USA v. Angels Postgame

Not much happened until Nolan Arenado hit a one out grand slam to make it 4-0 USA in the top of the third inning. Pete Alonso and Kyle Tucker both then singled, whereupon Jacob Webb was brought in to replace Tyler Anderson. Webb got two more outs to end the beatdown. The Angels went three up three down in their half of the third.

Merrill Kelly struck out four Angels in his three innings of work.

The Angels brought in Aaron Loup to pitch the fourth inning. Mike Trout drew a two out walk and was replaced by pinch runner Jordyn Adams. Loup got Paul Goldschmidt to fly out to end the top of the fourth inning. Jordyn Adams stayed in the game as the left fielder.

Ryan Tepera replaced Aaron Loup on the mound for the top of the fifth inning. Bobby Witt Jr. singled and stole second base. Will Smith singled to score another run. 5-0 USA. Other than that, Tepera got three guys out to end the top of the fifth inning. Hunter Renfroe singled and Jake Lamb hit into a force out. Kevin Maitan replaced Lamb as a pinch runner. Logan O’Hoppe struck out. Brett Phillips struck out as well.

Uh Oh! Carlos Estevez came in to pitch the top of the sixth inning. This time he retired the side in order. The Angels also went down in order. Jimmy Herget came in to pitch the top of the seventh inning. A single, a hit by pitch, and a passed ball by Chad Wallach combined to score a run. 6-0 USA. Kenny Rosenberg came in to pitch for the United States and hit Luis Barrera, resulting in an injury time out.

Andrew Wantz came in to pitch the top of the eighth inning. He walked Cedric Mullins to bring up Zach Neto. Chad Wallach dropped a pop foul for an error. Neto then struck out and Mullins was caught stealing second base. Jeff McNeil lined out to Luis Barrera who had stayed in the game after being hit by pitch. Adrian Placencia and Mickey Moniak did single in the bottom of the eighth inning but no runs resulted. Ben Joyce came in to pitch in the ninth. Jordyn Adams struck out and Kyle Schwarber reached on an error by first baseman Taylor Jones. Bobby Witt Jr. and Pete Alonso both made outs to end the top of the ninth inning.

Kevin Padlo drew a one out walk from Cam Vieaux. Luis Barrera popped out to the catcher and Kevin Maitan was at the plate while Padlo advanced to second on defensive indifference. Kevin Maitan then grounded out to end the game. Angels lost 6-0.

I know, and what a pile of scrubs! Though I think that Arenado kid may have a future in this game. One more guy whose headshot we can post since we did not draft him.

For someone so revered for his toughness and gritty dick-swinging, he sure sounds like a whiny little kid who didn’t get a pony.

I still don’t understand why Weaver’s supposed to be tough. This could be because I am flat out forgetting when he pitched with a broken face or something. But if yelling and scowling and getting all red in the face when you don’t get your way equals “tough” then my four year old niece is fking Hugh Glass.

I just don’t remember whose ass Weaver is supposed to have kicked to be crowned “tough”. Sure, he ran his mouth some…. with 24 other large men around to keep him safe, and he pitched, which is his job. But people talk about him like he was Bob Gibson or something and he just wasn’t. It just seems like baseball fans always equate being temperamental with being tough. It doesn’t shock me at all that he’s kind of become our Megan Markel.

Nolan Ryan, Kyle Farnsworth, Sal Bando, Evan Gattis, Billy Martin, Thurman Munson… Jared?

That GIF is an all time great. But it’s a perfect example. I think this GIF is pretty much the “proof” that the guy is tough. His social media sure the hell doesn’t and if I were FO/management I wouldn’t call him either.

He was laughing after the grand slam, so I already know how he’s feeling.
