Angels Fool Reds, win 7-6

Red v Red again, with the Angels hosting the Reds in the Angels’ last home game for Cactus League play. Reid Detmers had the start on the mound, getting himself ready for a possible spot in the rotation.

Detmers’ Day

It was yet another good offensive day for the Angels, and another iffy day for the pitchers. This team will be fun and frustrating to watch this season.

Recap

1st

Reid Detmers had some trouble with his infield defense, bur got through the first inning without anyone scoring.

After a Trout strikeout, Ohtani tripled!

TRIPLE!

Rendon doubled to give the Angels the 1-0 lead.

Tony 2 bags

Rendon then stole 3rd and scored on a Walsh single. 2-0 Angels.

2nd

Detmers went out there and had a shutdown inning to keep it 2-0.

The Angels scored in the third as Bally Sports had technical issues. David Fletcher’s single was just too awesome to be shown on TV. 3-0 Angels.

3rd

After the TV was fixed, Reid Detmers had the mound for the 3rd, with a 3-0 lead. It didn’t last as a solo shot opened the bottom of the third. It could have one worse, but the Angels keep the lead, now 3-1 after 3.

The Angels were determined to get that run back, so they did with Adell doubling in Rendon and Marsh hitting a 2 run home run! All with 2 outs! 6-1 Angels.

Marsh in here!

4th

It was a bit shaky for Detmers in the 4th, he did get 2 outs before he was pulled with a runner on second for Mike Mayers. That was a mistake on Maddon’s part. Back to back home runs by Mike Mayers meant it was now 6-4 Angels.

Mike Trout had a two out single and left, heading back home as his Cactus League time is over. Ohtani struck out to end the inning. 6-4 Angels after 4.

5th

It was Mike Mayers again in the 5th. He was in a jam, again, but the defense did not help. Somehow, he escaped the inning without any damage.

Jo Adell had a two out single but that was it. Still 6-4 Angels after 5.

6th

Jose Quijada had the 6th and got into a ton of trouble. He loaded the bases, and allowed a run to score. 6-5 Angels.

Stefanic had a one out double but that was it for the 6th. Still 6-5 Angels after 6.

7th

Ryan Tepera came in for the 7th and allowed the tying run. 6-6 Now.

The Angels went down in order after the stretch, Tied at 6 after 7.

8th

Oliver Ortega pitched the 8th and kept it a tied game with a quick 1-2-3 inning.

Rojas singled with two outs and Stefanic walked to put two on, but Guzman grounded out to end the threat. Still tied 6-6 after 8.

9th

Jose Marte pitched the 9th, he allowed a 2 out double, but stranded him. Still tied going into the last frame.

Taylor Ward doubled to lead off the 9th by being aggressive, and scored the winning run with a single by Ryan Aguilar!

Angels beat the Reds 7-6 on a walkoff!

One hell of a backend 5 after Ohtan!ï»ż đŸ˜« ï»żï»ż đŸ’© ï»ż
Reminds me of the first 20 minutes of the WW2 war movie Enemy At The Gates where the lead character (Jude Law…..Vasily Zaitsev as famed Russian WW2 sniper) had to run behind a guy with the gun while he carried the gun guy’s ammo in case he died. BTW he did die as a matter of fact. Bottomline The Oligarch thinks of starting pitchers as low value cannon fodder. If CTPG faithful wants to believe that a healthy Trout, Ohtani and Rendon will be enough to break MLB’s current longest streak of consecutive losing seasons than HAVE AT IT.

Upton DFA. Pretty happy with the youth movement in the OF. Now if Marsh can start hitting some long balls, we just might be in good shape.

we should trade him & Jo Adell to somebody for a (see the Milwaukee Brewers trading for Willie Adames last season) a SS and try to get a legit young star at the most mission critical position in baseball instead of Tommy Edman and Baker Mayfield at SS.
It’s April and still no legit starters after Ohtani or a SS either. First we have a flood, then a earthquake, and then a pandemic…….Good Gawd!

FWIW, the Angels have the best record for spring training, both leagues and also the best run differential

Hi upside, but also high risk, esp injuries/lack of (pitching) durability. Wish we had more quality depth in the system.
