LA Angels Monday News Crash: World Series and Beyond

The last baseball series of the year will begin tomorrow, with a Houston Astros team that perhaps slipped under the radar for the entire season and an Atlanta Braves team that definitely did. Framber Valdez squares off against Charlie Morton in Game 1.

After that, there is likely to be a work stoppage, and there is no guarantee of a 2022 MLB season.

What happens to starters who pitch in relief? This happened a lot this year…

The St. Louis Cardinals have hired a new manager, replacing the fired Mike Shildt.

Meanwhile, Shildt will interview for the San Diego job, one that Mike Scioscia might also be in the mix for.

Being a good baseball team is such a confusing thing. We have an Astros team with a bunch of unheralded young pitchers and then a Braves team that just really knows how to develop pitchers and put together a good lineup. Why is this so hard for the Angels

There are other teams that went the distance one year and then fell back into mediocrity, how have we avoided good performance (even unsustained) for so long?

Oh man…where we the Lakers be with Randle (at the 4), Lonzo (at the 1), Ingrim (at the 3), Thomas Bryant (at the 5), with Clarkson (at the 2). Hart, Mo Wagner and THT off the bench.

There was very little Doyer paraphernalia at the Rams yesterday. Must have gotten tossed in the trash can already.

I just wanted to drop a note and say I miss you all!

For whatever reason, I watched very little baseball last year and virtually none this year…as in I saw the 8th and 9th inning of the NLCS a couple days ago half by chance and that’s it.

We will see what 2022 holds, but regardless I miss you all!

I’ve been saying it all year. 2022 is likely going to be a semi-lost season. The owners are going to lock the players out. Trout has already missed so many games in the prime of his career. This will probably cost him more as well as well as his chance to be among the all-time greats from a statistical standpoint.

The two sides are so angry at each other that 2022 may not happen. But I honestly don’t think they’re that dumb. A lost year with millionaires and billionaires bickering is a terrible optic. My best guess is that we will have ‘spring training’ in May or June and then a 100 game season.

My guess is that we will not see regular season games prior to June. For example, even if a new agreement is reached in May you’d need some sort of “Spring Training” before real games… After the COVID shortened season this simply does not look good.

So no-one is going to start seriously negotiating until April 30?

This winter is going to suck.

I’d bet the farm on a work stoppage. One that could’ve been curtailed by now. But why have constructive conversations in good faith to do what is best for all involved when you can act like petulant a holes.

That sucks. I liked that place. Ran into Lackey and Napoli after a game once. They were meeting up with Washburn when the M’s were in town.

Big bummer. I loved that place when it was across State College. Great hamburgers. After the 2002 WS win in game 7 me and a buddy snuck in there (was reservation only that night) and bought something like 8 bottles of Champagne and turned the bar area into a locker room scene dumping champagne on ourselves and anyone who was willing to play along. We were covered with champagne when we finally got into a cab at around 1am and had the cab go through a Wendy’s drive through for burgers and frostys. Such a great time.

So there is going to be a work stoppage and possibly no baseball in 2022, or an abbreviated season? 2 years to negotiate and hash things out and nothing yet, coming to the finish line. And the offer I read from MLB ownership was a pure bullshit offer, with a lower payroll ceiling before taxes. They will have a 3 to 4 week window to get a deal hammered out, then it is bye, bye regular length season.

I’m a Dusty Baker fan. Seeing him win a ring would not bother me. Unfortunately, I don’t like the team. I want to see a competitive series.

Yes, it would be nice for Dusty but Altuve? Gurriel? Bregman? Maybe when the cheaters are all gone…but not yet.

Naw, ever since Dusty congratulated Russ Ortiz on his “win” in game 6 of ’02 series I can’t respect the dude. Also he let his kids run all over the field which was another slap in the face. And then he took the Astros job.

Let’s go Braves.

The kids running on the field when he was with the Giants was foolish, I did not like it either. The Ortiz thing, whatever. He was not trying to show the Angels up but fans, like you, took it that way. Hell, I am more pissed about Ohtani getting beaned and frigg’n Maddon and the team did not do shit. Baker or Larussa would have.

That one little kid would have gotten creamed if J.T. Snow hadn’t saved his butt. It’s one of my most vivid memories of that series.

I think I remember that. I am a Giants fan and was happy he and his kids left. But he scapegoated with the Red and Nats. Imagine, losing your job when you go 95 and 97 wins, back-to-back, in the only two years with the Nats?

Batting practice was torture… the punks were all in the outfield… they would shag balls … FAKE they were going to throw to kids in the stands and then throw the balls back into the collection bucket behind second base.

NOT ONE BALL WAS GIVEN AWAY by the Giant Brats DURING BP at the World Series. Saw this happen at G1, G6 & G7.

THAT is my most vivid memory of the Giant Brats in that world series. First pitch of Game 1, Spiezio’s 3-run HR, and Erstad collecting the 27th out are the most vivid GOOD memories of that series.

Ah … another vivid memory not seen until I saw the replay on VHS … that same kid was crying his eyes out at the end. Terrible but in hindsight kinda funny. Sorry not sorry. Also I recall seeing Barroid’s earrings flashing in the dark during the same celebration and Micro-Baker’s tears.

One the one hand I think I like Baker. He seems like a cool dude.

On the other hand, every team he’s taken to the Series has been a bunch of douche bag cheaters.

You don’t think Sanders and Santiago were also roided?

then again, I know I’d bet the farm on a few of our guys being juiced, too.

Dude, by that time in that era, Adam Kennedy was probably juiced. Just like I am 100% certain just about every team has used technology to cheat lately. And to continue breaking the hearts and minds of people who need to be engorged with rage over something, most women who wear white at their wedding are full of crap and that relatable politician you voted for doesn’t really want to be your friend.

Re: Kennedy was probably juiced

Salmon was a huge dude in his playing days, so when the juicers were getting outed years ago, I always feared I’d see Salmon’s name on the newest list. He seems like a nice guy who played by the rules, but I was certain Bill Cosby was a good guy too.

I was glad to watch the Braves beat the Doyers. They have not reached the World Series in 22 years. But now I will root for the Astros, who showed they could reach the WS without cheating.

FTFY: Without GETTING CAUGHT cheating.

Did you notice they didn’t have a “dog’s day at the park” at Minute Maid Park (fka Enron Field) this year? Wonder why?

Well, each player has had an auditory frequency range extender implanted into their auditory canal … allows the players to hear up to 30kHz … Instead of banging trash cans, they have a loudspeaker that can emit the 30kHz signal for only the Astros players to hear. The canine audio range extends up to 45kHz thus they were banned from the park this year as they would have given the secret away each time the signal was emitted.
