LA Angels Tuesday News Crash- Ten Years After

Here are the stories of three of the 26 Major League ball players who reached the coveted ten years after reaching the major leagues milestone this year.

You can join a virtual 5K with the Upton family. Donations go to combat Emanuel Syndrome. Was Jered Weaver a chess player among pitchers?  Could you see Andrelton Simmons as an Oakland Athletic?  They might have to replace Marcus Semien after all.

The Field of Dreams game between the White Sox and the Yankees is now scheduled for August 12, 2021.  Voting continues until about 9 A.M. Pacific Time in round one of the top moments in baseball for 2020.  Here are some buy low candidates for the Angels to grab in free agency.  I wonder if the Angels checked in on Michael Wacha.  He shouldn’t be too expensive. Spencer Patton is a pitcher drawing some interest this off season after a four year stint of playing overseas.  I wonder if the blister problems will persist into 2021 for Jake Odorizzi.  Finally, Blake Snell might be available for the right price.

Sorry, but I just don’t see this team adding any player to help them even sniff a playoff run next year.

Once again Arte fails to offer Charlie Morton a seriously championish contract that makes him want to play on the West Coast because he is not a baseball man.

Arte is Cheap!
Angels FO doesn’t know what they’re doing!
And it’s Eppler fault!

The Angels’ 2014 minor-league-pitcher-of-the-year, Drew Rucinski, was the winning pitcher in today’s Game Six of the Korean Baseball Organization’s championship. He was the starting pitcher, went five innings and gave up 0 runs. He had been the NC Dino’s best pitcher this year, leading the team in innings while posting a 3.05 ERA.

Rucinski also started Game One and went 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run, and he was used as an emergency closer, pitching the final 2.2 innings of Game Four and getting the save.

Great for him and the Dinos. I watched the KBO opener and he was on the hill. Between that and the epic mascot I made the Dinos my KBO team and watched quite a few of their games before MLB started up. I’d just ignore the score and fire up the ESPN+ app in my office.

Great year to move to an office and install a tv, right? Made the move just in time for March Madness and Opening Day.

Morton signing with the Braves for $15 mil for one year shows that after a 2-2 season that his previous track record is more important than 2020.

Braves sign Morton, giving them enviable pitching depth. Wonder if we can buy low on Newcomb or possibly aim higher and pluck an MLB level starter away while helping them replace Ozuna.

Newcomb has minimal value at this stage to where no top 10-15 prospect should be offered. Possible. Perhaps sign Foltynewicz (another ex-Brave) for a bag of peanuts. He has swing and miss stuff, control wanes a bit which gets him in trouble.

Did Sean get hurt or something? Put up solid numbers in 19 and then fell off a cliff last year.

Atlanta has surplus pitching and Minasian will know it well. Interesting to see if anything happens there.

Interesting. I wonder how much the start/stop/start of Spring Training messed with some guys. Pitchers go onto a very regimented program in about January with an expected increase in workload as they approach then enter the season.

But the Braves clearly have more pitchers than spots at the moment.

I don’t know that it is just pitchers. It does go some way to explaining the difficulties not just Teheran (who then never got it together) but also Upton’s slow start.

Turned his career around in the NL, wondering how he would fare coming back. I think he is a candidate to consider. With the Reds playing time win, he won’t be easily acquired.

Blister issues for pitchers at all levels are a tough deal to be dealt. Sometimes it can last a long time. Old School remedy was pickle juice. Theory was brine, very salty water would dry and toughen the skin. Did it work?, yes but rarely.
Say it ain’t so Joe……..I’m calling Larry H. Parker at 1-800- Whaaaaa if Simba signs in our division. I never did understand divorce anyway.
Hey you guys all have a nice day and pick up your last minute Turkey Day stuff as tomorrow will be packed at the grocery store and that means closer to the CV, so stay healthy too.

Simba quitting on the team soured me. He be gone. I was a HUGE Simmons fan up to that point. There are many options out there.

I believe it (leaving the team early) was about not wanting to be injured playing a hand full of games remaining and ruining the potential contract this off season and for that I don’t blame him.

There was also rumor that someone in his family had health issues, and that he wanted to take care of them (and minimize further risk) when it was a foregone conclusion they were out of it.

The team didn’t say boo about it, so if they weren’t sour about it, why should we be?

The team did make a statement which was professional but curt. His statement came off as selfish. My theory was that the realization he was trade bait at the deadline and with no contract discussions in the preseason, just ate him up and he left to spite the team. Angels, while severely bleeding, were not mathematically eliminated when he walked. Bad, no heads up even to his manager. This behavior is not conducive to being paid to put on the Halo uniform again. A bad way to end a great run as an Angel. There is a better chance of Bauer and Tanaka both being signed this offseason by the Angels than Andrelton Simmons.

The price for Snell would hurt, but could you imagine finally adding an ace? Hnnng.

What would people trade for him? It would cost Adell + at the minimum, and I am not so sure I’d trade Adell for 3 years of an underpaid Snell.

If Snell were earning close to the minimum, i.e. just entering arbitration, then absolutely without question. But at 3/39, while that’s definitely a bargain for Snell, I’m not sure I would trade our best trade chip / “prospect” for him.

I’d much prefer an Adell for Manning, Mize, Pleasac, etc type of deal.

Yeah, if Snell is some 5-6 inning pitcher tops, pass. I don’t know the historicals, does he really suck third time through the order? Not a fan of those types..

it’s not that Snell sucks the 3rd time through the order. It’s that close to like EVERY pitcher has his numbers decrease the third time through when compared to a fresh reliever that the batters haven’t seen. Hitters are good at adjusting. They can’t adjust when they see 3 pitchers in 4 ab’s.

Wonder if the trade odds lessened after Morton’s signing w/Braves?
