We need more than a closer though. Mayers needs to be DFA’d. He was good for a couple of months last year but has since turned into a pumpkin.
He’s not terrible. The problem is: we have a shit-ton of mediocre guys in the pen. And our SP can’t get into the 7th (Canning pitched 6 complete today: unheard of!), so we have to keep using this band of Firestarters every.damned.day…and all it takes is one or two to be terrible (and they will be pretty bad) and just about ANY lead is imperiled. Canning may have been slightly gassed when he gave up that jack to make it 9-3.
We could have had a 9-1 lead going into the 7th, and we could have easily ended up LOSING this g-damned game. All it takes is one or two guys who can’t get an out. It was Mayers today, tomorrow it will be someone else. Cishek is due to completely ruin a game. Just watch.
