LA Angels Weekend Links

Sorry Ladies and gentlemen, but I just couldn’t find all that many new and interesting links for today. Maybe during today there will be some Black Friday deals in MLB. Link about them in the comments. There will also be at least one “If I Were Perry” article today for your reading enjoyment. I am scrambling to write mine now, but I had also committed to writing up “Top 100 Angel Number 7” for next Tuesday. I figured out my Perry trades which are mostly salary neutral, but I still have to figure out non-tenders and free agent acquisitions. There is a lot of good stuff lined up in the pending articles and basically ready to go. Enjoy your leftover turkey sandwiches!

Angels Related Links

Arte Moreno has pledged $320 Million to develop the ballpark village around Angels Stadium.  Happy Thanksgiving from the Angels.  They should have put Ippei in there. He would look awesome drawn in this style. Albert Pujols has gotten hits off of a lot of guys.  Albert Pujols is, of course, in the best shape of his life.  Lance Lynn anybody?

Non-Angels Links

Randy Arozarena is out of jail.  There is insufficient evidence to charge him with anything.  (He said, she said, and then she said “Never mind.” to the cops.) MLB will probably continue to investigate the matter to see if Arozarena needs to be disciplined.  Tommy Lasorda’s condition is improving, although he remains hospitalized.

There are still plenty of GMs who will take Ohtani, Adell, Detmers, Fletcher and maybe even Rengifo if they don’t believe his 2020 slump. Probably Heaney and Canning as well. And Mayer. If we picked up part of their contract, Rendon or Trout. Plus any number of our prospects could be traded for less glamorous things like back of the rotation arms, back up catchers and middle relievers. If our GM wanted to gut things there are plenty of players he could sell off for a bunch of guys Eppler didn’t draft.

On The Athletic website, Joe Poznanski is starting a series called The Outsiders, the one hundred best players not in the hall of fame. Grich better be up at the top.

Finley, Langston, Campaneris, and Fregosi should all be near the top of that list.

Think Soth has a case for HOF as a manager? I think Hall of Very Good, not HOF.
Poz mentions (Using Baseball Reference’s WAA) if they took out the lowest 100 in the HOF and replaced them with the 100 outsiders, the total boost in aggregate WAA is about 1300 wins. Kick out Rabbit Maranville and put in Mark Langston!!!

I don’t know what the metrics are for evaluating managers. He did win two manager of the year awards, and he presided over the entirety of the Second Golden Age of Angels Baseball. And outside of Angel fan complaining, he was highly respected. I remember when I was a kid being jealous of Dodger fans who had Lasorda as a stabilizing constant while the Angels were trying out new managers every other year.
