Postgame 05/18/22

Hey Hey Hey!  The Reds Sox beat the Astros!  Let’s win one.

The Angels went three up three down in the first inning against Dane Dunning with a double play by Ohtani.  Brad Miller singled and Corey Seager walked to get two on with one out.  Shohei got a pop out and a strikeout to escape the inning without giving up a run.

Jared Walsh homered to make it 1-0.  Tale of the tape:  402 ft.  A Rendon ground out and a couple of strikeouts ended the Angels half of the second.  The Rangers made three quick outs.

Nobody did anything of note in the third inning.  Mike Trout hit a solo homer in the fourth and Terry Smith used that cringe worthy “it is Trouta here!” line.  Walsh walked but Rendon, Ohtani , and Rengifo made out.  Corey Seager walked and Kole Calhoun was hit by a pitch.  That allowed Jonah Heim to score Seager on a single.  2-1 Angels after four.

Three up three down for the Angels in the fifth.  The Rangers would have done the same had Seager not singled.

Ward singled but Trout Ohtani and Rendon made out to end the Angels half of the sixth.  Kole Calhoun doubled and made it to third on a wild pitch.  Jonah Heim doubled to score him.  2-2 Angels.

In the sixth, the Angels made out, notwithstanding Duffy pinch hitting for Tyler Wade.  Mike Mayers came in to face the Rangers and, of course, gave up the lead by a home run (to Brad Miller).  He then gave up a hit to Semien. Rendon reached and Walsh homered to tie the game in the ninth. Suarez and then Herget gave up amazing amounts of ground. Maddon got himself ejected by CB Bucknor. Raisel came in and got a strikeout to end the ninth. Velasquez started the tenth on second. Ward singled to send him to third. Trout drove him in on a fielder’s choice.

Let’s face it. The Angels got swept by the lowly Rangers 6-5. This blows. I’m done here.

Houston Astros cruise past Texas Rangers 5-1. The same Rangers who SWEPT the Angels who are now 1 1/2 games back.

Mark my words: within 1 month the Angels will be 6-7 games back and fold like a cheap suit. Write it down and post it on the refrigerator next to the molded bread.

Pessimistic?? No…REALISTIC. Because it’s happened way too many times before..

You’re worried about other teams already, when they aren’t even playing the Angels? The Angels are only 40 games in with 122 left. If the Angels can stay relatively healthy, I see them staying in the race as the season winds down. Also, not having Max Stassi available was a key to the Pitchers struggling. They could have used his veteran leadership when things turned south.

Every year it’s the same BS mantra “It’s still early blah blah. And every season they drop like a rock in the standings only to find themselves 6 games back. Watch and see in 1 month. Angels are already 1/4 of the way there. I stand by my prediction. If I’m worng I’ll be the first to admit it and won’t disappear and hide under the bed..

Fair enough, I’m not going anywhere either. So we’ll see exactly how things shake up. Big difference from last year to this year is the Bullpen is way better now than a year ago. They still have some hiccups here and there, but it’s night and day from last year. But I’m still going to remain Optimistic about this team doing great things and giving themselves a chance to make the Playoffs.

Tough series, it’s bound to happen throughout the season. First series lost since the Baltimore series. Whenever you’re going against your own Division, it’s going to be like that sometimes. Division games are always going to be the tougher games to win since they have the book on you and you have the book on them, it can go either way no matter what the records are for either team. Angels have an Off day on Thursday to regroup and get after it against Oakland on Friday. Only 1 game back of Houston, no reason to panic yet.

It wasn’t just a series loss. Angels were SWEPT with their 2 best pitchers Syndergaard and Ohtani..

So… a series loss? Or do we lose .25 more of a game because Ohtani and Thor pitched? Minus another .10 cause Iglesias?

Regardless I see big difference between losing a series and getting swept. With this lineup and pitching staff there was no excuse to lose all 3 games. Zero.

Thor just came back from Tommy John Surgery, he said he felt good, but was still tinkering with his delivery. He wasn’t able to get out of the first inning where sometimes pitchers struggle trying to find what pitches are working for them. It happens, Shohei had that situation happen to him in New York last year and bounced right back. I expect Thor to do the same. In game 2 they just happened to beat the Shift & had that insane inning where the Rangers put up a 7 spot. Just the way the series was going, I felt no lead was safe. It felt like every close call was going the Rangers’ way and it pretty much did. End result the Angels were swept. It won’t be the first time and it won’t be the last. There is still a ton of season left.

Super disappointed they got swept especially with Syndergaard and Ohtani on the mound. 10 runs by the bullpen in 3 games is what did them in. This series looked like a series from last year. I’m hoping they turn it around quick.

Better hope so otherwise the standings can change fast. Astros host a series against Texas so we’ll see how the Rangers are dealt with by a quality team……

We’re on pace to win 97. If you win 97 you lose 65. That’s a lot of nights we’ll be disappointed.

Now lets go 5-0 on the homestand and.

97 wins. Pffttt. LOL. Dream all you want but that ain’t happening. Angels just got SWEPT by a sub .500 team with 0htani on the mound. Just winning the AL West is unlikely because the Angels have trouble with teams in their OWN division..

We are 3-4 against Houston, 3-4 against Texas, 3-1 against Oakland and haven’t played Seattle yet.

So, against the AL West (so far) we are playing .500 ball. If we keep that up (against everyone) we win 85 games.

I think we play better than .500 from here on out, and 90 wins isn’t far fetched at all.

But last year Houston and Oakland owned us – and this year, not so much.

If you were a real fan of the team, and more importantly if your sense of self worth was tied to the team winning or you shitting on them, then you’d realize 60 losses is unacceptable.

Brutal game all around. Ohtani failed to be perfect and he gets another no decision.

The offense just plain struggled unless it was the long ball. The run in the 10th only scored because of a bad throw. It’s not like Trout delivered a big hit, we were lucky yo get that run and the rest of the inning went by with a whimper. 1/7 & 2/9 with RISP the last 2 games. That’s usually par for the course with this team but they weren’t facing some kind of elite staff. A really bad few games by this offense.

Our closer…oh boy. 2 walk offs his last 2 appearances against batters who were doing nothing up to that point. There’s gonna be blown saves but today expect them from good who weren’t 1 for their last 32.

Terrible series filled w/incompetence from all facets. Time to rest the starters, get thrown out arguing a pitch even your announcers thought wasn’t a strike, or walk in a run or whatever needs to be done to snap them out of it.

Yes it’s early, but losing enough of these games against not so good teams adds up and all of a sudden you’re 5 games out of the WC in mid/late September and the best players in baseball aren’t in the playoffs yet again.

Angels did it for quite a few years w/Dick Schofield but the game has changed light years since so completely agree.

The days of it being ok w/having black holes offensively up the middle are long gone

Yeah, but since this a baseball team, and we don’t live in a cartoon, they will sometimes lose to a team they should beat. Especially because we all know we’re not rooting for the 27 Yankees.

I think you’re a little too harsh here.

For one not having either of the catchers he knows is a big deal. It is not a small thing. Yeah, Wallach had the no hitter with Detmers but that was one game and Detmers is pretty much new to the squad anyways so he did not have that chemistry with the catching combo anyways..

If you look at the ENTIRE PITCHING STAFF I think the removal of Stassi and the absence of Suzuki has hurt us. I think the Thor outing on Monday was definitely impacted by that. Likewise Iggy tonight.

Now, that does not excuse us for being swept, but I would hesitate to indict one pitcher (like Raisel) or one player for this terrible result. This was a TEAM failure.

I saw ohtani shake off Wallach SIX TIMES and then he said something (would love to be able to lip read that) just as he was coming set. Didn’t look like good chemistry between Wallach and Ohtani. Check the last batter Ohtani faced to understand this little story.

Why so long though?

They took him away from us. Who decides how long? The new rules supposedly don’t designate how long a player is out.

Supposedly there is not even testing unless a player is “symptomatic.”

Who decides what symptoms qualify? Is it one single MLB doctor? The team physician? Is he/she a specialist in infectious diseases ?

I have a lot of questions about this. It is very suspicious to me…

Most often there are political motivations on both sides with this. In fact, I would venture to say they are more virulent with the politically correct left, at least from what I have witnessed.

Very few seek only the truth without a political motive.
