The Angels and Padres face each other for the first time with an American Pope. Should this series have a name? Holy War is taken. And they aren’t exactly each other’s rivals, even the Dodgers don’t think about either of them much at all. For now, it will be the Pope Leo the IVX series until I can think of a better name. It has Roman numerals so it must be important.
On the mound for the Angels was Kikuchi. Yusei Kikuchi is the Angels’ big signing this season. The ace of the staff, even if he isn’t actually an ace, he works hard to do his best for the team. He has yet to win. But, 4 quality starts, that’s… Something.
Anyway, perhaps today’s the day. When the Angels go down south to San Diego and go visit the zoo and the animal park and Legoland and where Jessica can watch a good team. Kikuchi faced against these Padres, for the first time in Leo IVX history. How did he do?
Well, he went 6 innings giving up 4 runs(2 earned, all 4 his fault) on 7 hits striking out 4 and walking 2. Will this get him his first win as an Angel? Or his 5th loss? Maybe yet another no decision? He did get some run support this time. But he also botched an easy 3rd out to end the 3rd. Dude.
Wait, Pope Leo the IVX is a White Sox fan? We’ll he’s from the Southside of Chicago so of course he is. But he’s gotta have an opinion on Angels vs Padres right? The Angels helped his team win it all by being fooled by AJ Pierzynski, so that’s something right?
Highlighted Recap
Neto gave the Angels the lead with a 2 run blast in the 2nd!
Kikuchi had his lead. And he immediately blew it. First just 1.
And then 2 more on a really bad error
Seems like the Pope was on the dad’s side and not the Angels. Lugo though, doesn’t care about that and threw out what would have been the 4th run for the Padres
Turns out that not only do the Padres have the Pope on their side, but PEDs too as Tatis Jr uses extra ringworm cream tonight to blast a home run.
Alas, the Pope is just, and used the powers he posses to balance out the bad fielding with Padres bad throw to first to score a run.
The Angels almost tied it up. But Jackson Merrill said no.
And then the Padres scored in the 8th on a sac fly. Ugh.
All hope was lost. The Padres closer was perfect but that is blasphemous. So of course he blows his first save of the season by not being able to throw a strike. HALLELUJAH!
Bases still loaded, the new RP came in and struck out Soler. It was up to Taylor Ward and GRAND SLAM!
Yeah. I’m shocked too. Jansen comes in anyway despite it not being a save situation and the Padres bats shudder in fear. Angels win!
Upcoming
2 more in this holy series and then up the 5 to Dodger Stadium. That’s gonna get ugly.
