Ty Buttrey, who refused assignment earlier this week, has officially retired, saying that he “lost the drive”.
See his full Instagram post here.
Still remember Jeff’s interview and how much we rapidly got fond of him in 2018.
Would have loved to see him more, but if this is his will, then so be it.
While I was cheering for Ty the baseball player, I did like Ty the human and send my last cheers and best wishes for his next path.
At first I thought this was an april fools joke, until I read the date. Hope nothing but the best for our guy. And maybe reigniting the passion to come back.
reminds me of David Duval, who worked like crazy to get to be the #1 golfer in the world, won the British Open and said to himself “so that’s all it is?” and then lost his drive, no pun intended.
Whatever you needed to motivate yourself worked to get you to where you wanted to be. A journeyman bullpen pitcher. With your talent you could have gone farther as you believe whole heartily in yourself. When I coached I would tell those boys that I believed that they could go as far as they wanted, and you did just that. Good luck in your retirement Ty.
