The Angels hosted the Giants and were a generous host, allowing the Giants to win easily. Patrick Sandoval got his chance to get some work in, while Alex Cobb faced his old team. Sandy went 3+ innings allowing 3 runs. Meanwhile the offense went cold after such a great game yesterday.
Recap
1st
Patrick Sandoval had himself a quick 1-2-3 inning to start the game. As the likely number 3 in the rotation, he will be counted on a lot despite his limited experience.
Ohtani walked and made it to second on a Fletcher groundout. He made it to third on a flyout by Rendon. Unfortunately he was stranded as Walsh struck out. Scoreless after 1.
2nd
It was another quick inning for the Sandy Man, looking like he was in mid season form already.
Seemed like Cobb was as well, as the Angels could do nothing against him. Ward grounded out, ditto for Adell, and Marsh struck out. Still scoreless after 2.
3rd
Well, I spoke too soon on Sandy. He allowed a 2 run home run and a triple in back to back at bats. Thankfully that was the only damage. Still, it is now 2-0 Giants.
Kurt Suzuki walked but Rengifo GIDP. Ohtani also walked, but Fletcher grounded into a fielder’s choice. Still 2-0 Giants after 3.
4th
Sandy was pulled after allowing 2 baserunners. AJ Ramos came in and allowed one to score. 3-0 Giants. Sandoval went 3+ innings allowing 3 runs. Not ideal especially after such a good couple of innings.
Rendon struck out to start the 4th. But after Walsh singled, they brought in a new pitcher, former Angel Jose Alvarez. He got Ward to ground into a fielder’s choice that was nearly a GIDP. Jo Adell struck out to end the inning. Still 3-0 Giants after 4.
5th
AJ Ramos went back out there for another inning and after getting the first out, hurt himself and was pulled when facing his second batter. Brian Moran came in to finish the inning.
Marsh singled off the body of the 3rd baseman, injuring him. So now both teams had a player inquired and out of the game. Romine flew out. Rengifo grounded out, and Marsh stole 3rd for Ohtani. Shohei struck out looking to end the inning. Still 3-0 Giants after 5.
6th
Brian Moran went out there for another inning, only allowing a single in an otherwise clean inning.
David Fletcher started off the bottom of the 6th with a double, but was stranded as Rendon, Walsh, and Ward all struck out. Still 3-0 Giants after 6.
7th
Kyle Barraclough had the 7th, as the subs came in to field. He allowed a 2 out double but that was it.
After the stretch, Jo Adell grounded out, Marsh struck out, but Romine walked. Not that it mattered as Rengifo flew out. Still 3-0 Giants after 7.
8th
Zack Weiss had the 8th, and by having it, I mean meatballs. The Giants hit him like it was batting practice, it was actually amazing that only 2 runs were scored. 5-0 Giants.
Velazquez tripled with one out and scored on a Mayfield groundout. Not shut out! 5-1 Giants after 8.
9th
Zac Kristofak finished the game off, with Chad being a Chad and throwing out a runner. But it went more wrong after that as another run scored on a walk and a double with 2 outs. Typical. 6-1 Giants.
Sierra flew out, Dillon Thomas struck out, and Orlando Martinez struck out to quietly end the game.
Angels Lose 6-1.
Cards sign Pujols.
Lololol
You laugh, I cry, every time I think about that bloated contract and how it gave Moreno an excuse to not give Mike Trout the roster help he needed to win. The torch has been passed to Rendon.
I can’t waIt to read what his salary will be
1 year, naturally (I throw the ball to who? Naturally. Ok I throw the ball to Naturally) for $2.5 mil
1 year $2.5
10 year $250,000,000
I hate zeros.
Do we even need to ask who will win the Cy Young? Alex Cobb.
The Giants complete successful reclamation projects. That’s what they do!
In some cases they take guys who are bad and make them good, and in other cases they take guys who are already good and make them great. That is what will happen with Cobb.
