On the 4th game of Spring Training, Dylan Bundy took the mound for the first time. He pitched well with 1 walk, 1 strikeout, no hits or runs allowed in his two innings. Raisel Iglesias made his debut, and gave up a home run on the second pitch. He did retire the next three batters though.
Mike Mayers went one inning, giving up two hits but did not allow a run to score. Jake Faria pitched 1 and 2/3 innings. He allowed 2 hits and two walks with one strikeout and left up 4-1 in the 6th. Thomas Pannone came in for the one out save and allowed an inherited runner to score.
As for the offense, it is the first game for Anthony Rendon. He went 1-2 with a double. Dexter Fowler had a double. Justin Upton had a hit. Luis Regifo and Kurt Suzuki had 2 out RBI. Jo Adell walked and stole a base.
Shohei Ohtani hit a massive home run in the 5th, driving in 2 and making everyone’s jaw drop. Mike Trout, Albert Pujols, and Jose Iglesias went a combined 0-6. Franklin Barreto had a double and an RBI.
Defensively, Kurt Suzuki impressed by throwing out a baserunner. Jo Adell ran down a fly ball trailing away from him and caught it with ease, overall looking more comfortable out there today.
For a 6 inning game, scoring was limited by opportunity. Reds went up 1-0 in the 3rd. The Angels responded in the 4th with a double by Rendon and a single by Rengifo. Rengifo stole a base and Kurt Suzuki drove him in with a single of his own 2-1 Angels. Shohei Ohtani made everyone feel better by hitting a 2 run home run in the 5th. A run by Texas in the 6th made it a 4-2 Angels final.
Oh yeah, spring training wackiness, a bottom of the 6th happened. Angels scored a run on a GIDP after loading the bases on walks. Franklin Barreto hit a double, driving in another run. 6-2 Angels. The Angels left 5 on base and were 4-12 with RISP.
The Angels are now 2-1-1 this spring even as records mean nothing. Next game is vs Arizona at the same time.
