LA Angels Wednesday News Crash: Hurt Halos

Good morning Angels fans! Hope you are staying safe and are not sick or hurt. Have some links!

Angels News

Angels lost last night to the Royals on a wild pitch, by the Royals. If only it went under Walsh and not off of him

Speaking of what if, what if the team was not injured? Lagares and Stassi are now on the IL. Oh and Upton has a bad back, expect to see him there too. So who replaces these and other injured Halos? Anthony Bemboom, Jon Jay, Jack Mayfield, and Ben Rowen. The entire taxi squad. So many hurt Halos.

Oh yeah, and also, no word yet on Shohei Ohtani’s next start on the mound. As a hitter though, wow he has impressed. Runs fast, and hit the ball far.

Around Baseball

Throwing at a pitcher seems odd right? Well the Cubs did that yesterday. Even the manger said that was a mistake.

Blue Jays OF Teoscar Hernández has COVID. Hope there is not another outbreak.

Royals call up Ervin Santana. Think he pitches today as revenge?

One of the many rules of baseball is that if you throw your glove at a ball and it hits it, it is a ground rule triple. Well someone forgot to tell Jesus Aguilar.

Olympic Baseball qualifiers begin in Florida May 31st. Wonder how much the US will care.

Wanted to see Madanado back with the Angels soon? Well too bad, he got an extension with Houston. Have to wait to 2023 to see him be teammates with his good friend Ohtani again.

Nelson Cruz was sick yesterday, but it was not COVID. Still have to be cautious about that.

Anything I missed? Post below for upvotes.

Let’s keep up this pace. I’ll take 70-40 at the 2/3rds point.

It is so enervating that the Angels have created a situation where John Jay is on the active roster when any of the other options would’ve been superior.

I like your cartoon’s John. They are always fun. They constitute a big part of your distinctive style.

To my understanding teams can only add players from the taxi squad when they are on the road. Hopefully after today Ward replaces Jay. Rengifo probably replaces Mayfield.

Fletcher needs to heat up and Upton avoiding the IL would be huge. Hopefully missing today and having an off day tomorrow will fix him.

Jeff – I was wondering about that. It seems so obvious that Ward and others would be better than the taxi squad the team is currently using. My presumption is that the team wanted those guys playing in the minors and were concerned that being on the taxi squad would mean sitting around (not anticipating all of these injuries). So the team gets through one more game and then makes the necessary moves.

Exactly. Taxi squad guys take part in pregame drills then sit around. For a longtime veteran like Jay or Mayfield that isn’t a bad gig. But you want Ward and Rengifo getting daily reps in.

Turn the page on yesterday, that was nuts. Fluke play away from a tie game. Can’t blame Fletcher there. He obviously got a great read and jump on the ball bouncing off Perez, but poor Walsh was just there. Holland was absolutely gassed at 32 pitches already. Had the wild pitch bounce just gone a couple inches lower, game is tied and Walsh has a great chance to punch in the lead. Oh well.

Yep. That’s the other side of the lucky bounces that went the Angels’ way the first 10 games.
