The Angels are heading to Oakland. They apparently got away from the Guardians not a moment too soon. Those guys have a major COVID situation going on. Jake Marisnick will have to get thumb surgery. Oh well. The article mentions that Marisnick has not batted as well as he used to in 2017. As if on cue Jim Crane, who owns the Astros, says the Yankees cheated too.
Joe Maddon listed Anthony Rendon as a switch hitter on the lineup card yesterday. Now if only Thor will throw a no-hitter for us. Are the Angels for real? Just how real are they? They are even pulling for each other. Mike Trout gave a big congratulations to Reid Detmers.
Christian Yelich doesn’t always hit for the cycle, but when he does he does it against the Reds. Oops! The ball stayed fair for Joc Pederson.
Do you think they should build a permanent ball park at the Field of Dreams site?

Angels are now in second place and the Astros have won 10 in a row. I doubt the Angels will accomplish that feat and have to win against last place Oakland. No excuses.
Silseth up this early tells me one thing strait out, Perry is not a cowardly platypus. Also, I get the sense that Joe Maddon’s been made to understand his job’s safe. That’s based on nothing but my little brain’s hiss and spark, but the guy is REALLY open to trying out a lot of stuff for someone who is afraid he’ll not have a contract soon.
Let’s hope not. Call me crazy but maybe — maybe — a team that has underperformed for as long as we have should hold out for more than a shiny record on May 13th to commit to a guy who until 3 weeks ago perhaps looked like part of the problem.
But it would be in line with how impulsive the Angels are. We did pick up Eppler’s option early in the year and fire him at the end of it after all.
Joe can stick around if we make the playoffs. I don’t see how you can reward 3 failed seasons with more rope.
Silseth might turn out great, but….
Why isn’t Diaz starting? I certainly think his performance earned another look.
He’s starting on Saturday afternoon
Thanks
FYI. I think because of the new CBA player option rules the Angels would normally have to wait 15 days until May 21 before they could bring him back up since he was optioned after his last start on May 6. However with the double header, the Angels are allowed to bring him back early for both double header games without penalty. But, short of an injury Diaz will be sent back to the Great Salt Lake sometime after Saturday’s game(s)
Trade Adell to a team that needs a DH RIGHT NOW.
For what ? Some old big league chew and a fungo bat? He/We need to maximize his trade value he needs to work on his defense to have that happen.
Nah. They aren’t trading him till he’s close to being out of options. The only thing he costs us right now is time and frustration. But best outcome wise we get a 15-30M a year outfielder pre-arb out of it if he just learns to be average with the glove. It’s not even a gamble yet unless someone out there wants to trade us an established starter and he’s part of the ask.
140th … what’s with the title (now just the URL) of the thread saying “Agnes?”

Typo.
Are any of our resident “Debbie Downers” from NY? I wondered if one of them might have written it.
https://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/ny-angels-mike-trout-ohtani-great-start-20220511-ilxadfjefvb57oked6zl4q3qse-story.html
I’m offended. Debbie Downer is way too close to Downing.
Should be Team D&G … short for Team Doom & Gloom.
One fellow insists his pessimism is him being pragmatic. Good for him.
Trust me – I’m one of the doom and gloomers also but suddenly find myself being a full-blown Pollyanna (or GPB) when facing the depth of doom & gloom expelled from the orifii of Team D&G.
I never connect that term with you.
The Bio of the author of this Article explains alot: “Matthew Roberson is a senior journalist covering the Mets, Yankees, and other baseball stories for the Daily News. He previously wrote for Lookout Landing, Baseball Prospectus, and FanGraphs. Matthew grew up in Sammamish, Washington, attended the University of San Diego, and wishes baseball took itself less seriously.”
I ignored it for two reasons:
That joke is SO 2004.
Yep, the start of the 2nd paragraph told me the writer is a disgruntled Mariners fan. Dude needs to learn how to be more gruntled.

Joe Maddon can do whatever he wants with lineups and in-game decisions. But as an Angels organization veteran, if he doesn’t connect this cowboy hat wearing goofiness to Gene Autry in some way, he should be fired.
hear hear! Bring back the bank teller!
Thats Mrs Bank Teller to you sir.
Come on, Twins, don’t get swept now!
Are you still angry that Mike Trout took most of a game off last night? Well put down the tube of liquid yogurt, lock the spout on your box of pink wine, clean the mascara off your cheeks and get over it cause Trout wanted that off day.
Are you angry that Taylor Ward also didn’t play last night? Well, ol’ Tay Tay would like to invite you to f*** right off. He hasn’t forgotten about the last five years, he has seen many of your ideas, just doesn’t see you as a real MLB mind, and he feels that you can suck it.
We’re also apparently starting a AA pitcher (Silseth) from last years draft by our moron child GM who did not go to MIT and is a clueless puppet of the Oligarch.
Worst Best Team Evah.
Things have changed around here, we’ve already forgot the last shitty decade +. Exciting Times at CTPG, winning baseball great start to the season, young stud prospects called up from AA to start, because we think he is good, passionate Angel fans willing to glue themselves to something in protest of Soggy Joe’s get away day lineup decisions.
Good times! And yesterday we heard about a possible scheduled 15 round Heavy Weight fight between JackFrost and Grandpabaseball. All to prove which Angel fan has the most grit.
That’s my secret, Cap, i’m always angry.
Dude, you’re suggesting that you are capable of determining what a real MLB mind is?
Based on the quality of your posts, you have as much baseball acumen as a piece of turd on the side of the road.
Oh wow. Sick burn. Not even a full turd? A piece of a turd? And you used terms like “capable of determining” and “acumen”. Good job big guy. So serious. So Olberman. Such a laborious and vascular rebuttal of a vertiginously extempore scribble! A truly heroic defense of the mole hill.
And yes. I do determine who has a real MLB mind, with the help of my pal Taylor Ward, because I am much smarter than you. It’s not even close. Just look how seriously you’re taking this.
Let’s hope for the best. The Astros pummeled the Twins and we are now tied for first place. They have the better percentage because they have played two fewer games and the Angels basically split those two games. Friday is going to be a big deal.
And the Astros are out to the early lead in game 2.
Meh. If we’re really in this thing then we will go back and forth with the Astros all year… and it will be awesome.
Welp. It’s over then. See you guys next year (or tomorrow whichever comes first)
I think tomorrow?
😂
Good idea. No thinking allowed today. Tomorrow we will start thinking again – I think.
Silseth to the rescue, pitching tomorrow
“Rescue”. Let’s see! Excited to see him but AA to MLB less than one year after being drafted is a huge jump
There are recent exceptions. Chris Rodriguez last year who jumped from A ball the year before to start the season in the Angel bullpen comes to mind.
Yes there are always exceptions. C-Rod had been in the minor league system for a while though. C-Rod did make a big jump though unless you count 2020 as a AA/AAA since there were no minor leagues. Not saying Silseth can’t succeed but those jumps are rare for a reason. Dude does have good stuff.
I guess I have to start adding sarcasm to the end of my comments
😂
Only at the end?
Maybe he will be a Cy Rookie like when we face a never before seen pitcher.
I’ll be honest, I’m a little dubious of this. Doesn’t this mean we have to add him to the 40-man? And you can’t take him off again without risking him? Or do I have the rules wrong.
DefinitionThe 40-man roster includes a combination of players on the 26-man roster, the 7-, 10-, and 15-day injured lists, the bereavement/family medical emergency list and the paternity leave list, as well as some Minor Leaguers.
In order for a club to add a player to the 26-man roster, the player must be on the 40-man roster. If a club with a full 40-man roster wishes to promote a Minor League player that is not on the 40-man roster, it must first remove a player from the 40-man roster — either by designating a player’s contract for assignment, trading a player, releasing a player or transferring a player to the 60-day injured list.
So my concern is that do they need to keep him on the 40-man from now on, or risk losing him somehow if they want to take him off.
Looking at our 40 man roster, we have some wiggle room…few guys on it i don’t think we’d be horrified to lose. I’m trusting Perry…..happy to say that.
https://www.mlb.com/angels/roster/40-man
OK, fair enough.
Except we need to keep some room open for when we trade away some prospects for Bogarts next month….
(thinking happy thoughts)
Oh I’m sure I can find multiple viable candidates for jettison off of the 40 man, but I’m just too GA today to do it
I was thinking we need Jazz Chisholm instead (if he can be had).
Is he good defensively? If so, do we already have a nickname for him, Jazz Hands? We should acquire him just for that.
All that Jazz
He’s expensive. Last I checked the trade simulator had him about like Sandoval, who I was not willing to give up for my Perry piece. I had to go for Freddy Galvis.
He would cost Adell and some prospects. But, with the emergence of Ward, there might not be a long term spot for all three of our ‘young’ OF – so it might make sense to stabilize the 2B spot until Jackson/Paris/Vera move up (and in case Fletcher can’t return to form).
I think Fletch just goes to the 60 day.
For Bogarts?
Unless he is replacing a COVID stricken IL player already on the 26 man roster, the Angels would risk subjecting him to waivers if they wanted to remove him from the 40 man at a later date.
I’m not seeing much updated 2022 covid roster rules….maybe Suzuki’s days are numbered? If he’s ready maybe he stays, maybe this is our 2022 K-Rod…need that component for the 2002-2022 WS comparison.
It’s our every 20 year WS Championship
He has MiLB options still.
But will need to stay on the 40 man roster….PTP said F it! I’m showcasing one of my new horses..40 man roster be dammed.
Yes unless he temporarily replaces a newly infected COVID player ( which maybe there is announcement yet to be made?) he has to go one the 40 man roster .
First player from the 2021 draft to make the bigs and he is an 11th rounder. Crazy!
He may be the first but B-b-b-baby, you ain’t seen nothing yet.
I guess it’s a must watch pitching event. Going to get out the cheese and crackers and use the nice charcuterie board.
And open up a good box of wine?
The Angels aren’t even waiting for Saturday’s double header.

Still think yesterdays line-up would have been better suited for tomorrow in Oakland
I’ll bet you Mike Trout preferred to take off Wednesday’s game at the Big A versus tomorrows game at the Oakland Mausoleum. After the incident in Texas, its obvious to me that MNT hates late afternoon games due to the intruding shadows since he dives over the plate and doesn’t pick up the ball well in those conditions. If you recall he got really pissed the other night (The maddest I’ve ever seen him) when his exposed but now padded hand almost get hit on a runaway inside pitch.
So it may not have even been Soggy Joe’s call.
Great point Cowboy. And if you are right (I think there is a good chance you are), then much of the criticism directed at Joe is misguided and ignorant.
Even if you are not right it is still misguided and ignorant, ha ha! 😉
Just read on Rotoworld that Elvis was optioned to AAA. It did not say who took his place on the roster.
There are several factors at play here:
In my opinion, even if we had a more conventional manager, we will just be hurting any time any of Trout, Ohtani, Ward, and Walsh are out of the lineup.
The sin last night was resting Trout while Walsh was fighting a nagging injury. Mike is hot, so just put him in the lineup.
We must add depth, both pitching and hitting. It’s a long season and we’re not going to be able to seriously compete without it. Last night shows you why.
Jo Adell is now 7 for 15 at Salt Lake City. That’s a .467 average with a 1.933 OPS. All 7 of his hits have been for extra bases, 4 doubles and 3 homeruns. He’s also walked more than he’s struck out, 5 walks, 4 Ks.
This is awesome. What I really want is a breakdown of everything he is doing defensively. He’s down there because he literally was the worst defensive outfield in MLB by most statistics.
Yeah, he makes the Angels version of Raul Ibanez look like Mike Trout.
Exactly, what types of jumps is he taking on balls hit. His first 2 steps are killing him and his confidence.
Apparently jumps in the wrong direction.
Oh come on. He’s not that bad.
Second worst, ok.
How many balls have lodged themselves firmly into his mitt?
Rodger?
I think somebody needs to track his games at AAA and document in great detail what happens when he touches the ball defensively……details on everything. Only way he’s getting back up here is his defense becomes almost average.
Yep. Jump, route, decision making are all things that don’t go down as errors. I learned years ago that mental errors are not errors in the scoring book. Can’t rely on fielding percentage
Great. Who are we going to trade him for? There is no room for him.
No. 3 is the great unknown. Does he really have any trade value?
A team like Pittsburgh or Cincy with a longer runway to contention would be interested I’m sure. Bank of new/better coaching fixing the defense and possibly get a stud bat.
He needs like 50 games minimum down there with daily outfield drills before I want to even think about him back up here.
Guy is a freak athlete yet plays worse than Manny Ramirez out there.
Rumors are flying on social media that the Angels may call up Chase Silseth to make his debut tomorrow. Exciting if true!
You might be right
https://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/baseball/news/angels-chase-silseth-could-start-friday-in-oakland/
I’ll alert 2002..
can’t wait for the headshot
He will probably find some guy who he thinks is better than Chase who we could of had. Not sure what goes on in that guy’s head.
The Angels will need to put him on the 40 man roster for this to happen. Seems kind of dubious to make the 2 level jump already.
They can probably just move Fletcher to the 60 day to open a spot.
Sold! But what the hell is a Silseth?and why would anyone want to chase it?
We have got to call him “Revenge of the Silth” or just “Revenge”.
Sith Lord
Isn’t it one of these?
Hopefully he has better control than his cousins the sleestacks. Those mofos could hit crap w/those slingshots.
Marshall, Will and Holley trolled them every episode by walking fast and not running to make their escapes.
Isn’t that Bill Laimbeer? 😂
we do have a double header this weekend
Jhonathan Diaz wants to know what time the party is in Oakland this weekend….what should I tell him?
Look at us…all of this, prime ready for a MLB roster spot talent.
(if the rumor is true) But I must admit, interested to see where we are when the next MiLB rankings come out.
All Hail the King PTP!

This game was managed weirdly and I’m sad we lost but happy we won the series.
Here’s my unsolicited take: Soggy Joe Maddon manages every game weirdly. Unfortunately thats part of the whole package.
Well…at least nobody is getting free rent in your head.
I gotta figure out how to charge more.
Nice post, man! 😀 I agree 100% with you. I wasn’t happy either, but realize that the human elements may have been at play. Trout confirmed it. But we as fans are welcome and ENTITLED to kneejerk to our heart’s content. Fandom comes with its own built-in Bipolar Disorder. #MHawareness
Wait…. I can…. can I?…. yep….
HEY! Hurr derrr dee der bipolar deesaoda! Please durr better!
