Notes: Angels place José Quintana on the IL

The Angels announced Monday morning that they are placing starter José Quintana on the IL.

Quintana has not been very successful this year, and we will see if he still has his rotation spot when he is healthy again.

José Quijada, a solid reliever in his 1.2 innings of work this year, takes Quintana’s spot.

Other Notes

Shohei Ohtani is not in the lineup for Monday’s Memorial Day early game in San Francisco.

Taylor Ward and his elite jump speed will have a tough test in spacious Oracle Park, while hitting David Fletcher ninth continues to make no sense to me.

The Giants are 33-20 and 0.5 games back of first place in the NL West.

I actually think hitting Fletch 9th the last week or so has not been a bad idea…

It takes some pressure off of him and gives us a potentially impactful bat at the bottom of the order. This is not unlike when we had Aybar batting 9th for few seasons…

Also, it seems to have worked as Fletch has hit a bit better over the last few games.

OK. Joe Maddon says shoulder inflammation is what they think, but he is going to get appropriate tests. Cross your fingers.

Fletcher fan here as you all know, but it is time to consider David to return to lead off as he improves to the Fletch we know. He is scalding hot right now and this JUp experiment is getting old. Todays line up is very unexciting but as always prior to the game “We Will Win” predicts GPB with fingers crossed.

Q had potential to be at the top 3 in the rotation, if he has been injured for the first two months it would have worked out better to have come forward earlier than this. Not really hard to fault him as he probably was thinking the problem would go away. Everyone here was hoping he would finally come thru too. Good news is that Sandoval will now get to prove he is the next pitching star to pitch on the Halos.

Fine with me. This team needs to see what Sandoval, Suarez and Canning can do. If they can start pitching well that bodes well for next season. Add a couple of strong starters in the offseason and we can have a pretty decent rotation next year. No more dumpster diving Moreno.

I’ve been checking in on the Bees pretty much nightly and New Q has done well there. Our AAA pitchers have some atrocious ERAs except for Quijada.
