Reid “No Hitter” Detmers wasn’t his best tonight, but he wasn’t that bad. He gave up 6 runs while pitching into the seventh inning. His biggest mistake was a meatball to Mike Napoli, err Kole Calhoun that was crushed for a two run shot that pushed the score to 4-1 Texas.
The offense simply couldn’t lift Reid up tonight. Rendon knocked Ohtani in with two outs in the first and that’s all the Angels scored. There were some chances in the early innings, but unclutch strikeouts by multiple guys and a GIDP by Suzuki snuffed them out.
Mike Meyers came in and gave up his requisite runs to extend Texas lead to 6-1 after 7. Halloween was left in for the 8th and gave up another run.
One bright spot was the return of Archie Bradley who pitched a clean 9th inning and looked sharp doing it.
The bottom of the 9th saw a mini rally as Walsh and Rendon led off the inning with singles. Walsh came around to score on a Rengifo fielder’s choice to make it 7-2.
The Angels have now lost 4 of their last 5 games against Texas.
