Ohtani gets a case of the Mondays, Angels Lose 10-2

Shohei Ohtani went full 2 way player today at Dodger Stadium as the Angels lost vs their interleague rival. For a bit anyway. It is a game that doesn’t count, but it still stung as Ohtani got rocked and left with a blister injury.

It did not start well for Ohtani who was wild in the first, loading the bases on 3 walks, and threw a wild pitch to give up the first run of the game. The second was even worse, leaving a hanger up for a 2 run home run, and giving up a solo shot as well, making it 4-0 Dodgers in a flash.

It didn’t end in the 3rd, as he gave up a 3 run home run. Ohtani lasted just 2 and 1/3 innings, giving up 7 runs on 4 hits, 3 of which were home runs, and 3 walks while striking out 3. He didn’t look good at all and left with a blister on his finger.

Meanwhile, the offense was cold. It took until the 4th for a hit, a home run by Phil Gosselin, who hit in the pitcher’s spot. 6 hits total and 1 walk. The two runs were that home run and a groundout RBI by Lagares in the 9th. Overall a bad outing for the offense.

Dodgers piled on as the game went on, hitting a 4th home run, and getting to both Guerra and Claudio. Both of these relievers look to make the team, and neither have looked particularly spectacular. With 3 new relievers acquired just today, competition is fierce.

The Freeway Series wraps up tomorrow, the last game before they count. Opening Day is on the 1st, it is nearly here.

2 great hitters, one good hitter and a crap pitching staff with Mike Mayers……..oh almost forgot and a SS who’s a little better hitter than Luis Rengifo. We’re gonna have to hope the 2012 Houston Astros are in the same division.

They should have been out checking that blister way sooner – especially when he peeled it off. He definitely couldn’t feel location and it was showing in him missing targets badly. I hope this doesn’t set him back a few weeks on the bump.

With the newest editions the Angels are at 41 for the 40 man roster and they still haven’t added Lagares or Rojas. So pick any 3 from the following list for jettison between now and Thursday:
Name Rem Options
Junior Guerra (N/A)
Alex Claudio (N/A)
Matt Thaiss (2)
Jack Mayfield (2)
Jose Suarez (2)
Jose Quijada (1)
Kyle Keller (1)

Operators are standing by..And, no, answers of Dexter Fowler will not be accepted.

He threw some beautiful pitches tonight. Hope the blisters aren’t a nagging issue.

Not too worried long term. Offense stunk the place up, too.

Yea, he had a blister and got shelled. But: I’ve never seen such crazy good stuff from an Angels pitcher since I watched Nolan Ryan have no control and walk a bunch of guys and lose.

Let’s hope the blister thing doesn’t continue to be an issue.

I wonder if Shohei hates the Boomtown Rats. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPtu5V3kHTM
