LA Angels Wednesday News Crash: Delay of Game

Good morning Angels fans, did the groundhog see it’s shadow? I think it will determine if we have 8 more weeks of lockout or not. Anyway, have some links to start your day!

News

The union and the owners met again. It isn’t getting close to a deal still.

Actually, it is worse than that, Passan gets the sense that a delay in the season is inevitable at this point.

Service time manipulation is still trying to be fixed in a convoluted way, but the number of players it will impact has shrunk.

More meetings resume today, with possibly less divisive topics. Like the DH. I personally love the AL/NL split as it is. Makes MLB feel like it has a real reason to have 2 leagues.

People are not happy with Manfred. While it is his job to be the hate sink of all the players and fans to protect the owners, he is the worst out of the 4 major sports in his job. Should Adam Silver give him some pointers on how to be more likable?

Now is the time to visit the Negro League Museum in KC. It is free all February.

Angel Stadium sale is getting the lawsuit hearing on Valentine’s Day. That is quite a mess that Arte and Anaheim have gotten themselves in.

MiLB is really trying to get black fans to love baseball again. It is rather alarming how the sport continues to lose participation. I blame travel ball.

If MLB does expand, how is SLC for a team? The view is spectacular.

Anything I missed? Post below for upvotes!

Travel ball is big because parents see youth sports as an avenue to a college scholarship rather than an activity for their kids.

Travel ball exists in suburbs. That’s why largely black suburbs in Atlanta keep producing baseball talent left and right but inner city black kids and rural white kids are not dotting college or MLB rosters.

Baseball has turned into tennis, hockey, and a host of other sports. It primarily exists outside of school. Therefore it takes time, money, and effort. Two parent suburban households are capable of doing this, single family homes and those in the boondocks not so much.

All of this is true. Also true, if I throw 95 MPH but only play 30 games a year for a couple years at Long Beach Poly I will still get a scholarship… or drafted. One nice thing about baseball, you DON’T have to go to Alabama or Duke to be a high draft pick. You can go to Wake Forest or East Illinois and still get drafted high based on raw talent.

Though, with far less boosterism involved, there aren’t many big time college baseball players mysteriously ending up in tower condo while driving a “friends” BMW while at college.

Baseball’s just not that cool, especially in high school. No one’s getting the girls because they play baseball. The town doesn’t come to a standstill on Tuesday afternoons for the big baseball game, etc. I totally understand why young guys would prefer basketball and football. If African Americans want to play baseball they will, the obstacles just aren’t that steep if they really want it. Most of them just don’t, and that’s OK.

I will probably still be an Angels fan after they move to Nashville and become The Banjos. I own too many hats.

I don’t care if black people don’t play baseball. Unless they want to play baseball and someone is saying they can’t cause they’re black. If you can hit, run a 4/40, and throw a 95 MPH fastball in high school the scouts will find you with or without travel ball. You can also play on little league teams and high school teams without investing thousands into the sport. Catch, hit, run throw. Millions of young people learned how to do it really well without former minor leaguers teaching them how with the help of computers. Just like basketball. Also, there is travel ball in basketball. I don’t see a group of people’s disinterest as an injustice we need to sweat over. I also actually think, as time goes by, a day will come when African Americans see all the advantages to playing baseball over football, etc and it becomes cool again.

Oh. The Winter Olympics. People still do that huh.

SLC will probably have an MLB team a couple expansions from now and all their pitchers will have 5.00+ ERAs.

I don’t care anymore either. We’ll either get another team to move over here or get a expansion team. Even if it is the Pirates, as long as Bob Nutting doesn’t come over here with them.

We’re not going to get an expansion team if Arte moves the Angels out of town. Who the hell would want to play their home games at the second oldest stadium in the American League?

They would if they could inherit that cable TV deal. No excuse if Ar** wanted a new or renovated stadium he had 20yrs to get a deal done and most of the BS wasn’t from the City of Anaheim BTW Dodger Stadium is older
BYE!!!

HELLOOOO??? Anyone home in there?? The Doyers own their own stadium and the surrounding land. This is what Arte is trying to accomplish with the deal he struck with the City. If that deal falls apart there really isn’t any other avenues for him to acquire a new or upgraded stadium in Southland.

You really do have a paper asshole don’t you? https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=paper%20asshole

I agree with you re: DH and travel ball. I think that only-play-one-sport crap also plays a role.
As I said here before, I will be shocked if there are games before June 1st.

Manfred woke up today with his head up his ass – so 12 more weeks of the lockout.

Good morning, aren’t you glad we don’t live on the east coast with their winter weather. The Olympics just don’t feel the same with this dang Covid problems. Beijing games start out today for the longer lasting sports.

2-2-22, only happens once, right?

Don’t hold your breath to see a new Big A anytime soon.

So long Tom Brady, the GOAT of NFL. What a career to be envied by some, celebrated by many and appreciated by all.

Surprise, Owners and players just hang out for the money, lots of laughs. These two don’t get it that they are really hurting the future of MLB with Manfred leading the way.

Do you have a favorite Winter Olympics sport? Downhill skiing, anything on skates, and Curling are mine.

Finally, GO RAMS!!!!!!!

Just a reminder. Today is Taco Two’s Day, even though it’s a Wednesday.
That said, 2/22/22 will be both Taco Tuesday and Taco Two’s Day.
