LA Angels Thursday News Crash: Rain Delay

The Angels’ annual Kids Holiday Party went forward last week notwithstanding the lockout.

The Yankees have now finalized their coaching staff.

Elvis Andrus is being talked about as some kind of a throw-in on more complex deals involving the Athletics. He’s nothing special these days, but at least he won’t be as expensive as Carlos Correa.

Player salaries are down a little bit compared to 2019. I guess that’s something else to argue about at the bargaining table.

“Spongeful” must be one of them thar technical baseball terms.

Our old pal Drew Rucinsky remains with the NC Dinos of the KBO. The Dinos also signed outfielder Nick Martini.

Players and team staff are simply not allowed to talk to each other while the lockout drags on.

Catcher Keegan Fish, recently released by the Marlins, has a minor league deal with the White Sox.

The long anticipated lawsuit over minor league contraction is here at last.

The Red Sox added four non-roster invitees to their spring training roster, including Rob Refsnyder, Christin Stewart, Zack Kelly, and Michael Feliz.

Daniel Palka has a minor league deal with the Mets.

I love the great work the Angels do in the community. Arte and the organization have their faults, but not in this area. Arte prioritizes giving back, signs players who do the same, and this team and its players provide a lot of benefit to our community.

They do a lot of work in the community including their multiple trips to CHOC, which really cheers the kids and staff up.

The Owners should not have downsized the minor leagues just for the sake of cutting expenses. Many communities lost not just jobs, but their identities. It was not a huge drain on MLB in supporting those teams and in the long run will hurt MLB, and therefore the owners.

I do hope that the SCOTUS comes down hard on the Owners in regard to the Sherman anti trust act.

The American League West is going to be fun to enjoy in ’22. Angels will finish above .500 for the first time since 2015. Our line-up will only improve after the lockout as it fills out.
Starting staff is looking good on paper. A concern is the “D” looking weak somewhat.

The much-needed rain and snow on the way and a White Christmas could just be coming.
I tested negative for Covid, now that is wonderful news as GrammaBaseball is allowed to come off the list on Christmas Day. Thank goodness for Zoom so we can see and talk to the Kids and Grandkids.

Glad to hear you are negative.

As far as the minors, MLB really overlooked the bigger picture IMO. Take a look at MLB rosters and you find a lot from small town America. Look at fans and you’ll see the same.

I didn’t have an MLB franchise nearby nor did my family have the money to take me to games regularly if we did have one. What I do have are lots of memories of days at Single A baseball with my Grandma and cousins.

Minor League baseball was the best marketing for Major League Baseball possible. And they ripped that away.
