marlins designated Eli Villalobos for assignment. The Rockies designated John Curtiss for assignment.

Ronald Acuna Jr. will miss the rest of the 2024 season with a torn ACL. The Astros are calling Christian Javier day to day with forearm discomfort. Shohei Ohtani is playing through a hamstring injury.

Stanks probably lobbying to get in the lineup against the worst-most-friendly home team in MLB. They want to pad their stats.

Please stop comparing us to Baltimore, or even Kansas City. We’re not close to either one. Baltimore is a much better hitting and pitching team and we will not be as good as they are next year either hitting or pitching. Kansas City is a slightly better hitting team than we are, but they are magnitudes better pitching. Baltimore is better than we are at almost every position and KC has two players who are better hitters than our best hitter even though we probably have a better overall line up. The reason that they are winning more is because they have better players.

Baltimore. 115 OPS+/113 ERA+
Kansas City. 103 OPS+/124 ERA+
Angels. 99 OPS+/90ERA+

Well….I just say, let the kids play. Don’t trade any young players at the deadline, grow the young core.

Arte? Are you there?

I agree, I think there are some real players and also some fools gold in the mix. Only real way to know is let them play.

It looks like Adell is getting 500 PAs this season.

Neto, Schanuel, O’Hoppe are also playing a lot. O’Hoppe probably too much.

Moniak isn’t getting enough time. I think he’s the least likely of the bunch to be an MLB regular but he should be given the chance.

I think post trade deadline we won’t have many veterans around.

I had actually just given up on Adell, then he gets his shot and so far has capitalized.

I will have my own Angel Hernandez day, on the day that he is gone. It will be a celebration. Maybe use it as a reminder to see the optician, I’m not sure yet. I need to think this through, but I will think of something to mark this occasion. Of course Buckner and Diaz are thinking:” Shit, now the distraction of Hernandez is gone, people will focus on us!”

Angel Hernandez was the “Ace of Spades” on our most wanted out list. You’re spot on as Buckner and Diaz are next in line. Nothing worse than a crappy umpire who also has rabbit ears.

Country Joe West was the other member of the we are bigger than the game club that has thankfully also been ridden off into the sunset.

Expecting higher priced tickets and more Yankee fans at the game then Angels for the next three. Hoping not another sweep.

The Baltimore series was a great example of how one team doing all the small things better is the difference in tight games. Learning how to win as a team probably requires more continuity of vision and players than the Angels have.

I think your point about the lack of vision (continuity of vision) is the key. I actually think our talent is not too bad … though improving the pitching is a must.

Until MLB Owner’s weed out the uncompetitive, the weak, the greedy, Owners who are destroying the Game, there should never be expansion, never. The health of the game is not as strong as the press wants the public to believe. Oakland/SLC/LV A’s bad ownership, Pittsburg also bad ownership. Angels=bad ownership. White Sox=bad ownership. Boston ditto. Colorado=same.

With MLB teams worth billions and owned by Billionaires, why would taxpayers want to fund stadiums? They might end up with what Miami ended up with.

Free MLB and all levels of professional baseball of the incompetent and selfish and greedy ownership.

MLB needs to make funds from revenue sharing go to player payroll. That would keep the A’s and Pirates owners from habitually pocketing other teams money year after year.

Agreed on the no expansion. There are teams that critically need better owners including three in big time sports markets: Angels, White Sox, Roid Sux.

This pisses me off because it’s so simple. Make revenue sharing go to player salaries. “Poor” teams can basically plan to scout and develop really hard knowing they can likely keep some of those players. I know for a fact that there have been Reds and Pirates players that would have taken an early extension and stayed if it was even close to what they’d make as an FA. A lot of players really like those small markets like Pit and Milwaukee. Not all, but some would stay there if it means giving up 5 million a year…. but not 15.

If teams got revenue sharing and were basically forced to have a 135-150M payroll the game would be VERY different and we’d all have to worry about the Royals and Twins.

I’m calling Larry H. Parker at 1-800-Wha-aaaa. Stop this insanity now, why cut a deal with this fraud of an Umpire so he goes away quietly? Should have been terminated for posing as an arbitrator years ago. Angel Hernandez was the devil in disguise if ever there was one. Best thing for all umpires in the major leagues is to disavow any knowledge for an Umpires Union and start a new one with less power. Start changing out the bottom 20% of MLB Umpires every year. Until then Manfraud will remain clueless about hoe to lead MLB.
