Dexter Fowler is out for the season with torn ACL

Dexter Fowler has a torn ACL. The knee contusion turned out to be much more serious and that ‘not be out for long’ means 6-9 months. Fowler slid into second base awkwardly during a game against the Blue Jays and while the initial reports were that it was no big deal, it was.

This is not the first time that the Angels have been wrong about the severity of injuries. So much so that it is basically expected at this point. Even though Dexter himself thought it was just a bump and Maddon said it was just sore, we knew better than to assume that was true.

With Fowler done for the season, the roster spot opens up for another outfielder most likely. Expect to see one of Taylor Ward, Scot Schebler, Brandon Marsh, or Jo Adell soon.

Given how our FO *always* understates injuries…

I get it though. It’s really weird how little those catastrophic knee ligament injuries can hurt when they first happen…. then you give it a couple days and it hurts. They feel more strange than painful and I know a few guys who have told me the surgery hurts a lot more than the injury. I bet some guys would love to ignore the injury, trouble is your leg doesn’t work right and the pain sets in pretty quick as the swelling gets bad.

Damn. What a drag for Fowler, who’s a good dude. I suspect this will drive him into retirement. But I hope we don’t see Jay out there.

Right now I’d prefer Walsh play as much as possible at 1st, with either Ward or Schebler in RF.

That being said, my dream – which I don’t think will happen – is that Adell comes up and quickly becomes everything we’d hoped he could be. I just…don’t…see it. Hope I’m wrong!

Same ole Angels.
1. It was just a knee contusion. He hopes to play in a few days.
2. Off to the 10 day IL
3. Torn ACL. Out for season!
Feel bad for the dude.

But other than 24 to 36 hours of misreporting and confusion, who gives a shit? I know that most of us Angel fans feel butt hurt about being mislead, but The Angels made timely roster moves before the next game that did not lead to any delays in their roster construction or Fowler’s prognosis.

Now Tony Two Bags’ testicles are another matter that could have a lingering negative effect on our season and concern me way way more.

Just means you can’t trust anything they say about injuries which is a bummer.

See you at the ring ceremony next April, Dexter!

Still don’t understand why he didn’t attempt to slide there. Did he ever comment on the play? Stupid, stupid, stupid potential career ending injury given his age.

The broadcast mentioned that it looked like Bichette was going to go to 1B but with the slight bobble went to 2nd right when Fowler got there. He was caught in limbo.

When you think Dexter will be replaced by Schebler or Ward and you realize Jon Jay is still in the organization.

Buttercup in the making!

You never want to see someone’s career end that way, but that could be it.
I think we’re going to get Jon Jay or Schebler. Madden wants that old vet guy in the team, but Perry wants the lefty bat. Walsh will get time in RF also, so this means more Pujols. Ward could be a Rojas replacement if he doesn’t start hitting.

I’d give Marsh the shot over Adell but they haven’t even played since Spring. I’d wait on Marsh until July and Adell until September.

I don’t think either Marsh or Adell will be handed the starting RF job at this point. Hopefully it will be Schebler and not Jay,

I also would not mind Ward but don’t think that is as likely.

He would be my last choice, but at this point my money’s on FOJ Jay

Yeah, with Schebler, Jay and Ward all in line the prospects will get seasoned.

Why would the team even make a statement prior to MRI results?

Idiots.

That’s the most relevant point. Absolutely no reason for them to say anything.

Sad when you get news like this and your first thought is how it actually might improve the team. But that’s the reality of the situation.

Give me Ward as the replacement.

Ouch. But not too shocking–it looked bad. Given his steep decline last couple of years, it’s probably a career ender. Very unfortunate for Fowler, but this seems to be a useful development for roster purposes, at least.

I hate to see an injury correct a bad decision to bring Dexter Fowler in, but pretty much anybody they use to replace him will be an improvement. I was enjoying Schebler this spring. Please no John Jay. I would love to give Brandon Marsh a shot. Or Walsh as others have suggested. Adell needs to stay far away.

Well if the Angels claimed he only had the flu, they’d be scheduling Tommy John surgery next week. TrAdition

Could be a career ended for Dexter, who seems like a great guy.

Ward outplayed him in ST and would be my pick. But a left handed bat from Schebler also slides into tre lineup nicely.

While we (I) poked at holes and needled Dexters game, unfortunate to hear the news, too bad for him. With options such as Ward, Schebler and Jay, Halos won’t feel compelled to call up the rookies. I hope we don’t see those guys until September at the earliest, they have a lot of work to go.

Looks like the shine might be coming of Rojas. It is early but is looking overmatched right now.

Why would they want Jon Jay to join the team? Just brought up by Gubi on pre game show.

Injuries that take a player out for the season just always seem wrong or unfair. In this case at 36 yrs old it will be difficult to return to top form, but here is to wishing you all the best Dexter as we hope you can return ASAP.

Just why do the Angels need to project this Injured List Reality Distortion Field every time somebody gets hurt? This is just weird. Schebler or Ward?

One of those 2, I like the LH bat to balance the lineup. Ward ok too.

To make preparing for the next game a little more difficult for the opposing pitcher, catcher and manager is the only thing I can come up with.

Yeah, but everybody knows the Halo front office is a pack of prevaricating polecats. Cowboy 26 beat me to the Black Knight reference.

Okay, bring up Ward?

Damn you called it yesterday…why does Adell have to be so bad in RF!…😔 could’ve been his chance at redemption

Yep. And by the way, I called it two days ago 😎. When they said his whole leg went numb it was pretty clear to me it wasn’t just a contusion.

Yeah – Adell is just not ready for prime time. I like Ward and think he could contribute.
