LA Angels Wednesday News Crash: At least we aren’t Texas…

Morning Angels fans, have some links.

Angels News

Who is still on the Spring Training Roster? Yes, it is ANTHONY RENDON. WHY IS HE STILL HERE?!?!?!

The Angels are not available to watch this spring on TV so it is hard to really feel like it is Spring training. Also, the team has not been good, 5-7 so far. But hey, it is a better winning% than in the regular season!

Around Baseball

The Texas Rangers put a Texas Ranger statue outside their stadium. No, not a former player, but a segregationist cop. Yeah, uh, say what you want about Arte, but at least he doesn’t do something like THAT. MLB refuses to comment.

Juricksan Profar got suspended half of last year for PED use. So he doubled down and got suspended AGAIN for all of this season. And people will still defend these cheaters… Like the MLBPA. Although, it is their JOB to do so…

They have another one as well, since Johan Rojas also got caught cheating. He is appealing naturally.

Still have that old SNES baseball game, Ken Griffey Jr’s Winning Run? Well someone found a new cheat for it, allowing you to play AS hidden teams.

ESPN will no longer have Sunday Night Baseball. 30 games this season, but not on Sunday Night. That means they are bringing back David Ross to call them.

But this might be our only change all season. C’mon, Shufflebot needs this. He gets lonely.

There’s a huge difference between recognizing history and celebrating it. The Rangers know exactly what they are doing and who they are tacitly telling to stay away from their stadium.

Plenty of modern day Texas Rangers who have done great things that could have been honored or they could have made a generic guy in a hat with a badge statue.

Instead they chose to honor a man who made the state great in their eyes.

That’s what I don’t get about this…. it’s almost like they were told, “Hey, we have a free statue of a Ranger that nobody wants…” and they jumped at it without looking into it. It’s also just a kind of lame statue. It would make more sense if they got a statue of a tough as nails, live in the wilderness for months, armed to the teeth Ranger on a horse or something… but a statue of a specific guy from a time period that even the Rangers themselves would rather forget? Weird.

But also, fk politics. Let me know if they start refusing to sell tickets to minorities and I’ll give a shit. I bet that statue quietly disappears one night before opening day…

Just put up a statue of Nolan Ryan guys, for gah sake.

I highly, highly doubt the people at the Rangers don’t know who this guy is or why his statue was in a closet.

I still doubt they knew. I never knew about this guy. First I heard about him was here. Now I know other history of the Texas Rangers – but it’s really back to the settler days.

I really don’t think they knew what they were doing. I’m anti-cancel culture – but even I would expect a backlash on this. No way they said, “We don’t care, this is who we are.” I expect it will be taken down quickly.

I loved what Germany did with all their Nazi stuff: they put it in museums, acknowledged the history, and told kids not to repeat it.

That’s what I would do with all the statues of slave owners and people like this. Don’t cancel/erase them or act like you’d automatically somehow be on the right side of history. Just acknowledge this was our past and we need to learn from it.

Putting/keeping them outside courthouses, stadiums, and on military bases screams “we’d like to go back to this” to me.

I love that newfound “he owned slaves” thing we all have to give a shit about now. You mean like EVERYBODY of every race who had the money to own slaves throughout history till about 1800? Yup.

It’s like being pissed at bears for shitting in the woods.

I couldn’t agree more. I went to a museum in SF yesterday and next to a portrait of George Washington was a huge screed about how he owned slaves and what a bad guy he was. I hate slave owning as much as the next guy but give me a freaking break. That is WAY too woke for me. I love George Washington!

Last I checked, the statue they have at the Epicenter is of Jack Benny, which is highly appropriate if you are familiar with his show. Now, that statue I dig.

Unless MLBPA can pull off a miracle, then it’s probably the end of Mr. Profar’s MLB career.

At this point, why read anything about the Angels? Any deep-dive or analysis done by any “experts” is going to say the same thing: the Angels stink.

OK. We get it. Look at ANY predicted number of wins, power rankings, farm system grade, state of the Angels union, we get hammered. Basically, most of the things people like to say here.

If you like to be proven “right” or you like the pain and punishment, go ahead and keep reading the articles about the current state of the team.

It might be more productive to just slam your hand in the car door – over and over.

Or….not really give two shots until Arte sells.

Apathy. That’s where I have landed.

But you say Arte is apathetic – how can you be the same? You care about the team – he doesn’t. You are here commenting and caring. You are not apathetic despite your own admission. I guess you fans who don’t care until Arte sells have to find a new word to describe your feelings about the Angels.

If you like high-ceiling pitching prospects, you’ve come to the right place.

A total of 19 of the Angels’ new Top 30 list are pitchers, and they come with a ton of arm strength and the usual risk associated with those kinds of arms. Over the past few years, the Angels have liked going after high-end high school hurlers later in the Draft, moving their bonus pool around to bring them into the fold. There are four from last year’s class alone — Johnny Slawinski, CJ Gray, Talon Haley and Xavier Mitchell (and that doesn’t count Luke LaCourse, who didn’t quite make the Top 30) — and in 2024, big arms like Trey Gregory-Alford and Dylan Jordan entered the fold.

We all know how young pitching can go, though the Angels are hopeful the addition of Jared Hughes as their new pitching coordinator will help maximize the returns on the risky investments. If things start clicking for the names on this list, we could see this system jump up farm rankings everywhere.

Me, trying to come up with a list of problematic angels the team could enshrine in Anaheim. Because I hate being one-upped by the Rangers. I mean, Lucifer to start?

Eh. Texas Rangers are about as problematic as anything else that’s that old. Hell, I can’t think of anything pre-Cival War that isn’t problematic one way or another. It’s almost like that’s how history works or something. Life’s a trip man. History is endless bitch fuel if I want it to be…. and we are gonna look just as bad in 100 years.

All I know is, if you were in Texas before about 1880 and you weren’t a Comanche and you liked being alive you were in favor of the Texas Rangers even if they were basically semi-cops out of a Mad Max movie.
