Angels 9 Royals 10 Our Faith in Our Pen 0 Once More
What a goddamn disaster.
I’d love to just talk about the nice things that happened in this game like Mike Trout putting good wood on the baseball again on the way to his first multi-hit game in weeks and Michael Stefanic’s solid first game of 2023 and all of the home runs and Canning’s Quality Start and whatnot. Really, I would.
But any silver linings are faint to the point of being absolutely imperceptible after the Kansas City Royals, owners of the worst record in the game and on their way to a legendary season of badness, put up double digits against the team after fresh callup Kolton Ingram alongside recently stellar Jose Soriano and Chris Devenski just absolutely defecated all over the bed.
The Angels have lost on 10 straight Saturdays, and I am searching for a player or coach or god to blame for this pain I feel, but I mostly blame myself for saying out loud to a coworker today, “I’m really worried because I’m starting to believe again and I know what happens then.”
The Angels hope to take the series from the bottom-dwellers on Sunday. Wouldn’t that be neat?
Why have I not read that Ingram was sent back down? I had nightmares about that meltdown last night.
For whom?
Mike Napoli is 1B coach for Cubs? Wild
Botg: Matt Vas-scurge-in. He was acting like the game was in the bag and talking about going home after a great road trip. Plus he says “repertoire” like a total double. Repetwah.
I don’t know whether this means that Moore is available today.

I was wondering who Nevin was going to skip to have Shohei pitch on Wednesday. It makes sense that Barria is skipped in that he is more used to pitching as middle relievers and starting after as many as 14 days rest.
Moore wont get activated until next week if his bullpen goes well and he doesn’t need a rehab assignment.
You are right. Moore pitched last on May 23. It seems ages ago, but it is not even 4 weeks ago, so it is best not to rush him back.
If Nevin had already made up his mind about skipping Barria’s start, Barria was another option that Nevin could have used in the 10th inning yesterday. Shoulda, coulda, I know.
He probably would have used him in the 10th if it had ever happened.
Not a very happy Father’s Day for former Angels who just pitched against us yesterday.
Happy Fathers
My gift to you. A win today, Anderson goes at least 5 with less than 6 runs allowed, no one gets injured, Trout hits one out, and Nevin buys everyone ice after the game.
Trout vs Greinke: 0.360/0.385/0.800 with 2HR and 9RBI
Renfroe also has great numbers against Greinke
You are absolutely correct. I don’t know how I missed that. Those two names were practically right next to each other in BBRef.
Renfroe vs Greinke: 0.320/0.320/0.800 with 4HR and 7RBI.
After all, they are twins.
That would be special. But Is Ice a delicacy in Kansas City? Maybe the local inventor died and took the recipe with him?
That reminds me when my older son played in 3 day Father’s Day weekend 11-12 year old tournament in Kennewick, WA, with record high temperature of 103F, Kennewick Little League made whopping $2000 by selling shaved ice.
Now that I’ve had a chance to sleep on it, here is the silver lining I hope:
No bullpen or pitcher is perfect, and we’ve managed to get 3 ugly games out of the way this week from our better relievers (Estevez, Devenski, Soriano) and it only cost us one loss. Typical trAdition would have been 3 meltdowns happening in separate 1-run games. And a fourth with Ingram.
With Estevez and Dev you have to think fatigue played a role. Hopefully two off days next week is just what the doctor ordered.
Wasn’t meant to be. We don’t win on Saturday’s. New trAdition
If we win six games a week…we’ll be okay!!
Or Angels hope for rainouts on Saturday to be followed DH on Sunday? Perhaps Arte can hire an experienced Native American to pray/dance specifically for future Saturday games to accomplish this task.
The bullpen cupboard is currently bare at Salt Lake & Madison. I dont see anymore trash bullies helping us in the near future since those that remain are now struggling to find consistency.
The Angels now have a shortage of viable LH relief specialists in the system ( Ky Bush would have been a possibility but he’s been injured) For this reason and the fact the Angels did not want to lose him, Ingram was put on the 40 man roster at the end of last year,
With all of these close games this year (including those caused by the bullpen) we are burning out our bullpen core and the season isn’t even 1/2 over. We need even more than just 5 dependable guys so that they all are ensured sufficient rest. Tucky D, Loup, Ingram either all need to be dependable in any situation or need to be replaced with some one who is. Moore’s return will certainly help and hopefully Joyce’s return will be soon but unless Silseth , Yovan, Torres nd Murphy all of the sudden become reliable, Perry needs to go outside the organization and acquire someone(s).

Little surprised that Thaiss not catching, but Wallach could very well be a surprise player of the game today. Just win today and the series, Angels!
Right handed lineup versus a righty pitcher. Bold choice Phillip.
I know it was only one play, but Ward should have caught that bloop (65.7MPH exit velo) single he chose not to dive for in the bottom of 10th. He had two hits, including a homer, but I would have started Moniak today.
I heard Nevin has a Mohawk today.
🤣
You mean Perry Minasian is knocking on Nevin’s hotel room door with a pink slip, and we are not going to see Bobby V in pregame show? 😱
How would we know?
🤣
Was Trout’s first hit off a fastball too? It’s hard to tell because idk how hard Mayer is throwing at this point
At your service, sir. According to MLB.com, it was 90.2MPH two seamer/sinker, location middle low.
Against Chapman, it was 99.6MPH four seamer, location middle in.
There exists a possibility that we might see Fletch in Anaheim or Denver next week, hmmm.

Okay, let’s go after that third W/C again today.
It’s very unlikely the Reds sweep the cheaters.
MFY and Red Sux play two…2nd game is ESPN.
Meanwhile Bluy Jays are still a half game back.
Silver lining
Dodgers lost to the Giants 15-0.
A loss is a loss but dayum – that was “the Chavez Latrine massacre”
Perhaps not bad as Angels situation, but the injury bug has bitten Doyers significantly. Max Muncy on IL, and Chris Taylor (knee) and David Peralta did not play yesterday and probably will not today, forcing them to play JD Martinez in LF. It is rather unfortunate that Angels did not face Doyers this weekend instead of the lowly Royals.
They do face them. On Tuesday
Moore would have been a nice option today.
Could’ve used early 2000s era Frankie Rodriguez. Would’ve been a nice option
Or early 2000s Troy Percival.
Or a well-rested Carlos Estevez
or Rachel Garcia
or 2002 Brendan Donnelly or 2005 Scot Shields or even 2014 Joe Smith.
No love for Fernando Salas?

They were bound to have a stinker like this. Now if they lose tomorrow, it’s time to trade everyone and start from scratch.
and in “weather”, there’s a strong patch of dissatisfaction hanging over the area which might not clear until Sunday afternoon.
That was a classic Nightmare Angels game. Just…dammit…turn the effing page.
Grit-Stress tests coming up. This team is already on a SpaceX Falcon Heavy Rocket Playoff Launch. See if the second-stage rockets engine separate clean.
1.Bounce back from a disturbing loss today, take the series, finishing a great road trip
2.Newest AAA and AA call ups continue to contribute. Keep the good Juju following (forget today, turn page)
3.Beat the Satanic Doyers
4.No more injuries

Worst team in the league but still an MLB club. Ingram probably feels like hell, but that’s baseball. Even the best have meltdowns. Hope he can return to the minors and effectively improve to be valuable later. I’ll be pleased enough if we keep winning series, I’m not banking on sweeps.
Even a 100 loss team will win 62 games.
Totally agree with you. It just proves how difficult it is to perform at major level. Just watched replay of 7th inning. First hit given up by Ingram could have been caught by Velazquez, and second one also could have been handled by Moniak. If either of them were caught, Ingram would have probably survived the inning. As you mentioned, I hope he continues to work hard in minors and gets another chance to stick at major level.
If Angels win tomorrow, and take series with Rockies and White Sox, then we will have won at least 16 wins for this month, quite doable.
What the crap was that.
^THIS^ Perfect reaction to that complete meltdown.
