Sunday’s game might be the most anticipated matchup of Spring Training for the Angels.
Not only will Shohei Ohtani make his third start on the mound; he’s also leading off at the plate in the game. The Angels will forgo the designated hitter and let Ohtani do the two-way thing on the same day. Just to add to the excitement, the Angels will face off against the San Diego Padres, who will start Blake Snell on the mound and slot Fernando Tatis Jr. second in their lineup.
Enjoy responsibly, Angels fans!
Switching over to the Kings game. Glad we got off the goose egg. Fun day with a lot of optimism for the season.
OLD MAN POO HOLES
Grandpas is now going to miss the early bird special at IHOP today by playing all 9 innings.
Nice comeback for Rodriguez. Good to see him challenged and still strand the runners.
Will he make his ML debut in April of this year?
Maddon is wanting him on the opening day bullpen so maybe.
It’s looking that way.
I don’t love it. The Angels’ system has precious few starter prospects, and they are basically converting the one with the highest ceiling into a setup guy out of need.
Can’t believe I missed this one. So cool they finally tried using him both ways! And it worked! 🔥
Enjoy trying to catch up/decipher the messages up to now
Just booked Marriott Gaslamp for 9/7 and 9/8… let’s make that CtPG meet up at Petco happen
.
Finally get to see Schebler in RF
Man Pujols such a bad read. Go to 1B and let the 2B make a relatively easy play.
at least he actually showed effort though. Fowler jogging after a ball after having extremely bad for on catching it when he’s sucked for awhile now…… Maddon should have pulled him from the field.
Walsh… could’ve been in from the get go. That and Lagares and I think this game would be different. Or so I tell myself
Grandpa with the power slide.
The Angels are really going to struggle with this bullpen.
Really surprised that Minasian did the bare minimum (Claudio, Guerra) with the relief corps after the trade for Iglesias. The Peña injury really exposes how paper thin the pen is.
Wish they did more at this point for sure. That defensive book Maddon was pimping earlier this spring sure doesn’t seem to be working. In RF particularly
Agree with this, been preaching this all spring. Minasian really underperformed here. Really pissed about it to be honest. Nothing more deflating than to see the pen blow up. The good pens (teams) have a solid 7th inning guy, 8th guy bridging to the closer. This pen instills zero fear. Thank god for Raisel or we would really be f€£#*d!
I mean…they had the least effective pen in the AL last season, and Perry felt one decent closer and a LOOGY was enough to transform it?
With Buttrey walking the tightrope last year, that left us to count on Mayers to replicate his performance. Will he? Whose our late inning arms other that those two? Middleton and Robles got sent packing for reasons I was ok with. I would have felt a lot better getting some proven help if/when both of those guys go south.
Raisel was such a solid acquisition, felt like it was going to be the start of something good. Never happened and we got pitch to contact arms, not necessarily the type we need with a tie game, late innings, runner on 3rd with 1 out and and a strikeout is required.
Full Adell there.
Sad to see Fowler decline this way.
That was awful. He made a catch like that on a liner earlier and it just looked off
Fowler doing Adell things
Oh FFS.
A little mustard off the hot dog, Fowler.
Fowler=Adell
Ha
Seeing more hustle from Upton this spring. Good sign?
Yes, but it’s the least he can do.
Nice AB, Rendon.
Where was that in the first Albert?! Jk nice play
It was an excellent outing by Ohtani. The triple in the first AB of inning one was a fluke – arguably a foul ball. The rest was pretty stunning against a tough offense.
Agreed. Really fun day of Sunday SHOtime baseball
I’m optimistic in the season overall. I think there are a good number of players that will have better seasons than they are predicted and they have way more depth than they’ve had in awhile. But I have this bad feeling in my stomach that we’ll all know Fowler is done from day 1 and he’ll be in the Opening Day lineup and get like 200 abs by playing 3 or 4 games a week until like June with a 500 ish OPS before the Angels despite only owing him like a million move on.
But what if he’s a great locker room presence??
Get ready to be Ibanezed Angel fans.
Every time I think I have all the most disliked/underperforming players in our history down, someone on here reminds me of another name I’ve tried to forget.
I’m less worried about this being the case with Fowler with Madden at the helm than I would be if it were Scioscia.
Fowler is a Maddon guy
Good point. I’m hoping maddon isn’t cut from that same cloth (scioscia) on knowing when to call it
