In hindsight, the 4 team AL West was both a bad idea and the best time in Angels history. The A’s and 3 expansion teams who were all terrible in one division. At least the Angels made the playoffs a few times. Then, the Angels pretty much dominated the era, being the only one of the 4 to win the World Series in that time frame and it was the best time in Angels history. I miss those days, before the dark times, before the Astros…
Mariners fans don’t like to remember that time. Not that they have been much better in the 5 team era. Almost making the playoffs every year is its own kind of pain, and unlike Angels fans, they do not have a championship to look back on in nostalgic ways. Heh.
Oh right, the game. Well, it was one that mattered much more to the Mariners as they are fighting Houston for the division while trying to stay ahead of the Royals and Rangers while the Angels… yeah. And Soriano was on the bump today. Which one? Bad one. He went 4 innings, giving up 4 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits, striking out 4 and walking 3. He won’t get the Loss but yeesh, he is either on or OFF this year.
Highlighted Recap
Mariners got to an early lead with a 2 run double in the 2nd.
Make that 2, two runs doubles in the 2nd.
However, this was the Mariners, and on cue, they allowed a home run to the rookie Logan Davidson in the 3rd.
Chris Taylor brought in a run in the 4th
And Rengifo brought in another
I smell a collapse… Oh wait no, it is a Web Gem by our CF.
Oh wait, it is a fishy smell. Trout realizes he is in Seattle and finally got Home run 399!
However, no one was able to score after that. A tied game, the most unamerican result there is. Who would fix that then? Well, the Angels brought in Jansen in a non save situation. Yet, somehow, someway, he did not blow it. EXTRA INNINGS TIME!
EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA!
Angels do the classic bunt runner to 3B to start the 10th. Predictable. Lugo struck out. As did Trout. A fat 0 up there.
Stephenson faced the Mariners. He did not blow it. Angels survive to go to the 11th.
Where… Neto bunted. COME ON! He seriously bunted to start the 11th, WHY?! Oh they intentionally walked Moncada and WARD DRIVES IN THE RUN!
After a pop up, Rengifo singled to make the bases loaded. But a fly out ended the inning.
Who was left to save the game for the Angels? Sammy Peralta. He blew it.
Yet somehow gets the next two outs. Onto the 12th!
What do the Angels do for the 12? A BUNT! COME ON! At least it was a bunt single. Runners at 1st and 3rd. Lugo tried to bunt but failed and singled in a run instead.
Trout GIDP though, which is not a 400th home run. Neto IBB-ed to have it 1st and 3rd with 2 outs. Moncada grounded out though and it was only a 1 run lead.
Which is very dicey when the Mariners steal 3rd and a single makes it tied again.
A bunt base hit means that bases loaded no outs. Sac fly. Angels lose. Ffffffffffffffffffff this.
Upcoming
3 more in Seattle, could win the season series still. Just need to win the next 3. Oh right, tomorrow on Apple TV.
