LA Angels Thursday News Crash: Bat-Only Ohtani

Los Angeles Angels News.

It’s official.  There are no plans for Shohei Ohtani to pitch any more this season. This is due to the grade 1-2 sprain on the flexor pronator mass in his arm we reported earlier this week.  Mike Trout, as one might expect, found it really hard to leave Jessica and Beckham behind to travel to Seattle.  He wishes there was more testing.  I can’t say that I blame him.  As noted yesterday, He homered on his first at bat since returning, so his homesickness does not seem to be affecting his game. At least Mike Trout feels safe and that his teammates are accountable.

Billy Eppler remains busy.  The Angels have placed Cam Bedrosian on the 10 day IL with a right adductor strain.  Meanwhile, Julio Teheran was removed from the 10 day IL (COVID-19 IL) on August 5, 2020.  There’s a new Angels activity available.  It’s a pretty simple crossword but it might keep the kids busy for a few minutes.

News From Around Baseball

Here is some more information on the new rules and the compliance officer.  As expected, the compliance officer is a snitch who will send weekly reports to MLB.  The compliance officer will also nag any players found in public areas of the hotel.  That is one less thing for Joe Maddon to worry about, I suppose. The COVID-19 situation with the Marlins and Cardinals appears to have stabilized for the time being.  In fact, there were no positive tests all day Tuesday among any major league team.

Sean Newcomb is getting another look as a starter for the Braves in light of the Mike Soroka injury and the Mike Foltynewicz implosion.  The Tommy John epidemic continues.  This time it is Tommy Kahnle of the Yankees.  Is a whirlwind spring training to blame? The Yankees have outrighted Chris Iannetta, who cleared waivers.

Here is a video of the four Astros who were hit by pitches last night.  I guess those back leg sliders just get away from you sometimes.  Tuesday night, Melanie Newman became the first female play by play announcer for the Orioles and the fourth woman ever to do play by play announcing for MLB games.  Brodie Van Wagenen’s conflict of interest is showing.

That’s it for today’s Los Angeles Angels News. Stay safe everyone.

Mets situation is just plane old fashioned Stupid. Rich and dumb owners with equally inept kids making the decisions. l don’t know why but i’ve always disliked the Mets after their first 8 seasons. With the yankees it really was Steinbrenner that l disliked and because they could seem to always win by picking up the best with all their money. Years ago on the MLB blogs the NY teams had the rudest people posting. So now a cheater wants in on a MLB team and those who have a say think that’s OK. l forgot to mention he is a liar too.

Upton has a little trade value such as eating 30 mil of the 50 mil. He turned it on here coming from Det. got a big contract to. Years ago Greinke, Bay, along with Crawford and Texas to Atl. to the Halos to the freakin Yankees 1b. (Years ago l wrote that l would never mention his name again all had super last halves of the season and got huge contracts, it does happen). Cutting Albert loose would be a good thing too, he could sign a one day contract and have his day in StL. You guys are aware that this team is so bad that even playing at their best right now is like tanking. Other than Trouty and Fletcher currently along with Goody no one can hit (Some will say Stassi, l am as of now not at the Believers Chapel) starting pitching is sub par and defense is OK along with the “Pen being what it is. So keep throwing our pen out there and we have a chance for the top prize.

Jealous of Nick’s dog van. Thinks they should go on a road trip.

The Angels need Bedrosian back badly. It’s comical to see Maddon’s every move backfiring but can you really blame him when almost every reliever has been a raging tire fire?

I agree – how much can really be put on Maddon? We used to get so mad at Sosh when he left guys in too long. Now we are mad at Maddon for pulling guys too early. It’s the players not the manager. Noe is throwing absolute meatballs. Robles is awful. When we are hoping for Shit-the-Bef back, that’s a scary reality.

With a decent ‘pen the team would be something like 7-5 and everyone would be singing Maddon’s praises.

Yep, after the watching the first couple games I was on board with tanking, and even more so now. I can see a scenario where Eppler goes fishing through the waiver wire, ending up with a revolving door of relievers that achieve the same results.

Good luck to Newcomb! Command is wacky but I still hope he can pan out as a starter.

28-32 record in 2020
No post season yet again, even in this abbreviated 60 game season……not with this pitching staff.

And kinda the worst of both worlds. If we can’t even make a 16-team field, we should be outright tanking. This is the year to do it…you’re already 20% through the season.

that’s generous. At this rate it’ll be 20-40. Sadly I’m not exaggerating.

Max Stassi and Dylan Bundy at this point? Our two best people, who knew?
Stassi’s name is still like the former East Germany Secret Police……Hey I’m a big history buff!
Couldn’t resist…

Can Joe bench Upton for extended periods? That would be an expensive player to keep on the bench. But the guy seems completely lost at the plate. And this short season does not allow for extended slumps.

Maybe the Ohtani situation can be turned into a positive with him DHing every day. Does the forearm injury affect that?

Fletch, Trout, Rendon, Ohtani seems a pretty strong 1-4.

I do wonder if being a two way player (ie not being a pitcher focused full time on recovery) has been interfering with Ohtani’s return to form (not just in physical terms, but in overall sense) as a pitcher.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see them just eat Upton’s contract before 2021 to open the roster spot. His ABs are really, really bad
