Taylor Blake Ward talks Prospect Rankings and Draft Class

With minor league ball giving prospects the chance to climb up or fall off rankings list and the MLB draft infusing the franchise with new talent, Taylor Blake Ward updated his Top 30 Angels prospects list this week.

For those of you who don’t follow TBW on twitter, he’s a great resource for all things Angels, particularly the future Angels down on the farm. His Twitter handle is pretty easy to remember, @TaylorBlakeWard and I recommend giving him a follow.

He took some time to catch up with us and go over his new list. Here’s the interview, I hope you enjoy it.

I’ve been waiting for this! It is encouraging to see so many promising Angel MiLBers to keep an eye on. Now more than ever, I am betting on 2023 being the year the Angels get back to into the playoffs.

Also, it was nice to see TBW give an honorable mention at the end of his list to Dave MacKinnon, one of my favorites.

True rankings…….or is it truth hurts?
Probably both……..when was the last time our farm system was ranked that high BTW?

Would love to finish ahead of the Mariners, even if just by a game. With our pitching problems for much of the year, injuries to Trout and Rendon, youngsters occupying much of our roster in August, horrible record against AL West teams……….viewed as building something for next year.

Interesting to see how good Seattle really is, have a feeling they aren’t as good as they’ve shown this year…..unfortunately for us it looks like they have a good young core.

Mariners have $87M payroll and they’re 10 games over .500.
Without signing a expensive hitter like we did for the past decade.
Pujols, Hamilton, Upton, Rendon, and neither has CLEV, TB, OAK, or MILW.

Don’t the Mariners have the longest active streak of not making the playoffs, going on like 20 years or something? I have a feeling they’ll be at home in October again, just like the Halos.

Prospect rankings don’t mean much unless the players come up and play good. At this point I’d take Marsh or Adell over Kelenic, based off what we’ve seen from them this season.

Last year’s ROY Kyle Lewis got hurt.
Mitch Haniger is a good player too. Just as Fletcher and Walsh are for us.

No doubt the Mariners have some potentially good future players and could have a good core for a while in the future. But as of now they are barely better than we are, with fewer injuries, and haven’t sniffed the play offs in decades. So I wouldn’t hold them up as an example. You’re just low IQ f***ing with people because it’s Jer Jer….. who is heading into his 6th season of GMing a team that has yet to make the play offs, a very Billy Eppler adjacent performance.

Also the only MLB franchise never to have made it to World Series. So sad. 😪

Maybe you should switch teams since all you ever do is shit on the one you supposedly root for?

Does that mean you’re 100% behind Arte Moreno, since you’ve only got binary options.

No it means that if all I ever did, every single day, was shit on the team I root for on this blog, I’d probably just stop and find better things to do with my time. I’m not binary, 2002 is, and its 100% negative. Thats all I’m saying.

Don’t sound like a Michael Moore hater from Indiana PLZ.
Why should I be all in on this team given our owner? At what point will he crap all over Perry and say he can’t make a trade that would benefit us. Yeah the fat guy from the Roger And Me movie telling it like it is. Arte isn’t like Steve Schott from the Moneyball movie…..not one bit.

I have no idea what you’re talking about, yet again. I was 8 years old when that movie came out, and believe it or not, documentaries about the economic impact of car manufacturing in the midwest wasn’t at the top of my interests. I was watching Duck Tales and Rescue Rangers around this time. So forgive me if I don’t get the reference.

And I didn’t say you should be all in. I’m asking since you’re all out, every day, why continue on?

This is a non politics blog so I’m saying that you’re acting like one of this guy’s haters ( He is always critical of politicians from especially the Midwest and he’s a Tiger’s fan and usually wears a Tiger’s cap ). All I’m gonna say is he has a YT channel and go see it and you’ll know what I mean. Back to Angels, I think what needs to happen is for Arte to step down or step away and or he needs to be ousted like what Jeanie Buss did to her brother Jim with the Lakers a few years ago. I don’t see this team really getting a lot better going forward until something like that happens. Sometimes a younger family member will change things for the better like Michael Bidwell did when he inherited the Arizona Cardinals from his dad Bill Bidwell. Bottom line Arte has been a bane to this team as owner ever since they lost the 2009 ALCS to the Yankees ( it’s like the lights were shut off on this team ever since ). He got that 2011 FSW cable TV deal which is still a big deal and only maybe the Dodger’s TW deal remains the biggest. Why aren’t we doing a lot better, dude this shouldn’t be happening…….were not the Pittsburgh Pirates who can’t go above probably $120M for crying out loud. I feel the same way about this owner that a Dodger fan did about Frank McCourt did 12 yrs ago.

Until the playoffs started, the 2014 team was on fire.

Cool. Then that’s what we’ll do. Problem solved. Thanks 2002, you’re our hero. Michael Moore huh? Your methods and level of research make a lot more sense now. Keep it agit-prop fellow traveler.

His explanation trying to help me understand his Michael Moore reference only made it make less sense to me. The lack of coherency from him is just mind numbing.

He thinks Arte has a sibling somewhere that co-owns the team and can oust Arte, a la Jeannie and Jim Buss. He thinks Arte should “step down.” That’s not what owners do. Arte could sell the team, but that is extremely unlikely given the windfall Arte is about to reap from developing the surrounding stadium land. At this point he might as well just toss a penny into a fountain and make a wish for Arte to go away. Better odds with that coming to fruition than Arte “stepping down” or his mysterious co-owner sibling pulling a Jeannie Buss.
