A few days ago I mentioned that the Angels have a better winning percentage against the Phillies than they do against any other team. That is no longer the case. With two agonizing losses, the all time winning percentage vs the Phillies is now only at 0.593, which is now below the Rockies at 0.63. Will it go down even more? Likely. The Phillies are a playoff team and the Angels haven’t won in a while.
Not to mention that it was Kikuchi on the mound. It isn’t that he is terrible or anything, but with how pathetic this offense has been, you need to be practically perfect. As it was he went 7 innings giving up 2 runs on 6 hits striking out 6 and walking 1. The Angels rotation continues to be the strength of this team.
And the offense continues to be absolutely pathetic. While yesterday was understandable with Sanchez being a top 3 NL Cy Young contender, today was against someone who was somewhat more hittable in Wheeler. And again the Angels bats were pool noodles against him. Why is it that the hitting coach wasn’t fired?
Lowlight Recap
Angels are so bad they can’t even score in a way to get a highlight as Ball gidp to score a run in the first.
Phillies scored in the 3rd to tie it on a home run. Now that is highlight worthy.
As is making a diving catch.
It was a real pitching duel, one that Kikuchi lost as he allowed a 2nd home run in the 7th.
Bullpen did not do well, with Peralta and Fermin being bad in the 8th to load the bases and allow a sac fly.
Marsh drives in one too. 4-1 Phillies.
9th inning came and Farris gives up a run as well. 5-1 Phillies.
Angels tried. Scoring their 2nd run in the 9th.
Even the booth bashed Suzuki’s management. Angels lose again. They got swept. Again. 7 game losing streak. 3rd different 7 game losing streak. First time in 25 years that has happened to the Angels. But hey, while 2001 was bad, 2002 was great. Will 2027 be the light at the end of this tunnel?
Upcoming
