LA Angels Wednesday News Crash: Enough with the Texas Teams!

Good morning Angels fans, sick of Texas yet? Me too! Have some links!

Angels News

Angels lost yesterday despite Ohtani pitching in large part due to only scoring 1 run. That is not ideal. It was Neto’s first, however.

In other news, Chad Wallach is on the IL so, Ohtani had to make due with our backup backup backup backup catcher. Considering he only allowed 3 runs, it could have been worse.

Oh and Jimmy is back! He better be wearing goggles.

Because of the injuries to pitchers including Suarez, Sandy is pitching Sunday now against his former high school teammate. Good thing it isn’t Houston…

With his 502 career K, Ohtani has surpassed Babe Ruth in pitching strikeouts! Dude is doing what everyone said Babe Ruth did even though Ruth had like 1 year where he hit and pitch in the same season.

Around Baseball

Mookie Betts refused to stay at the creepy haunted hotel. He watched too many horror movies.

The A’s may end up in LV after all as there seems to be an agreement with slightly less taxpayer funds. ONLY SLIGHTLY.

Mets vs Phillies in London 2024. Glad it isn’t Angels, that travel cannot be good for your health.

MLB game for Paris 2025. Um, why?

After a ton of fear, Gary Sanchez will be going to the Mets, not Angels. Yay!

Former Angel pitcher Thor hurt his finger. Maybe he should have listened, hypnosis doesn’t work!

Want to read the collective barganing agreement for yourself? Now you can!

Anything I missed? Post below for upvotes!

Is that like double secret probation?

I gotta hand it to several of the posters on here. Neto has really shown a lot of talent and that he belongs in the show. You guys were right calling for him to get his shot.

Go Halos!!

I am still expecting a drop off in Neto’s offense (which hasn’t even been that great. It’s kind of funny how a guy can have an 84 OPS+ but if he’s one of the “cool kids” we all act like it’s 120). Scouting will catch up. That’s fine. What I’m stoked on is how he looked very behind on defense in Spring Training and in about a month he got trained up to the point where he’s a very solid SS. That’s awesome. I know hitting is a different skill set, but his quick adaptation defensively gives me hope that he’ll adjust well offensively too.

During several hypnotherapy sessions over the last few weeks, Syndergaard has worn an eye mask in a dark room while Dodgers mental skills coach Brent Walker has talked to him softly.

Do the Angels have a Mental Skills coach? If they did, reasonably can assume they don’t,
he or she should be fired. Or they should start yelling at them like I do!!!! Maybe a good water boarding will help!!

Impressed with the A’s LV stadium site. Not a bad location at all, right on the Strip is awesome, 100% walkable.

I’m already booking my room for 2027 at the Circus Circus, obviously will be Arte’s hotel of choice.

Speaking of Circus Circus, I walked into that place recently. I haven’t been inside since I was a kid like 40 years ago. I swear NOTHING has changed including the god-awful carpet. I can’t believe that dump is still there considering how valuable the property is.

The FBM keystone of the game for the Angels today is “Not Strong Enough” by boygenius.

The Angels had their ace pitching against a weak sauce Astros lineup and could not pull off a victory. Do you see us getting scraped up off the pavement? Always an Angel, never a god. Always an Angel, Never a God. ALWAYS AN ANGEL NEVER A GOD!

I don’t know why I am the way I am. But maybe it’s all in the delivery. Phoebe, Julien, and Lucy sound happy and accepting of this situation. The Neto home run was fun, right?

We are going to get CRUSHED.

Christian Javier, one of the more talented young arms in baseball ( 3.54 ERA) vs Griffin “in the” Canning (5.31 ERA)… One serves nasty sliders the other serves fat meatballs. Hmmm…. I wonder what will happen ? BTW, vegas odds has the Astros as favorites of (-129).

The Angels will get soundly beat, lose the homestand which was the most important we’ve had in about a decade, and we are going to have to face reality again… while good, this team is not quite good enough…and it mainly comes down to the starting pitching, both Texas and Houston are better.

No, I just get sick of all the pollyannas and rainbow farters predicting sweeps against teams who are better coached, more fundamentally sound and execute better…I am not saying they should predict a loss, but at least stop ignorantly predicting a “sweep” when there is nothing to justify that kind of fantasy…

The truth is hard sometimes and too many people just don’t want to deal with it …

You know, these types :

I think Frost is just on the spectrum and can’t grasp that the 10% of people who call for a sweep in a series sometimes aren’t SERIOUSLY analytically calling for a sweep for realzies. Or that it’s like 1 in 10 people and no one needs saving from them.

Let’s start with all the people who have predicted sweeps recently… I know “tanana” predicted a sweep of the Astros, and somebody else, I think “BannedinLA” predicted a sweep of the Rangers … We’ll start with those guys…

Normally I would include “Grandpa” but in his defense he has not been foolishly predicting sweeps etc. GP has been more reserved. Good on you Grandpa.

I expect us to win because baseball is a crazy game. Also, Javier is no Valdez. A 3.54 ERA doesn’t indicate dominance.

JackFrost

Look at his stats last year. I’ll help; ERA of 2.54 and WHIP of 0.948 !. He knows how to pitch. And while it is true that he has not been as dominant so far in 2023 he’s alot better than the guy we are throwing out there… Again, our starting pitching is suspect. Very suspect. And Canning is one of the guys who is not getting it done.

Eric_in_Portland

I will counter that with Tyler Anderson. 2022, ERA 2.57, WHIP 1.002. Do you feel that Anderson’s next start will be like 2022? or more like his 2023?

The new Hitting Coaches and a philosophy of being aggressive is not a bad idea, except when a pitcher is throwing so many breaking balls so low, it’s time to adjust and pass it on to the hitters. Then the pitcher is forced to adjust and you have a chance to get him off balanced. We gave Valdez one inning where he threw only 7 pitches. Both the player’s and coaches need to learn to adjust. Is adjusting to to play of the game now a lost art?

Nobody asked me , but:

Good morning to all as a cold wave hits us today and did you notice at the game last night that everyone was dressed for warmth? Summer’s not here just yet.

Today we have a get away game as both teams will be on their way. Framer Valdez can’t get outta town fast enough for us. The best take on last night is we weren’t shutout.

Renfroe has a pattern, watch first pitch go by for a strike, second pitch a swing and miss, and Wha-La an 0-2 count.

Last night guys were practicing their golf swings all night long trying to hit those mean off speed sinking pitches. Valdez was on his game. Hey! What about Shohei? Well, if .170 hitter, former Angel as we all are aware, Maldonado doesn’t go deep and no melt down in the fifth, then he was on too.

Today’s a new day and hopefully we can out hit the Asstros today. Thaiss will be back in and I oh so do hope that Neto is leading off.

What’s going on with Rendon? On some plays he looks Brooks and on others he reminds of one time Halo, Escobar. Rendon is hitting clutch so there is that.. Time to move Drury up one notch and drop Renfroe.

Thanks for reading this morning’s diatribe. 🤓

MarineLayer

Rendon is just breaking down physically. The injuries have sapped his power and his throwing arm. He’s just not the $245 million Arturo paid for. He’s not a clean up hitter on a team that thinks it is a contender. I’m not sure who is. I thought it could be Renfroe but he doesn’t seem up for it either. Maybe Hit Trout/Ohtani three and four. Let Rendon draw walks in front of them.

Senator_John_Blutarsky

Trout’s last 15 games of a .727 OPS has come at a really bad time. The 2023 iteration of the Astros is not same talent level of the last few seasons, so I’m not buying into the “aw shucks – let’s move on” milquetoast reaction. The $600 million dollar man should not be happy with giving up 3 earned runs to that team, and our 2-3-4-5 hitters can’t put up a 1-for-15 night. If we a playoff team…and it’s really big “if”, then beating their Ace should be expected.

GrandpaBaseball
Legend

If we are a playoff team, then more than 2 thru 5 hitters need to get fixed, right? Shohei relies on many different pitches with all having to be on so he can be effective. If as I expect, he is dealing with blisters, his breaking-off speed stuff suffers, and he is left with fastballs. If not blisters, then possibly it’s a nail issue, but no matter what it is if continued will make him a 400-million-dollar player. But no matter who is pitching the 5th inning is always a rough inning. What is scary is how many runs we allow with 2 outs.

2023 Mike Trout is analogous to 2023 Astros. I love Mike Trout but we will be seeing more and more of this as he ages.
