The Angels flew to Texas to have one last series in the Lone Star State. With both teams now eliminated, it was all for pride at this point, or numbers to get paid in the offseason.
Patrick Sandoval was on the mound for this one, going 5 innings, giving up 2 runs on 3 hits, striking out 7 and walking 4. A messy start, perfect for the team.
The offense came through today, however, getting double digit hits and even a big inning. Duffy went deep. Maybe he is a bit clutch after all. Everyone can hold their heads high, except Stassi, who hit into a triple play.
Highlighted Recap
The Rangers scored first, scoring one in the first.
That was fine though, since the Angels took the lead in the 2nd on a Duffy 2 run blast.
It wasn’t all good for Duffy on the day, however, as he got thrown out at home in the 4th.
The Rangers continued to be faster than the Angels as they scored another run by running fast in the 5th.
Ward drove in Ohtani in the 6th to get the lead back, because unlike Duffy, Ohtani is actually fast.
Ford then drove in Ward with a single.
Adell continued the rally with yet another run.
Yet what anyone will talk about is how Stassi grounded into a triple play.
The bullpen did their job for once, pitching 4 shutout innings fron Wantz, Loup, and Herget.
Angels win 5-2, and are in 3rd place in the AL West.
It’s either they loaded up the base paths with sand or Duffy runs like a catcher.
Starting pitching looks steady coming into 2023. Sandy is really looking good as a #2 next year. Detmers also turning out well. Suarez is who I thought he would be as a back-end starter. Too many lefties though.
An ace pitcher signing would do wonders, but I know at this point that’s a pipe dream.
Who is the FA ace you’d want to sign?
Ventura
Why do I love the wins when it actually hurts the draft picks?
MLB is pathetic in that they more than anyone know that Judge will be more than the American League record holder for most HRs in a season. I guess if they admit it then they will make it look as though they were complicit in trying to cover up there was cheating happening in the game under their noses. Quess what fools, it never was a secret. Bonds is a fraud. Good for Judge, who is really the MLB single season record holder for Homeruns hit in one season by the end of the season.
My inner sad sack is just waiting till we find out Judge is juiced up.
He’s rather huge, but I think he was born that way.
So was Lady Gaga
Funny Stuff Department, we can’t even lose to get in a better draft position, why? Our pitching is too good! 😂
Stassi could make Jeff Mathis look like Ted Williams
More importantly, the Trash Pandas won their first playoff game 9-5. Bush 5 innings, 0 runs. Five players with two hits, including Neto and DiChiara. Tried to attach a photo of the stats, not at all sure how that will work
I only saw the last inning, but damn, that was a pretty double play to end the game.
Texas cornered the market in middle infielders only to arrive in 4th. Although I have to admit, they have some pitching coming up soon, that if those pitchers stay healthy, they could de-throne the Astros. Ugggh.
Yes. It’s like in 2007-9 when their farm was pumping out can’t miss arms like Derek Holland, Neftali Feliz, Eric Hurley, Michael Main, Martin Perez and Matt Harrison. Not too mention Elvis Andrus, Chris Davis, Justin Smoak, Engle Beltre, John Mayberry, Mike Olt and top prospect catcher Taylor Teagarten. Followed closely, of course, by the next Mike Trout, Jurikson Profar.
Doom. It’s always out there…..
You forgot my favorite prospects that Rangers fans have bragged about the last 5 years or so – Joey Gallo, Willie Calhoun and Nomar Mazara.
Texas is a good case study of hoarding highly regarded prospects that didn’t work out. Was it because the prospects were mostly a bust in the first place, or TX just didn’t know to develop them?
I still remember Ranger fans bragging about how Profar was going to unseat Trout soon enough as the best player in baseball. Good times.
Arte. Somehow, it was probably Arte.
two more for the shufflebot! The dream of a …wait, let me check…of a 79 win season lives on!
Angels Win!
