The Angels will start the season using a closer by committee approach. Phil Nevin did not slam the door on the possibility that Carlos Estevez might be the closer later in the season. Here is a projection for the AL West. It is cautiously optimistic about the Angels but the Astros are expected to win the division again. At least the Angels have the best designated hitter in the game.
This is a pretty silly ejection of JT Realmuto from a game.
The Brewers signed Luke Voit to a one year deal with a club option. They designated Keston Hiura for assignment. Pirates pitcher JT Brubaker will likely start the season on the injured list due to elbow soreness. The Mets selected Tommy Hunter and Tim Locastro and designated Darin Ruf for assignment. They optioned Tyler Megill. They also released Franchy Cordero and Nomar Mazara.
The Reds selected Derek Law. Forty one year old Adam Wainwright has a groin injury and will be out for several weeks. Luis Severino has a low grade lat injury. He will miss at least one start. The Rangers released catcher Sandy Leon. The Orioles will acquire Danny Coulombe from the Twins on an opt out deal. Orioles right handed rule 5 pick Andrew Politi is designated for assignment. Recently released by the Reds, Chad Pinder will go to the Nationals on a minor league deal. The Tigers traded Carlos Guzman to the Cubs for Zach McKinstry.

Terrible game for the Halos, simply awful.
Canning has a groin issue…
Completely OT, to the editorial staff…

With the thin air in the great Salt Lake, does this mean the organization has already given up on Silseth?
Nope. What it generally means for a developing pitcher is that his actual pitches are all good (sure looked like it in AA) and now he’ll go to AAA to work on sequencing, data use (in theory) and more “brain” stuff.
It’s also where young pitchers learn to rely less on hitters chasing pitches and how to use a defense more instead of trying to K everyone. I think it’s where he belongs. The things that thin air effect aren’t the major concerns there.
Final tune up tonight. This looks like what our opening day lineup will be on Thursday against a LH starter. (except for Ohtani pitching of course) https://twitter.com/EricaLWeston/status/1640815216702394374
I’ll take it…strong like bull.
Let’s give it a go
Closer by committee is fine. It will be interesting to see who gets the first shake. Likely should be Herget but we will see. Please not Estevez. Let him figure things out in the seventh for a bit.
As unconventional as Herget is. Hes still quite effective: https://twitter.com/PitchingNinja/status/1640548204176453634
Love watching him fling it.
ABC…Always Be Closing, with Herget.
Not fine. Loup is poop. Tepera is fried Tempura and Estevez is Emilio, the family underachiever. .
Like in football the saying goes, “If you have two QBs, you actually have none”
If you have 8 closers you actually have none.
As much as I like the improvements to the offense, still have bullpen questions, catching concerns and already health issues……..trAdition
It Emilio was in the Oscar winning film “Men at Work”
But He’ll make you famous
I would think Herget and Quijada are the first closer options. You are naming other guys. No one thinks Tepera is a closer. Only Maddon thought Loup should close sometimes.
not many think Quijada is a closer, either
Quijada = 8th
Herget = 9th
start with that and go from there.
Herget could go wire-to-wire holding down the Closer – i just dont see him making a mess of things.
When you say not many do you mean more than zero?
Emilio Estevez wasn’t in the movie “less than zero”.
Doesn’t matter if Tepera is not a closer. He’ll still be pitching in high leverage situations in the 6th-8th and can easily lose a game for us by shitting the bed. Same goes for Loup.
I know. It’s enough to just make you give up before the season starts and go away… or just go be a Yankees/Dodgers fan.
I actually think they will still trot Estevez out there for the 9th the first time it matters to see what happens.
And Moore is less.
You tell em donkey! Why wait for, you know, games to happen some? That’s for lame people.
Lmao.
Pretty funny coming from you, you know, the guy who is always saying how it is okay to be mediocre.
Napoli….now Stassi….WTH do the Angels do to their catcher’s hips!?
(Mocking the ad nauseum nonsensical posts every time a Halo pitcher gets hurt)
By adding the Lamb we will need a sacrifice off of the 40 man roster . Any candidates in mind? We could put Marte or CRod on the 60 day IL if we don’t think they’ll be healthy for at least 2 mos. This will be a tell tale sign .
Marte. Not really sure why he is on the 40 man now.
Can the team stay healthy? That is the question that keeps resonating with me. Is it possible for the planets to align such that we get to watch Ward, Trout, Ohtani and Rendon in the same lineup for the vast majority of the season?
Will the starting 4 be Ohtani, Sandy, Anderson and Detmers all season? Will their arms stay sound and their bodies remain healthy?
If so, the team has a legitimate shot. at contending this year and maybe even going deep in the playoffs. If not, it will likely be another frustrating season.
Is luck on the Angels side this season?
I’ll hold my breath and watch.
Five planets – Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Uranus and Mars – will line up near the moon tonight.
Five planets – Ward (Mars), Trout (Jupiter – biggest fattest planet) , Ohtani (Mercury), Rendon (Venus)…not ready to assign Uranus, the anus of the solar system. Probably Loup, Thaiss, Phillips.
I’m going with “Due Theory”….it’s our turn. New trAditions.
Ha!
Health. It is pretty much the major issue.
Trout hammered Thor!
Catcher Sandy León all but guaranteed to be Angel…we probably need a catcher, but don’t all released Ranger catchers eventually end up with us?
And all glove, no bat screams Angels… TrAdition
Sorry the Rangers didn’t agree
Well, looks like Randy Rosenberg is jealous that Angel Hernandez has been getting all the press.
looks like spring training has weeded out another bozo – kid is a AAA umpire, and probably just cemented his spot no higher than that.
Realmuto’s first ever ejection.
Of all the guys unlikely to be showing up the ump, it is Realmuto (and it is also hardly ever a catcher – you want calls going your way later in the game, why would you prank the ump there?).
