Angels avoid getting swept, win 6-5

Dylan Bundy was on the mound today as the Angels tried not to get swept vs the A’s. He did not help with that, giving up 4 in not even 3 innings. But the offense and the bullpen did their jobs and the Angels avoided utter humiliation.

Bad Bundy

The first inning went well for Bundy as he went 1-2-3 to start the game. In the home half, a Rendon walk was all that the Angels could muster.

After showing how well Bundy does in the first 3 inning, Dylan decided to mess that up by allowing a leadoff home run. And then a walk. Then another home run. 3-0 A’s. For the Angels, a hit by Churches was all they got.

The 3rd is when it completely fell off the rails. Bundy allowed a leadoff triple, and another 2 hits was enough to end his day. 2 and 1/3 innings. That was it. 4 ER in not even 3 innings. Slegers came in and stopped the bleeding. Not that the offense could do more than a Fletcher walk. 4-0 A’s.

Slegers allowed hits so he was yanked for Cishek, who didn’t allow them somehow and no runs for the A’s this time. The Angels on the other hand did score thanks to a couple of hits and a Walsh groundout. 4-1 A’s.

Cishek had a good 5th inning and the offense was back out there. Angels got 2 on but failed to score.

It was another good inning for Cishek, but he only went 2/3 of one and was pulled for Mayers. It worked as he got the out, but there was so many more outs to go in the game. Jared Walsh hit a home run vs the A’s new pitcher to make it 4-2 A’s.

Mayers muscled through the 7th to keep the A’s at bay. Fletcher got a walk and Upton got a hit, and then Rojas pinch hit a sneaky hit to bring home the 3rd run. A Rendon walk made it bases loaded and Ohtani pinch hit for Lagares. He hit it far and hard but at a fielder, a sac fly, 4-4 ballgame! Churches was up next and he also got a hit to drive in the 5th run!

Brand New Game

With a lead now, Watson came in to replace Mayers. He walked the leadoff batter and then another walk. Then when it looked like he was getting out of it, he throws it past 1B. Tied game. Closer Iglesias came in and a mass panic fell over the crowd. He got a pop up to end the inning somehow, with the game still tied. Oh and Ohtani was now in the outfield. That was the type of game it was.

The bottom of the 8th started great with a Ward walk. A sac bunt by Suzuki and a hit by Fletch made it runners on the corners for Upton. A sac fly scores him, Hot Pocket made it 6-5 Angels!

Last 3 outs are the scariest and with a 1 run lead, closer Iglesias came back out. First out was a fly out. Second out was a strikeout. And the 3rd was also a strikeout! The Angels win!

The Angels are now 20-27 on the year and face Texas next, a Texas team that just swept Houston.
